I've watched many versions of this trap. Your attention to detail, and technique, sets yours apart. I've watched this video many times. It's like a great movie, even though you know the ending, you still have to watch! Great job!
I agree 100% Madison. They had the greatest motives for their efforts, necessity. I appreciate all your support and your kind words so much! Take care and keep up the good work.
We had a book while I was in Special Forces. It was called the "Green Beret Gourmet". It was written as humor, but they were actual recipes. I remember the one about "Paddy rat delight". Gut, clean, wrap in a large banana leaf with an herbs or spices and bake while buried in a coal pit. You wouldn't want to know some of it's contents...
Terrific instructional video. Just subscribed. Looking at learning how to build and actually practice building and setting traps like this. One question. When you anchor down the scissor with your cordage. Instead of tying it off, could you drill a hole through the stick and tie it off that way? Just thinking.
Thank you so much Michael! I think it would pay off if you were really depending on this trap being a proven design. Thanks for your kind words and I honestly can't brag on this blade enough. @WilliamCollins does a phenomenal job with his knife designs. Every curve has a specific purpose and performs exactly as intended. I will review this one in depth very soon. Take care Michael.
whenever i use this i cant ever seem to get the bait stick to hold up the toggle stick. Im thinking its from to much tension. does it need to be a very strong spring
It seems like there could be multiple inlets in a circle around the trigger and bait stick since they could be independently attached to the spring mechanism. The loops could be tied together in the center and they dont have to be loops, just a constraint (even square) to hold the V portion and contain the animal once trapped. I can also see this trap scaled up for larger game using log counter weights... I like this trap.
Thank you so much Daniel! Give it a shot..it isn't too difficult and it is a fun one tot week with. Always good to have these skills just in case. Take care sir!
Very nice demo! I've seen a couple of videos catching rats & skunks. If scaled properly, do you think I could get away with using the awl on my knife to make a couple of holes at the top of the scissors and feed the cordage through? My gut says that it would depend upon the wood.
very well done i really learned something here..look forward to trying this trap out..and that woodsman jr is perfect for these sort of carving tasks..safe journeys
Thank you so much Blackie! I am glad you got something from this one! I agree that the Jr is just perfect for this stuff. I really love this knife and can't quit using it! I find something to use it for every day. Let me know how this one works out for you if you think about it. Take care brother!
Me too Michael. I don't like the thought of making the animal suffer for long periods. That is one of the ethical hunter/trapper's worst fears. Thanks for tuning in brother! Take care.
There are bit more parts to assemble than some traps but it would hopefully pay off in it's function. Thank you for your kind words and for tuning in Mark!
I am currently filming with a Sony AX-33. I film at 60 fps which gives that "real life" look to the picture. Thank you so much for your time, interest and kind words! Most appreciated.
I always masons twine for primitive traps bc I’m paranoid that the tar smell of bank line will ward off the prey. Have you had any problems with that? I don’t know how you’d tell really as I know it’s more about numbers of traps set than anything else. Just something I’ve always been paranoid about.
That thought has crossed my mind as well. I have not found that to be the case though. Like you said though, it really is hard to know for sure. Numbers really are the key to success for these traps. 10:1 is the general success ratio. Thanks for tuning in and commenting.
It is fantastic for knots. It is the very best in my opinion. Since it is tarred, it tends to bind on itself and hold really well. It is also top choice for a bow drill cord.
If you reference a certain thing in your videos (such as the constricter knot) and you say you have a video we could watch if we aren’t familiar, from now on could you put a link in the description? It would be tremendously helpful for newer subscribers, or people who are new to all this
Hello brother, thanks for tuning in! If you look in the top right corner of the video, I put links to both the clove hitch and the constrictor knot up there. Maybe it would be worthwhile to add it to the description as well. Thanks for your suggestion! Take care.
Thank you so much Josh. I really appreciate your kind words my friend. This trap could definitely be scaled up and used for other game like rabbits, possums and raccoons as well. The trap just has to be scaled properly to make it effective on the target species. Take care.
I hope it is working well for you Jake! At the end in the added clip, I did have on the Western Rise Anorak. In the earlier clips I was wearing the Fjallraven Anorak 10. They are both very nice jackets. For the money, the Western Rise is hard to beat. I have it listed on my Amazon Storefront. The Fjallraven Anorak 10 is in a league of it's own. I got a GREAT deal on it and couldn't turn it down. I had been eying them for 2 years almost. It is among my favorite garments I own easily. I appreciate you tuning in my friend.
You could use apple, carrot, lettuce or any natural food source that they feed on in your local area. A little peanut butter is always an attention getter for small game if you carry it in a kit.
It is the Jr Woodsman by William Collins (WC Knives) It is an AMAZING knife! I will be reviewing and demoing it very soon. Thanks you for your time and interest!
All these survival traps seem to require miles of cordage and way too much time. You can't beat the simple snare. No cordage, go to deadfalls, but they are time consuming too. You will need all your time to locate edible plants.
NICE! What would you use as bait to ensnare an Over-Bearing, Bossy, Crabby, Cold-Hearted, Over-Dramatic, Gold-Digging Wife? I um am asking for a friend.
Those all sound like good options Jim! I just hope she isn't reading your YT comments lol! Remember to scale the trap up quite a bit to match your target..um...species.

This is demonstrated only as a last resort survival measure. If you were in such a situation and were starving or if your loved one or child were starving, I can imagine you and anyone else would be glad to have the knowledge and to use it. I don't think sneaking up behind someone with a baseball bat puts anyone on the moral high ground,
Gary, so if you find yourself in a 'life or death' situation, it is only a "maybe" that you would choose to eat and survive? It kind of narrows down the choices of 'life' or 'death'....you're choosing your own demise.

❤one of the best traps to use in woods thank u sir. I make out of tiki torch I split them up into long pieces thats how I do mine
Excellent! I use a variation of this with a twitch up so no hoops.

Good one that should be good in arizona

Over complicated BS
And yet it provided primitive man enough food to evolve into us.
