Nice video, thanks! Also, we will consider adding the side band in the future.
Might be a good use for the AM/FM button, short press AM, short press SSB long press FM on EU modles
What about separate squelch?
@@terrygunderson5681 the way it is right now it's am/fm short press and it works fine. I'm in Europe and if I can't hear someone I just press it to switch to AM . 99% of Europe uses FM but AM is still there. And maybe SSB is used only from ham like CB fans.
Please PLEASE!
make a SSB one please!
Please include a jack for a telegraphy key. Believe it or not, I use CW on channel 40. There is a little CW group that communicates on weekends.
I subscribe to your Channel bring back CB it was a lot of fun back in my day I went to amateur radio in 1989 but I had a lot of fun on CB we used to have good times bring back CB we really appreciate you making this video thank you your best friend in Atlanta Georgia
Going to get this one for my truck. Nice and small! Thanks for making this video!
Back in 1966, Lafayette introduced its "CB Commander", the HB-600. It was a 23 channel AM base/mobile rig, expandable to 25 channels, and it featured a genuine Collins mechanical filter and a real noise blanker. I can't recall any other "Commanders" out there.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful compact radio take it anywhere with you I think your platform was excellent thank you so much
I do have the similar build Albrecht AE 6110.
The reason is the multi modes you can do.
It starts up with simply switch between the different european modes.
From 40 AM to 80 AM/FM channels depending on in which country you are at the moment.
The best ist the HAM Mode! You can switch to 28 mhz FM to cover the 10 meter Ham Band.
Finally you cover a wide range with this small trx. CB and HAM whatever you need.
Nice little CB Radio. I still rely on an OLD Radio Shack TRC-483 CB, that also has a PA function with a push button, and also an emergency Channel 9 button, along with a Weather button, that automatically switches over to weather radio. It's about 2-3 times the size of the CB27, but has a lot more buttons and knobs. It has and external speaker plug in, as well as an external PA speaker plug in. I also have an old Uniden BC 3580C Scanner hooked up just below the CB. They both still meet my needs as an amateur storm spotter and chaser. I like the CB27, but it just doesn't have what I need. Still, it would be good for emergencies.
Nice to see a ham not poopoo on 11 meter for a change. I like the small form factor, but like a lot of the other commenters, SSB would make it a lot more attractive.
While I agree, being a ham, but there are very few CB operators using SSB. *In the US
@@jroysdon : It depends where you live.....here in the UK & Western Europe most people use SSB (and to a lesser extent, FM). SSB, FM and AM are all now legal for CB in the UK but very few people ever use AM.....I've only heard one AM conversation in the last three years.
I tried ham and gave up. Too many smug assholes.
@@ericzerkle5214 I know what you mean, I have a complete HF station setup with a 80 meter dipole, and a ton of 2 meter stuff, it just gathers dust.
We need some antenna reviews to go with this. One mobile and one base station. Thanks, and 73 - Kilo Golf Six Hotel
Good review, I picked up a couple of the pro version with fm, no one is using . Works good, cheap option to outfit multiple vehicles
Although I appreciate the succinct review - I am always at a loss as to how a review is posted without an on the air test example.
Nice succinct review...thank you. Have you had a chance to check out the cb-27 pro am/FM unit?
I have an albrecht ae6110,which is more or less the same radio with only interface differences.
This will probably make some hams mad,but these radios can be opened up to cover 25.615-30.105MHz in am/fm.
If you are not even a freebander, this makes this little radio a nice toy for 10meter am/fm
I have it too. But I don't want to mess up the channels. :D and I will need to carry a list of what channel is what frequency on which mode
@@todop practically, you won't use all the 400 channels every day,for example I never used 25mhz or 30mhz ones.usually the middle, the upper and the lower 40 channels are used in real life, that is fairly easy to remember.and you don't need to memorize modes, you can switch between am/fm with the a/f button, and the display shows in which mode you are currently
Is there a website with modification instructions?
Speaking of CB, do you have a suggestion for a good price-point CB radio with ssb?
I will definitely pick one up. I enjoy my GD77 DMR HT. Good Quality.
Needs CW on it 🤓
I know this vid old but I was wondering if you could turn it on and listen without the mic installed. Thanks
Would you recommend the CB27 over the
Uniden CMX760 Bearcat ?
Thank you for the informative video sir! 73 de AC6GM!
Does anyone have an image of the back of the mic? Just wondering if it'd be possible to retro fit a universal microphone hanger button. I'm not fond of the type it comes with.
I like that you drive a 6 speed stickshift. I wish that I had gotten a 6 speed. Next time!
