Wouldn't it be about the same? You can still get knocked down in mma and keep fighting. The only thing I can think of for boxing is that the fights are longer, but I'd imagine you can do way more damage with kicks, knees, and elbows anyway.
@@Buckaroo_Banzai47yep your pretty much right, the longer fights is a big part of it. Boxers do tend to throw a lot more strikes than in mma tho. Also yes obviously kicks and elbows do way more damage bit that's the thing if you get kicked in the head you're out, meanwhile look at a tko in boxing, sometimes they might eat 10 or so clean shots quickly in a row and be out on their feet before it's stopped. It's strange and hard to believe bit yeah that's basically why boxers end up with more brain damage than in most other combat sports
@LOLCAMz for sure. The only thing you can do is block and dodge those hits.
@Buckaroo_Banzai47 The thing with light oz gloves and elbows, knees, ect is a higher chance of ko or stoppage. In boxing you can take (hundreds). There are pro boxing fights where more than 1000 punches where thrown by one side. Light jabs for years rattle that brain. MMA has a much faster stoppage. In MMA when you get knocked down that usually spells the end of the fight. In boxing you can be knocked down three times in the space of 2 minutes and still continue
That leads to brain damage over the years
Sometimes tho, theres been plenty of dudes that have taken 5+ knockdowns in an mma fight with no 10 count and they're getting hit on the ground during recovery. Boxing is typically more dangerous long term for the average fight, but depending on the context an mma fight can be MUCH more dangerous.
@@novarupture4582MMA more dangerous interm of skills. Boxing literally gets punched on the head for 30mins and includes knock down with countdown. In statistics, boxing leads to way more brain damage (percentage).
@umar5138 that's why I said potential wise. There were MMA fighters who died too, just not in the UFC
@@timmythetalkingpotato I figured, just never heard of any. Still DC is slightly right. MMA is brutal in its own right! Boxing is brutal in its own as well!
Look at the numbers, bro. Boxing have been out for over 100s of years and includes the worst times. Boxing rules back then, yes, was more dangerous than Mma today, but today, Mma is more dangerous than Boxing today. You all always compare the life of boxers back to mma Fighters now but refused to compare the retired boxers now to retired mma fighters. Lmao, looking at Chuck and Ken Shamrock, Mma isnt very safe. And they haven't even fought long in mma compared to retired boxers too.
@@RaphialLeeYou can compare retired boxers to MMA fighters and they don't stack up well, retired boxers often have some of the worst brain trauma of any fighters. Even Freddie Roach suffers from Parkinsons due to the brain trauma he suffered. Boxers constantly die in the ring. MMA has had 7 deaths in sanctioned bouts in its entire history, boxing has 13 deaths per year.
Also the careers are "shorter" because they fight less often as they don't need to pad their record as much and losses in MMA mean a lot less than they do in boxing. Well then this should be easy
Do you think a flying knee to the face is better than a straight back hand with gloves to the face? Or is a spinning back kick better than hook with 10 oz gloves to the side of your head?
His argument is based on knockdown and count outs, but even he knows that damage happens even when you are on your feet. 5 minute rounds vs. 3 minute rounds means you get a chance to quit on the stool quicker. There are plenty of arguments for both sides
@@chiefnkosi7705 most of the medical experts believe that the quantity of punches to your head is more of a risk factor than the power of those punches. In terms of CTE prevalence, MMA fighters are way behind boxers and NFL players.
Sure, you are far more likely to suffer an injury in the octagon, but after you retire you're also far more likely to live the rest of your life without forgetting your kids names or hallucinating about being abducted by aliens.
@@chiefnkosi7705There aren't "plenty of arguments for both sides" you're just ignorant. In MMA you can win via submissions, leg kicks and lay and pray decisions, all three of which deal no damage to the brain. In boxing you're mostly looking for the knockout. It's pretty obvious that boxing is more damaging to the brain.
@@chiefnkosi7705that's not an argument. There are way way more deaths in boxing than in MMA per year, that should be argument enough that boxing is more dangerous. A knee to the face or a spinning back kick to the face may look dangerous (and is) it'll most likely result in a flush ko if u hit ur opponent right, ending the fight. It's dangerous, but completely not as dangerous as repeated blows to the head over and over again, for 30 minutes to an hour straight. If that was the case, then glory kickboxing or Muay Thai would have more deaths than boxing does, but they don't
The more rounds in boxing, the more dangerous it is.
People forget how hard boxers hit w bigger gloves....
And with smaller gloves too and also elbows are legit like knifes and shins are not fun and when you can punch faster than normally those blows definitely hurt more
Getting hit with smaller gloves is more painful though. Bigger gloves protect the hands but the punches are also cushioned
@@brocksimmons345It’s more painful but less impact. In boxing you’re basically punching with padded dumbells. Basic physics. Getting hit with a motorbike gonna do less damage than a truck.
The fact that there's way more rounds in boxing is proof, but MMA is short bursts of brutality
The proof is the cte scans. Sure there's more rounds and shorter rounds to allow a boxer to get their wits about them a bit in the corner, however there's a lot more stop and starts in boxing due to clinches and not really being able to do anything.
The ref stops the fight in MMA...the ref in boxing have to start the fight
It’s overall pretty close though as mma has longer rounds. Boxing still lasts longer on average per bout. The big reason is glove type and target opportunities. Boxing can only go to head or body. MMA you can win with never throwing a single punch or kick. I think it’s that availability of target choices to play into making mma safer in general
Mma has longer rounds but I still agree with it having more short bursts of brutality
@@megaranger6106 What boxing are you watching buddy? They hit each other like 5 times per round
@wesleylong3279 it's not really close at their best. 5minutes for 5 rounds. - Mma
12 rounds for 3 minutes. - Boxing
Mma total of 25 minutes
Boxing of 36 minutes
That's an 11 minute different of longer fighting and more stamina draining.
On average
Mma - 3rounds 5 minutes = 15 minutes
Boxing - it really depends but it's 10 or less.
Usually goes up to 5 - 10
So that would be 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30
So on average, depending on when it ends it can wither be the same or just be that much longer

