Primitive Trapping, Catching Rats With a Paiute Deadfall Trap!

In this video Jeff discusses the Paiute deadfall trap and puts it to use by trapping rats that were destroying garden crops. Out of all the primitive deadfall traps, the Paiute style trap is our favorite. We have used these trap to catch and eat hundreds of animals when teaching students and living off the land for extended amounts of time.

I love the vertical stake to help control the lateral movement. Have you ever tried putting a small round stone between the toggle and bait stick? It's tricky to set up but super sensitive.

How did you dispatch? When I trap rats in a live cage I just throw the whole trap in a bucket of water and go have a cup of coffee... I hate to watch em die.
