Monster rod holders and hydroweb landing nets here monsterrodhold...
That was really informative , who Wiig have ever thought to take a cat catfishing (genius ) hahaha
You always give great info, but you’re timing on putting out videos is second to none. Perfect video for this time of year!!! I’ll be trying this for sure. Bon peche’ guys!!!!
I’d crap a gold brick if I got a single net of shad like that lol
Cool stuff, heh, Shadiversity I thought.
That is a haul right there! Good video...watched it all....
Well what if i dont have a good depth finder or side scanner, how do i find the shad when the water is cold, are they normally in shallow or deep water
You are an awesome father! You are teaching Landon so much! You cannot put a price on the experiences you are having together. I look forward to seeing you guys in the years to come!
Hope to meet you guys at the Catfish Conference!
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Guillermo Jorge instablaster =)
@Louis Jaxtyn i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Louis Jaxtyn DAMN IT REALLY WORKED :O Just got access to my Instagram login within roughly 30 mins of using the site.
Just had to pay 15$ but definitely worth it :)
Thank you so much you saved my account!
@Guillermo Jorge You are welcome xD
I subscribe to a lot of fishing channels and I must say, this is my favorite. Informative, detailed, great content, and a wonderful father/son experience. Don't change a thing.
Thank you so much for the kind words and thanks for watching👍
When you fish taylorsville lake during the summer months once the water has hit 80. Do you normally drift above the thermocline or anchor up in spots shallow enough not to have one?
I do both but I have had better results fishing above the thermocline under planer boards. I plan on making a video about that this summer. Thank you for watching👍
Getting r done with haggen and landon love watching y'all guys
What kind of bait tank is that? I'm getting ready to buy one but some of them are purdy dang high in price
It is a striper soup 26 gallon but as far as I know they are not selling them anymore. You are right, most of them are pricey. Thank you for watching
Well sir I just did a video on this but you did a way better job than I could have!!! I did not like your thumbs up 666 so I hit the thumbs up and now you're 667 LOL 😋😋 I really enjoy watching you and your son catching catfish👍👍👌👌😁😁😁
Daggum bo! Now, I don't have side scan, so I need to figure out how to find them with downscan. Great video brother.
I like to use side scan to find them. Then instead of guessing about where 70’ or whatever is....I’ll head towards the school and switch to 2D. That leaves no doubt when and exactly where to throw.
Thanks for sharing. Found about yall from Catfish Dave.
Hi Hagen! I had a question? That propane tank on your boat for your heat. Is that the 30# tank approximately 23.4 inch height? I wanted one a little bigger than the smaller 20# and noticed yours was a little taller than the smaller one. And how many hours will it last on high? Thanks bud! Bart Taylor
#PopsCatFishing Kentucky/Ohio
You make it look easy. Great job and very informative 👍🐿
Literally one of the best Shad videos I’ve ever seen. My biggest struggle is catching bait man. I feel like I just learned something.
So are all white cats on a boat a good luck thing? I’ve heard stories about cats on boats being bad luck, but between your skill tossing that net, and that cat.......well, if a second video comes out with a cat with that kind of haul, I might be convinced!! Lol. Excellent video
Good job and thanks for the info. I got a new boat and new hook 9 finder. I didn’t know what they’d look like. I’m wanting shad for bass fishing.
I always hit the "like" button on these videos before they even start playing. Every one of them is great. I know I'm not the only fellow catter that enjoys your channel! Tight lines! 🤙🤙🤙
Is That coat you wearing warm
Very warm for the price. Very affordable on Amazon and semi water proof. Thank you for watching👍
Shad are always at bridges during the winter time. You can catch plenty of what I call horse shed van anytime in the winter time.😊
I invested in a good pair of neoprene gloves and bibb waterproof pants when I was catching bait in the winter. I fished Lake Lanier in Georgia and discovered that the shad as well as blueback herring schooled in the backs of creeks where the water was stained and shallower. I assume it had to do with the slightly higher temperature of the water there.
Great informative video
Thank you
enjoy watching your videos, what model Garmin are you using
Produced 40s& 50s. Even a 60 in kayaks division last year.
Awesome stuff brother! Love hunting shad in the winter. Just learning to throw an 8' 5/8". Ill get to a 10 soon.
That's interesting that you won't use anything under 8 inches. I prefer 4 to 6 inch shad. It seems to me that they have more scent.
Good Job With That 9' net ,,, LoL That Cat Is Thinking He Is In heaven with a those on the deck lol ,, Good Job Keep ya lines tight ,,
Hagen just pulled off taking a cat on a ride to get after some catfish and has the ability to throw perfect pancakes in the eye of a tornado 😮
Dose your motorguide trolling motor follow your Garmin gps or is it all manual, meaning that you are controlling the trolling motor ?
I don’t have the motorguide anymore but I had a non gps model that was all manual. (Controlled by remote) It was a great trolling motor but I upgraded to a 24v terrova. Thank you for watching.