You forgot to mention one of the best features. The auto squelch. Long press squelch button I saw you had it on in the video
I know nothing about cb... But I got a used 4ft fire stick... Can I hook that antenna to this?
What antenna are you using for this radio
Watched the video, read the comments from other people, " can this radio be tuned or is this radio already tuned? How about a 1 watt switch? Side ban? In the spec. Of this radio what is about standard setting of modulation? On the out? 50% 75 % or higher? Just like to know , thanks.
Nice review! N2QVA
Since FM CB is used now in the USA does that mean the FM band is still not a choice on this radio?
Hi, i have a question. Is VHF or UHF?
Do you know anything about the K-Po Panther????
Hi.
I seek a service manual or schematic for this cb.
I have the older Albrecht 6110 with non removable microphone. And I would really like to have a separate squelch
I like its small size.
The COMMANDER! The little big sounding rig.
Nice video! What budget friendly antenna would pair up great with this radio?
Ml140 seems to be nice cheap antenna. I have a. It too good but working PNI small antenna that looks like a car antenna . Like President Virginia if I'm not mistaken
If you long press the rfg button it cicles between "E" and "P". Any idea what's that? Thx
E is for Europe and P for Poland.
Does it have a PA function? The listing on the Radioddity site mentions something about a PA speaker.
There is a 3.5mm jack for an external speaker. I believe in order to use it as a PA though, you will need an audio amplifier. I didn't hook an external speaker to it, so I may have to test that out.
@@KB9VBRAntennas ... There is no PA system in this radio, just an external speaker jack.
Are Linear still band for cb use? They were in my days on the cb .
BDK Custom: Yes, they're still illegal....but most people have one :-/
I figured out how to get the FM to work and add extra channels
CB old days
I have never seen a CB radio this small before. I wonder how Radioddity made a CB radio and put it in a small package. Amazing radio though! :D
Surface mount technology. It keeps getting smaller and smaller!
Looks very similar to any tone smart CB
Question...
What travels further... on average... 2m simplex on an HT, or CB?
There are a couple of factors that can determine range such as antenna height and terrain. But I have found‚ on simplex‚ with either a 2m or 70cm handheld radio that I can get 1.5 - 2 miles from car to car traveling on the highway. If I use an external antenna and a 50 watt mobile radio I can go 5-7 miles car to car. I think a CB radio on the highway will give you about 5 miles- but I'm not certain as I don't use CB every day.
I prefer my good ole Uniden PC33 rig (awesome receive and NB).
But thanks for the nice video :)
Noise blanker is a feature that's missing on this radio. I forgot to mention that in the video.
Hello Michael. Do the CB radios have an impedance of 50 ohms?
Yes they do. CB radios, and this one included, typically have a 50 ohm impedance.
@@KB9VBRAntennas Thanks Michael.
Interesting radio, but I want to get a CB with side band support.
The Uniden PC-122XL is not too much larger than this unit. It's a good radio IMO.
President Lincoln II+ is the size of a single din stereo head unit. I am thinking of removing my double din head unit in my vehicle and getting a single din stereo head unit. Then I am going to mount a President Lincoln II+ under the head unit. I saw someone do this with the exact model of vehicle I drive and quite enjoyed the look, convenience and function of the install.
now that FM is FCC approved in the USA I'd assume the FM works on new models.. I realize this was shot before that happened int he USA.
My question is can I listen police scanner and call for the emergency if something happens, yes no,see soon here thx
It's just like the Albrecht 6110
at almost 1/2 the cost tho
Does this cb have an emergency channel, so I can listen to local fire and law enforcement?
It has an emergency button for channel 9 but this radio won't receive any police and fire as those radio services are on the VHF public safety bands
Can you peak up the mod
How many amps does it pull I'm thinking about it for my bike
Approximately 2 amps on transmit.
@@KB9VBRAntennasthanks I think this will work out fine then with my 4 aph battery
It looks like a nice radio but I need weather alerts because it's going to be used in my RV and I need to know what kind of weather I am driving into. The President Bill is about the same size and it has weather alerts. The Bill is more expensive but for my purposes the extra expense is worth it.
hold down A/F button and turn on radio ..you will get all the band EU CE PL DE UK ..ECT
So you're saying the US model can transmit on FM via a simple reboot?
@@theartofprepping yes.
@@bruceclark5627 thanks!
FM????
@@stevekopcial129 yes FM, its better compared to AM, less distortion, more clear, less change of distortion on other equipment and bit longer range as well
But no side bands? Seriously, that would sell me on it.
How much $ ?
