I basically love the unit's specs and it suits all of my needs. HOWEVER on another RUclips revew I just learned that because of the number of monitor I/O's this apparently limits the DAW buffer size to max 512. This makes the unit completely useless for me and I cannot crasp what on earth Antelope developers have been thinking... 😞

This is to do with the limit of thunderbolt. If you have 128 I/O, your buffer size can only be 512 max. Watch this space though. I have heard on the grapevine they may have a fix in the works for this, so hang tight!

@@OliverShillito I understand the reason, but it's still a complete no-go for me as I work Pro Tools native and need 1024 buffer size. Hope you are right that they will fix it.....

@jeasperkrll6528 I am 95% confident it’ll be fixed. I mean all they’d need to do in theory is have a driver that limits the I/O to 64 and unlocks 1024. It can’t be that hard to add into the software as an option! Even so, since working on 512 I honestly haven’t noticed any difference in PT. I’m working on an M1 Max Mac Studio but I’ve never hit the buffer so I guess I’ve gotten lucky!

@@OliverShillito Let's hope they will fix it. I am always on 1024 when mixing natively.

@@jeasperkrll6528 Hi there, thinking of buying this, have they fixed this?

I’m not sure if that is true in terms of giving u the outputs. Just re-route where you want your monitors to come out from. I recently did this with the Gen4 also. It wasn’t clear at first but you can do this in the matrix and therefore change antelopes 1-2 to be something else

You can but the issue is, the antelope software forces you to use two of the DAW outputs. Meaning if you are using all 128 channels, you can't use 2 of them as they need to be reserved for monitors. In my case, using 32 ins and outs, it means I can't use 2 of the IO as Hardware Inserts as they need to be reserved for the monitors, so in essence, you're losing 2 outputs. What Antelope need to do is add 2 more DAW outs specifically for the monitors in the software that do not affect the other analogue ins and outs.

How's the sound of Orion gen4 to you?

@@dsmokrovic just as good as the Gen 3. I don’t hear any difference between them really. They are fairly transparent sounding so I guess that is a good thing!

You have 128 channels so I don’t think two is really gonna matter. Why are people making a big deal about this?