@@hagengrubbsfishing I take it that the terrova trolling motor can be quided bu gps unit ?
Yes, I don’t have it paired with my fish finder but you can set a track and it will follow just by using the remote.
I have to say that I love the way you and Landon share with that cat and it shows that you’re a good couple of guys that cats not one bit afraid of you thumbs up. GOD bless looking forward to the next video thank you
Did you set up your sonar? Mine looks nothing like that. I haven’t seen a bait ball like that at all.
Can you tell me what the model your Garmin is and which transducer you use?
Red horse suckers (aka intercity walleye).
Fantastic video .....TKS for posting...
i hope you took some back for your awesome special guest, kitty lol
Huh, looks like the boat cat was the main factor here.
I have NEVER seen a video that explains how to read the electronics. I was sitting here screaming, "WAIT! WAIT! how do you know if they are on the right or the left, how do you know where to throw the net? It does no good to throw the net where there aren't any fish!" Great Video! Do more!
... By the time you see them on the side scan they are PAST the boat (behind it).
Hit a way point on the school.
Turn the boat around.
Ease to the waypoint and get within cast net range of where you think they are and let the net fly.
. Jeff .
.
You ever gut them shad an take donations for jars of gut??
Well casts nets are illegal here in California so what do I do now 😂
I'm having a hard time with my cast net, and it was about 50.00 dollars for a 5ft one. I was wondering if a higher end net opens better or do I need to practice a bit more.
Thank you for your time.
Sorry for the late reply.
The higher quality nets definitely open better. Something that helps a lot is to soak the net in a bucket of water with a few cups of fabric softener. I normally let mine soak for a couple days. It makes the net unbelievably soft and easier to handle. Thank you for watching and good luck👍
You doing it right brother, Blessup
I want me a boat kitty!! Very nice shad haul!
Good job on catching Shad. Wish we could find them like that on my home lake
That was a net buster bro ..awesome video..
Great video Hagen thanks for information
So y'all were at Taylorsville lake in KY.
Well done Hagen ! I guess we need a cat for good luck
Great video! Any recommendations for a bank fisherman? I’ve been throwing off the docks into the deepest water I can find but Im not sure if that’ll keep working as it gets colder
Boat ramps are a great place to catch them from the bank, as long as it’s not being used heavily at the time. Especially on a sunny day. Thank you for watching
What model is that Garmin fish finder been wanting to update. I have been told the 93sv I think it was is the best to get for the money
I have the 93sv plus. I think it was replaced by a 93 uhd that has much better side imaging than what mine has.
Catfish Dave or Catfish Kayak shouted you out not long ago. Way to go!!
@Leah Zeiters - Glad you said that, Leah! It was Dave. Very nice shout out about our Mr. Grubbs. Keep up the great work Hagen & Landon!
Hello my new friend
Great video Hagen, enjoyed so nuch
Great video man!
Done support for you
How did you get the water hose setup?
So i just need a 40,000$ boat and 1,000$ sonar to find shad lol
My boat and sonar combined may be worth around 1000$ if I was lucky lol. Kidding but not kidding 🤣thanks for watching👍
@@hagengrubbsfishing you should do a video on finding shad in cold water from shore
I have a kayak and a $100 fish finder and it works too
What brand and size net do you prefer using for gizzard shads? Weight size also ?
I like a 10’ 1” mesh with 1lb lead per ft. I normally get either the lee fisher joy fish mullet net, the fitec super spreader mullet net or betts mullet net depending on which is cheaper at the time. Here’s a link to a video where I explain nets some more if you would like to check it out. Thank you for watching👍 ruclips.net/video/45y6G1g5KAs/видео.html
Thanks for the great tips
I only have a cheaper down imaging unit that came with the boat. When I spot a "blob" of baitfish on the down image, how do I know where exactly to throw the net? I mean specifically, which side of the boat, front, back, where exactly should I throw the net?
If your transducer is mounted on your transom and you are in fairly shallow water, 5-20ft. when you see them on your down-imaging screen they are directly under the back of your boat or slightly behind it depending on the speed you are moving while scanning. What I do is spin the boat around with the trolling motor and throw where the back of the boat was previously. If it’s a small school it is very difficult, but if it’s a large school you will get them. Thanks for watching and good luck. 👍
@@hagengrubbsfishing thanks for the advice man. Great channel!
Very cool! Now I know what to look out for on my sonar! Looks like it worked fine the shallows! Happy Fishing!
Wow what a score on those Shad. Wish I could throw a 9 foot donut like that. I had to go to a 4 foot to get a good round cast. Thanks for the info.
Great info thx Bro
My home lake. I live 5minutes from where you guy's put in. Finally starting to see consistent size. Last couple tournaments have prod
Good stuff guys
Catfish Dave brought me here, i am subbed and i liked
Thank you
Great job
Great team
New Sub Bro!
