I've transferred my interest in traps over to you, I love that you show in detail how it's made, how it works in theory and field testing it and recording it. this is life saving knowledge. Thank you my hats off to you sir.
So this is how to avoid people bitching about animals getting killed: dont show them the moneyshot and instantly it becomes fine. Out of sight out of mind huh? Simple minds...
Divine Linker Pretty much. I've had idiots sit there and talk down to me about hunting and trapping and call me a barbarian while stuffing their fat face with Chicken Mcnuggets and a cheeseburger.
+Big Boss "I eat meat, but only if it's been wrapped in plastic" (e.g. supermarket meat) actual quote from a relative. As long as they don't witness the death and processing, they somehow think they're less "barbaric" than those of us who can do it all. They are unabashedly pawning off the dirty work on someone else, someone who is a small piece in a corporation that cares nothing for the quality of life or the speed of death of their meat animals. But somehow that makes them a better person...
To the little rat troll, who sent a noreply and hidden comment to me, connected to this vid ... Here it is in the open .... You can't hide !!!! Let everybody see you for the rat pellet that you are ... Dragitall You Rightist moonbat horseshit not necessary. Shut up troll. Go pop your pimples. You don't have a YT site, and your comments are utter insanity. Take your medication.
you care to show the trap in a simple manner that people can understand. I'm just trying to calculate how many lives you will be responsible for saving if times get really tough. great job, I think I speak for almost everyone watching please maintain these invaluable video's you're totally on target.
I love that you not only showed how to make it but took the time and patience to show it in action. It is nice to know it can work be for I go and try it.
Excellent! Did you read about this in Paul Campbell's Survival Skills of Native California? Ive worked and used to know Paul. If you do not have his book, I can lend you mine. Its a ton of information.
I just found Paul Campbell's book online when researching this trap. Page 65 was very informative and the inspiration for this video. I recently ordered a copy and can't wait to read it. You are very lucky to have worked with him. Get a copy of this book at: books.google.com/books?id=qSRLW5ziVFAC&pg=PA65&lpg=PA65&dq=mojave+scissor+trap+cambel&source=bl&ots=Gu8k99UQhu&sig=PIOj4sGYXDeO6atPirAh_rCPorg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwis9NS1sLPRAhXKhVQKHUJDBhYQ6AEIQjAJ#v=onepage&q=mojave%20scissor%20trap%20cambel&f=false
Thanks for the link Shawn . It is interesting the names given to these traps . The scissor trap and the Paiute were both taught to me by my Apache uncle and cousins over 50 years ago .
Good video, so your in a survival situation, using natural materials. What bait are you going to use? Hungry, it would be hard to leave food behind in hopes of catching something. I can understand using something from a previous kill, but what did you use to get that kill?
Why go through all this and harm an innocent animal, when you can get your meat from the grocery store or a supermarket, where no animals were harmed? - - For real, though, this is a very informative and a well-made video. Loved it!
Awesome!!! You make the coolest stuff..!!! I just hope there are many rabbits if I ever get lost in the woods. Rats and squirrels........would have to be really, really hungry.
Some people don't understand the definition of VERMIN, or maybe those people somehow relate to vermin. Maybe they should try to pass a law that makes cockroaches a protected species as well.
Quite interesting video for those who are waiting the situation to come when such the way for survival will be the only chance. There will not be any PC nor mobile phones available for sure ... the question is what way the others will choose to get the food in the same time .... anyway thanks for reminding us on how natives used to live in the past.
Another Fantastic tutorial sir!! You make great videos! One suggestion: couldn't you just use a third hoop instead of the crossbar with the two sticks? Would even be less work and less string . Regards from Germany
Alright Shawn, I've got a challenge for you. There is a live catch wild hog trap that is a cage with a door that only opens inward. It uses springs to keep the door closed after a pig pushes it open. Challenge: make a "rope spring" version.
Red Beard That could be done pretty easily with a few dry, flattened wooden 'springs' that are tied to the door with spring tension from the bend in the wood holding it closed. They'd have to be well-seasoned and waterproofed, though.
Impressive because most people I see making traps or snares rarely catch anything. Alone series is a great example of how these so called experienced woodsman can't even catch small game much less large. This is the difference between modern and ancient man.
Excellent, effective trap Some ancient know how never goes out of use! Q. How durable, strong is the string you made? If you have not I suggest you make a video showing how to make natural string and or rope and how strong it can be.
Shawn, thank you for sharing your passion with us, your videos are so informative, you clearly explain all the elements and I'm happy to report that I made this trap yesterday, actually 3 of them. All 3 worked beautifully. I did a lot of hiding of the bait and can't be more pleased with the results. Keep the knowledge coming.
+Erox-YT-Gaming 2, I would try one, I've eaten lots of strange bugs and weird plants that most people cringe at, but am yet to dine on rats.... when I shoot them in my chicken run, my dogs won't touch them... maybe they would if they were cooked?
Great videos! I agree , these traps are a much wiser use of energy than large game hunting. First off, there will always be more small game than large game, secondly, large game requires preservation skills and TIME. Time may not be in your favour. Third, these traps made from natural materials are obviously very effective, so you do not have to weigh your pack down with store bought traps. It's always lighter to carry knowledge in your head that gear on your back! Well done, I'm subscribing. MiF
No one can guarantee the rats you catch, won't infect you if eaten..they carry deadly diseases and bacteria they eat feces and sewage and have deadly pathogens in their meat..eat at your own risk..cooking well might not be enough...
Mark Bushcraft Richards in completed wild its fine to eat them as there's no dangerous human waste by must be checked ( liver lungs heart ) for dangerous illness
No thanks..I seen first hand how dirty they are..I've shot hundreds of them over the years and trapped them..I've watched them eat each other...If you trap them an urban area they'll have been in the sewer..Fleas on them help spread the diseases..if you're hundreds of miles away from civilisation they might be ok..But as I said they should only be eaten in extreme survival situations..each to their own..If you want to eat them go ahead I won't stop you..lol
awesome video! i love these trapping videos you are doing. i live in australia and im trying to find sources of how the native aboriginals made their rock fish traps. would love to see more of these!
Intriguing, is there a European name for this as I recall a similar trap being used by late swedish hunters and Irish gauls but cannot recall it's name
+loopy loon erm....I just stated I meant gael but misspelled and I only mention this because I saw something similar in the national museum of dublin when I visited