This one is also known as the Teamup TM-27. Site below indicates it's also known as the Uniden CB-27 or C-27, but I couldn't find a model by that name anywhere.
radioaficion.com/cms/teamup-tm27/
International version has an additional 40 channels, FM only from 26.565-26.955. Pictures show it has some adjustments, so might be able to tune up to 4W unmodulated/16W PEP carrier, as I'm sure it doesn't come anywhere near that out of the box. I'd be afraid of overheating, though, especially in a small vehicle with limited mounting options that could restrict airflow.
Does seem like a good portable unit for traveling, especially if paired with something like a Wilson Lil Wil antenna. Good review - subbed.
2:50 why was the FM disabled in the US?
In the US, FM is not permitted on the citizens band. In order for this radio to receive its type acceptance from the FCC, that features would need to be disabled.
@@KB9VBRAntennas if you have it can you tri to hold each of the buttons wile powering on? It might give you eu mode or something
@@todop ... Already tried and no go. The FM is permanently disabled on this model.
There is a 10 watt mod (code)
Cb Fm simplex freq: Channel 31 fm
(now that fm is legal!)
As a visually impaired radio user, I'd like to know what kind of audible feedback there is from this radio: beeps for button presses, channel number entry/announcement, etc. Also, when you press EMG, can you then move from there up and down the channel selection? So if you wanted to get to, say, channel 30, could you press EMG twice then go up 11 channels? Also, if so, what happens if you then press EMG again, which would traditionally return you to the channel you started from? Does it assume that, since you moved from our example 19 to 30, that you're ... out of EMG mode? Or does it just go back whereever you were before you moved up to 30 from 19?
Accessibility, especially on a channeled system like this, doesn't have to be grand or difficult or expensive.
Can I still use my Yaesu 101?
I did a cross country move from NH to WA purchased CB to talk with truckers or other users. While on this 2000+ mile trip I did not find anyone that was using it. CB is dead unfortunately.
Think how the squelch is implemented would drive me crazy.
The squelch isn't that bad. In the video AQ is used but the manual recommends the SQ setting as the first choice as it give more control.
AQ detects the noise of the incoming signal where as the SQ works just like the squelch on any other CB radio. Also the SQ setting has a larger operating range than the AQ setting so the SQ is much more versatile.
I have one of these little radios and it works just fine. And it is small enough to fit in a Go Box or Bag without taking up very much room!
Pair it with a Lil' Will (or similar) mag-mount antenna and you have a nice little setup that you can move from vehicle to vehicle without much effort.
Just remember If you plan on using it on a motorcycle or ATV, please, make a water-proof box out of plexiglass or something to keep it dry!
John, N1WOM
CB wpukd benefit alot if FM was introduced don't see why it cannot FM beats AM hands down don't see what harm it would do? In the UK its all modes and FM is most commonly used
Some nations micromanage anything they can for little reason. Some nations even put a talk range restriction on CB. That is ridiculous. An HF CB radio signal can cross a nation with just one watt sometimes. Is the radio propagation going to obey a pointless law? If your radio supports FM and your nation gets anal retentive about utilising it, do not worry about it. Use it anyway with others that will have FM. The deviation of the signal is narrow and does not spread to adjacent channels. Use the FM, even if it is supposed to be illegal in your nation. People also speed in their automobiles. I just went 105 kilometers per hour in a 100 kilometer per hour speed zone.
If you hold one button on power up you can change the mode with fm.
I'm an American and I fully appreciate that European nations have it better in regards to amateur radio. The US has held it's people in the dark ages as far as Amateur radio and out ability to broadcast on different channels in respect to the CB bands. The AM band is a dinosaur! It's about time America got with it and caught up with the rest of the world!
@@todop ... doesn't work with the newest US versions.
@@indridcold8433 ... US has eliminated the distance rule.
Hyeee 🙋♂im delta sierra golf
UK now has AM and SSB legal CB radio! It used to be only FM for awhile, then AM and FM. Now AM/FM DSB and SSB! Very few nations use AM/FM and SSB.
IS doesn't permit FM on CB radio so you are constantly playing with the squelch. Really reduces the usefulness.
United States, not is. Autospell.
@@spaceflight1019 We did not have anything but FM, legally, until two years ago. But we were using it anyway with imported American marketed CBs. FM band is 27. 60125to 27.99125. The new AM/FM/SSB/DSB band is 26.965 to 27.405. Maybe if the Americans get to legalise FM, someday, you might get our FM band like we got your AM/SSB band. It would make sense. It is likely there are Americans still using FM illegally. We used AM/SSB illegally for years before OFCOM finally gave up and admitted defeat.