Hey Hagen! I LOVE your videos! Your videos are pretty much me and my sons adventures! My son is 8 and I'm guessing Landon is 10 or so... Nothing like passing down knowledge to next generation! Happy Fishing from coastal NC!!!
How to o compare taylorsville lake vs river. I was there last month for a deer hunt
Taylorsville has a good population of blue cats but it is a very challenging fishery. I prefer the river over the lake personally. Thanks for watching
Love the videos! Is that the xi3 or 5? Do you recommend it? I am building out a pontoon for catfishing and need a trolling motor
we love your videos. been with you from. the begining. was wondering which Garmin you are running. thanks for your videos keeps me pumped up all year.
What reels do you use ?
Now thats alot of bait
Great info as usual.
Great videos 👍
Huh, Shad the fish?
great video dude. i was thinking of hitting Taylorsville this weekend if the weather is nice. i read the stripers and hybrid bass are biting good
I really like your channel alot. You and Landon are definitely my favorite team out there and you' keep it simple just like me and my son do. We live in Ohio and fish the Ohio river when we aren't working. We just got our boat this year so it's not 100% the way I want it yet but we are close. I need a bait tank but I don't want to spend 700 bucks. What kind do you use and what pump system? Thanks for making the videos we have fun watching Landon reel in the big ones lol
Fish on Landon!
My wife and I really enjoy your channel.
This was a very helpful episode as well.
I noticed you are using a Garmin. I am planning on adding something like this to our Tracker pontoon boat and would like your input on selecting a unit.
As far as budget I would prefer $500 to $1000.
Any recommendations?
In that price range I would go with the garmin echomap uhd 93sv. Great unit for the money. Basically the same thing I have but has been improved and has great imaging. Thank you all for watching
@@hagengrubbsfishing
As luck would have it, Bass pro shop had them on sale and are sold out. Not available for home delivery either...lol
I checked all stores in Tennessee, kentucky and Ohio even....
Ebay has them but I think I will wait a month or so and see what comes up...
If you happen to come see something new come up let me know if you remember..
Going to try to make it to the catfish conference so might see something there.
Hope you get this follow up question..
I found the Garmin you suggested for $749 with the GT54UHD Transducer.
I see they have discontinued this transducer and the same unit now ships with the GT56UHD Transducer for $1099.
In your opinion is it worth that much more money to get the new Transducer or go with the gt54 since I am really a weekend angler until I retire in 2 years.
Nice
Do you freeze gizzard shad at all? Great catch.
I have used frozen shad in the winter with good results. That’s about the only time I will use it. Thanks for watching
Great video guys, do you have one on your water pump you were cleaning up with?
That is actually just a through hull livewell pump that I just put a short piece of hose on. Not as much pressure as the wash down pumps but gets the job done. It was on the boat when I got it and wasn’t being used for anything so I figured I’d get some use out of it lol. Thanks for watching 👍
@@hagengrubbsfishing thank you sir!!!
Good stuff as usual brother👍🏻 Thanks for taking us with you!
Nice video to bad my human bird only shows actual fish icon and I never know what kind of fish they are 😂
Nice Gato.
Were you on the Ohio like 2 weekends ago near Leavenworth? I just realized a boat just like yours with the katfish logo came past me while I was on the bank.
Yes that was me. We’re you by the old dam? If so I’m sorry I got so close. I didn’t see you until I was really close. Thanks for watching 👍
It's cool man. It's pretty awesome I got to see one of my favorite cat fishing youtubers around me honestly lol. I was pissed at first but then I got to thinking after I left that the way you quit running with that other boat you may have swung over to my side to try and stir up some fish for me since I've heard alot of catfish guys say when barges or boat motors come through it'll get em biting sometimes so we're cool 🤣. I think I had my camo hoodie on also on the riverbank so I probably blended pretty well from the water.
But yeah right in front of the old dam and pumphouse or whatever that is probably 50 yards past it
Love the Cat
Thank you
Beautiful
That's awsome man you got a cat living under the poop deck
Excellent
This is a great video on catching shad in the winter.
Thank you
Thanks
Can you recommend a good all around cast net for a beginner, I'm right handed and have a bad right shoulder so I'm figuring a smaller net would be easier for me but I don't know ?
Fitec super spreader gs1000 is a good net and you can get some good deals on them at times. Thanks for watching
@@hagengrubbsfishing thank you
That was a great video. The best I've seen on catching winter gizzard shad. I'm going to order a a 7ft with 5/8 mesh. 7 is the biggest allowed in tx. Then I'm going to lake tawokoni to go for giant winter time blues. I don't have proper sized catfish rod and reels, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse not to try. If they break my equipment, at least I'll have a good story
Hagen you sure got a better boat. Looking good 👍 I enjoy your fishing.
I recognize a local spot in some of your videos, you ever sale frozen bait?
Dave was right. Great channel
Thanks
