    I'm a first year med student and it's so hard for me to find the right studying methods for med school. I'm used to just take handwritten notes from books and presentations but with this huge amount of new informations it takes too much time. Bad for me I can't learn anything from only textbooks I just need to write it by my hand to remember the informations. Feeling really lost amt

      Have you tried Anki cards?
      when I was in med school I had the same problem. I used to type all my notes but that took way too long. Eventually I settled on Anki, using it for spaced repetition. It's working well for me studying for my primaries coming up. I generally do 2 hours of high intensity study to learn new information in the evening where I'll go through things at a high pace and capture what I don't know into anki cards. This is super quick copy paste/screencapture and paste mostly so it basically doesn't add any more time than reading through the info. In the mornings, before work I spend up to an intense hour going through my anki deck. The good thing about this is that when im learning new info in the evening, I don't spent a lot of time rereading the same info because I trust Anki to bring it back to me when I study in the mornings and spaced repetition is better and more efficient in making info stick in your head than spending lots of time memorizing it in one sitting. The reason I don't do new info in the morning and just do anki cards is because my motivation is low and it's hard to push my brain to exert itself on new info - Anki is good fun cos i do see myself improving and starting to remember cards better and better every morning and it's a good start to the day before work (where I'll hopefully be able to utilize what I learned). Good luck :)

    I am a non-trad (read older) premed studying for the MCAT. Didnt have the motivation to study. Looked up "medical school motivation" on RUclips. Found this video. Listened up to 9:15. Made coffee. And now I have all the motivation there could be. Thanks.
    Turns out coffee and listening to a bro talk abt how he worked through difficult times is a killer combo for premed motivation.
    Good luck with your own studies and everything else in life!

    Thank you for this, I start med school next year and I'm trying to figure out how I should start studying when I get there. I feel like the pomodoro method (25 minutes on and 5 minute break and repeat) of studying would also be great if you need to ease into studying when you really are unmotivated

    I would also add, make sure that a person eats well and sleeps well (the full 7-9 hours, if possible). They make REALLY huge differences in motivation and energy, in doing what needs to be done. Of course with the stresses and busyness of life, it's easier said than done, but it is certainly noticeable.
    Best wishes in your pursuit in medicine, I had friends and some family members pursue it, and it's no walk in the park, so you definitely have my respect there.
    ...I gotta ask though, and not being critical, is your beard at your chin starting to gray a bit? I'm seeing a few hairs that are gray.

    • @JaiMedicine
      @JaiMedicine  6 лет назад +2

      Just Someone oh definitely, proper nutrition and sleep are essential. Thank you for the kind words and yes, some of those hairs are getting a little grey lol but I’ve come to embrace it

    • @justsomeone3362
      @justsomeone3362 6 лет назад +2

      Thanks Jai for replying! I wasn't expecting it, lol.
      Although you may have just 8 videos so far, I have to say that your channel's candor about medical school and the studying techniques are genuinely refreshing compared to other medical student/professionals here on RUclips. Sometimes they make me sincerely question their interest in medicine when they have an overabundance of pursuits outside of medicine that are all pointed toward attention-seeking pursuits, and it makes one wonder how exactly they have a medical profession when the profession is so time and energy demanding (as they also claim in their videos). Other times, they have presumptuous clickbait titles of how they were able to "get As in EVERY class" or how they got in the "100 percentile in their MCAT", with videos that provide mostly basic tips that anyone can find out from their college classmates or advisors in the first semester; as attention-grabbing as those videos might be, it subtly distances their viewers as these video creators shape and form an unattainable image of perfection of themselves.
      Well that was longer than I expected... To make a long statement (or rant) short, lol. Thanks for your direct honesty of medical school and the challenges of studying, being interviewed, and the application process. It provides a more authentic perspective of the challenges and rewards of pursuing medicine rather than the societal glamorous veneer the general population sees in television, magazines, movies, and now encroaching on social media (i.e. RUclips).

    • @JaiMedicine
      @JaiMedicine  6 лет назад

      Just Someone I really do appreciate the kind words, it means a lot. The path to becoming a doctor is somewhat glorified, especially on social media. I want to keep it as real as possible and hopefully by seeing my journey people will get a better understanding of their own.

    • @amnamir6676
      @amnamir6676 6 лет назад +2

      Just Someone and what’s wrong with having different pursuits outside of medicine ? I have several passions other than medicine and looking at those you tubers , like kaushal beauty or mahadotcom just inspires me that maybe I can too achieve that level of balance between med and other passions. It doesn’t make them less serious about med school . Med school can be so overwhelming sometimes , that if we don’t pursue our creative interests it may burn us out. If not more I think they deserve as much credit as this gentleman here.

    • @JaiMedicine
      @JaiMedicine  6 лет назад +2

      Amna Amjad absolutely right, digging our faces into a book should not be our end all be all. Most Med students I’ve met always have an outside hobby or interest that they pursue and I think this is necessary to not feel trapped in your studies

    I'm struggling right now because I see very slow progress from studying a lot of hours. I have histology and embryology exams and I read both books for the course (Junqueira's and Before we are born), to get a lot of passive information and to familiarize myself with all chapters.
    Now I'm trying to memorize the oral exam questions from notes that other students have made, and it takes so long. I mean in 3-4 hours of studying I memorize half a page only. And I have 120 pages to cover all the questions.
    So demotivating. I don't know how to memorize faster. I need the notes so I'll have all the info for each question. After reading the books I can say some stuff about most questions, but the structure is not there.

  • @MegaRaja54321
    @MegaRaja54321 6 лет назад +2

    So did you take your MCAT 3rd year undergrad? Also can you apply for med school before you're completely done your undergrad (so you know you're going right into med school after undergrad)

    • @JaiMedicine
      @JaiMedicine  6 лет назад

      I took it right after I finished my 3rd year. I also applied during that cycle, so I was doing my applications and interviews during the beginning of my 4th year of undergrad. If your grades, MCAT, and extra-curriculars/volunteering are strong, then applying early like I did should not be a problem. Other people take a gap year and use that year to boost up their application.

  • @shivanishastri4285
    @shivanishastri4285 6 лет назад +1

    If applications open up May 1st, is this a good time to draft out anything like a personal statement?
    And yes, I totally agree about the mindset of studying.

    • @JaiMedicine
      @JaiMedicine  6 лет назад +1

      Shivani Shastri if you’re taking the MCAT, I would use the month after your MCAT test date before your score comes back to work on the personal statement. What I would do is gather all your letters of recommendation because that could take a long time and you don’t want it to hold back your application
