Docks are another good place to try throwing a cast net (as long as there are no snags) because docks provide structure for shad. Feeder creeks dumping into rivers and lakes can also be a good place to try. Sometimes, I just have to try throwing my cast net in a variety of places until I get lucky. Be very careful of snagging a cast net however