If you go to www.cbgazette.com they have a nice collection of S9 magazines from the beginning era of CB radio. Various articles detail how American radios found their way around the world. When other countries created their own versions of CB it was during periods of sunspot activity and they avoided the U.S. allocation because of interference.
Up until the 40 channel era, there was a FM business radio allocation between channel 27 and the 10 meter ham band. 50 years ago a VFO and a hot summer night made for a ton of interesting services to listen to. They were high power FM, so we learned how to slope detect them.
Today they're all gone, and the freeband has taken over.
Nobody in western Pennsylvania uses FM on CB. Sidebanders, most of whom are hams, hold court on 36. 90% of the remaining activity is business and trucking. My Bearcat scanner is programmed for CB radio and unless the band opens up it never stops.
Indrid Cold, by the way I like your handle. I live near Pittsburgh, not far from Kittaning, and worked at Elrama Power Station, which is the "chemical plant" featured in the film.
Alas, no SSB.
This would be good for side the offroad guys that think rugged radios rebadged baofengs can be used license free. Personally I'd suggest a Uniden CMX660 Bearcat just because it has NOAA, or the Uniden CMX760 Bearcat for remote mount. Still don't really like the UI on them but when you so tiny you have to give up something. I like the 760 in my side by side because you can easily remove it.
You would be better off with the BTECH Baofengs. They are FCC type accepted and cost less than the Rugged Radio versions, which are nothing more than an over priced, rebranded $39.00 Baofeng. And the Rugged Radios cannot be used legally license free because they are not FCC type accepted, not even on the MURS and FRS bands!
FM is much better more useful range compared to AM
AM wastes a lot of the power on the carrier that has no intelligence at all. FM, all the power goes into the carrier and the carrier has all the intelligence. FM will have a much more effective range. Sometimes, AM sideband intelligence fades and away in long range and the carrier still keeps going. It can be herd as a tone.
im already not a fan of that stupid looking hoop at the top I would instantly remove that and put in a normal mic connector
Nice ad?
Gotta pay the bills somehow.

I threw up a little, but watched it anyway. LOL!!!!!
CB radio is such a waste of time unless you enjoy endless expletives and truck driver pratter.
Where do you reside? Here, SSB is extremely well ran. AM is not vulgar at all but more relaxed. FM, well, that is a very different story. There is where the vulgarity resides.
@@indridcold8433 I reside in licensed amateur radio.
@@radman999 I have a great SDR radio I made out of basic components. It receives 100 kilocycles to 3 gigacycles, all analogue and digital modes. But, unfortunately, most of the public and amateur bands are relatively dead on VHF, UHF and microwave. The business bands are teaming with activity, first responders frequencies are very active, news feeds are somewhat active. I have the good fortune of living close to a military base so aviation and military frequencies are really active. CB, PMR446 and LPR433 are the most active public bands but are merely just active sparsely. It seems the most active amateur band is the 7 megacycle band. It can get rather um, "colourful," at times. But the amateur radio bands above 20 megacycles are very seldom active. There is only marginally more activity below 20 megacycles. Between World Wide Web, low solar indexes, and the grand solar minimum, it is not a very good time to be in a radio hobby. After awhile, it gets a bit boring to listen to the business, aviation, military, and first responders. I would like to hear amateur radio operators revive the frequencies again. Heck, I would like to hear any of the public bands, license required, or no license required, revived by operators again. Legalising SSB on CB helped some, but not much.
@@spaghettibender9893 His region has a bad CB radio mannerism. Perhaps he wanted to see if it was everywhere. Here, AM and SSB are ran really well. FM, well, that is a different story. But FM band is 27.6500 to 27.99125 and has been around a long time. Grouchy old vulgar people seem to pool up there. AM and SSB are 26.965 to 27.405 and is ran very differently than FM. 27.305 USB is really well ran. These are the observations here. Perhaps everyone is old, grouchy, and vulgar on all the CB bands where he resides.
@@spaghettibender9893 Are you talking about the ones that splatter a sweep tube amplifier on the FM band and crosstalk all the channels with a filthy signal that sounds sort of like someone talking in front of a fan at high speed? I hate those guys. It seems FM is where they all collect. I see no harm in getting a tiny bit more power, like 12 watts to match the SSB signal. But those splatter horns are probably running 15,000 watts with the crudest equipment possible and the crudest mouths possible. I hate FM CB.
Japanese CBRadio NO!
All your gonna hear on am is mexicans, english has moved to ssb and the freeband
27.60125 to 27.99125 is the FM sub band. Only FM is used on that sub band.