Gonna have to send you a beer for all the great knowledge.....
why not use three hoops and two pairs of scissors and not have to block the back end? that first one would have still bought the farm that way.
I was thinking the same thing. But why did you reply to this guy's comment?
I did not know this trap. Great demo! I love how little energy the trap spring requires.
Nice trap, most traps are very well known and are in multiple survival guides but I've never heard of this one before, so +1. Nice work!
People like you do a great service by sharing this information. Thank you
Too bad there aren't troll and whiner-blocker traps ... Need to tap that thumbs up another 500,000x.

It is an effective trap for sure but also more complex than a standard fixed snare or a standard spring snare. Thanks for sharing.
could you upload how the trap works in action on some other website that isn't all aabout being PC?
I love that you not only showed how to make it but took the time and patience to show it in action. It is nice to know it can work be for I go and try it.

For real, though, this is a very informative and a well-made video. Loved it!
You are so good at making things
Very informative and well done. The addition of videos showing the traps functioning (or not) is an excellent idea!
You know in one day this might save someones life! Thanks
Fantastic video! I am going to build one just for the experience
i heard his video got banned. i suppose some animal rights hypocrites made that happened. and i felt sorry for shawn.
Quite interesting video for those who are waiting the situation to come when such the way for survival will be the only chance. There will not be any PC nor mobile phones available for sure ... the question is what way the others will choose to get the food in the same time ....
anyway thanks for reminding us on how natives used to live in the past.
can you believe that I've never seen a rat in my entire life lol
i'd eat pine cones before I remembered to do all that !
Have you thought of doing videos about making different types bows? I think it would be very entertaining. :)
Great video! I had never seen this trap and it seems to be less "tricky" to make and set.
great! now go wash your hand ✋
Another Fantastic tutorial sir!! You make great videos!
One suggestion: couldn't you just use a third hoop instead of the crossbar with the two sticks? Would even be less work and less string . Regards from Germany
I wonder how effective this trap is and does the animal need to apply a lot of force to the trigger?
this may sound dumb but can you find obsidian naturally and easily?
Great video. Does rat taste similar to squirrel?
Alright Shawn, I've got a challenge for you. There is a live catch wild hog trap that is a cage with a door that only opens inward. It uses springs to keep the door closed after a pig pushes it open. Challenge: make a "rope spring" version.

the title says the trap *in action* then people complain about the skippabl3 footage with a warning...
hypocrites.
How do you make cordage?
Great video, man. Very informative and very cool.
Интересное видео. Автор молодец!
Excellent video! THank you so much.
I love your videos
Excellent, effective trap
Some ancient know how never goes out of use!
Q. How durable, strong is the string you made?
If you have not I suggest you make a video showing how to make natural string and or rope and how strong it can be.
That is one awesome trap! Thanks for sharing.
Shawn, thank you for sharing your passion with us, your videos are so informative, you clearly explain all the elements and I'm happy to report that I made this trap yesterday, actually 3 of them. Great trap! Love the video. Not sure about eating rats but when you're hungry eh?
Fraser Mair like they say "a wolf will eat his leg to survive" or something like that
+Erox-YT-Gaming 2, I would try one, I've eaten lots of strange bugs and weird plants that most people cringe at, but am yet to dine on rats.... when I shoot them in my chicken run, my dogs won't touch them... maybe they would if they were cooked?

Very cool method. Nice. Jeff
Very nice trap. Well thought out. Greetings
1st time here. Great explanation bud. Good stuff.
Love your videos Shawn!
do you have some hints for setting bait, do you make it hard for the animal to pull on, or just set it past the trigger stick?
Tom Lowday
Tie the bait to the trigger stick with very thin string or cordage so the animal has no choice but to give it a tug.
Excellent vid sir, thanks for sharing.
Very well done!!
Another amazing video! Great trap too
Cool trap...but eating rats is a risky game..should only eat them in extreme survival situations....each to their own..I won't be eating any..
Mark Bushcraft Richards the fire kills the diseases that they carry.
No one can guarantee the rats you catch, won't infect you if eaten..they carry deadly diseases and bacteria they eat feces and sewage and have deadly pathogens in their meat..eat at your own risk..cooking well might not be enough...
Mystic Silver haunta virus. you might google that.

Thank you for making these videos. And showing how they work.
Great trap, great video.
Thank you for sharing
is there a difference between dogbane and wolfsbane?
Intriguing, is there a European name for this as I recall a similar trap being used by late swedish hunters and Irish gauls but cannot recall it's name
I meant gaels rather than gauls but yes you are correct
True, he probably meant to type celtic, since the gauls & irish are/were both celtic peoples.
+loopy loon erm....I just stated I meant gael but misspelled and I only mention this because I saw something similar in the national museum of dublin when I visited
That comment wasn't up when I made mine.
I would loved to meet the guy that came up with that idea first. smart man or woman
instead of blocking the back side could you set another pinch stick to the same spring on the other side?
Very interesting trap.
Shawn , are these good for ground squirrels too , or would you need something bigger ?
Awesome video! Great tutorial.
The dogbane was gathered before the snow?
where would I get the chord in the wilderness?