It’s absolutely true, and boxing you mostly get hit on the head so concussions way more frequent whereas mma you get hit on the body and choked
100% true. People who've never fought or even just casually trained in either sport are so misinformed to think that MMA is more dangerous than boxing.
Well it's definitely arguable. The only real danger in boxing is the brain damage, and statistics have shown about 20% of boxers end up with CTE. It's kinda hard to just outright say that's more dangerous than a sport that has potential for the exact same levels of brain damage, plus about 10x more physical injuries. In all reality they have the same levels of danger, it all just depends on the context of the fights, cause I've seen plenty of mma dudes take 5+ knockdowns without the 10 count and are taking strikes during recovery on the ground, same shit as boxing.
Boxing LOOKS safer. MMA has scary looking KO’s. Any head contact is dangerous, consistent taps to the head is progressive:
@@novarupture4582no disrespect to you man but it’s not arguable at all dawg. 1stly MMA is a shorter fight with less head contact. A boxing match is almost double the length of an MMA fight. 2ndly boxing has over the waist contact and a majority of that is aimed directly at the head in MMA they have other parts to hit. 3rdly MMA is wrestling and submissions so you can lose a fight without any head contact. 4th MMA gloves are much smaller than boxing gloves so the surface area a boxing glove hits is smaller than the space an MMA glove can hit. Bodily injuries are easily recoverable and have less long term impact, there is no recovery to the head trauma boxing does. Every year professional boxers die in the ring at an average of 13 a year, MMA is less than 3 a year.
It's safer because it's MADE that way. MMA is more dangerous overall. Imagine if it had the same rule set as boxing. "OH, you got elbowed and knocked down? Well get the fuck up, the match is not over." It's legit not that hard to understand that rules make it safer, not the style in itself.

@@mx3x3m that's kind of a perfect take on it
@@mx3x3mprobably should look up the statistics first before you comment lol
This is correct, it's a mixture of reasons, an often overlooked one is that boxing has very limited striking surfaces, no leg kicks, no knees to the body from a clinch, no throws or trips or submissions... Most shots are thrown to the head, it's the prime target and takes the brunt of all the trauma. Also boxing gloves are so padded out you are able to punch incredibly hard without as much risk of breaking your hand, all the padding also makes cuts less lieky so the bout is less lieky to be stopped for bad cuts that would happen with bare knuckles or much thinner gloves.
Bare knuckle boxing is statistically safer than boxing due to the fact fights are stopped more often for bleeding stopping the guy just getting his brain constantly rattled also fighters have to pick their shots and how hard they throw them to which targets.... You're a lot more careful looking for that knockout blow when hitting a couple of inches too high will result in you shattering your bare/only wrapped hand on your opponents skull.

One of the best, talking about the sport I did for 13 years...from ages 5 to 18 I boxed.....you truly have to be a different breed to step in that square
Why did you stop.
Not only that, boxing gloves are heavier and regardless if you think they are “softer” you’re being hit with an additional 4-8oz over the course of 12 rounds, that all matters. Length of fights, damage over time, and continuing to fight while concussed.
I agree , also theres about 6oz of sweat in the big gloves too !
Its also easier to parry, evade or block them.
Btw incase you guys missed physics in school, the power will spread across much bigger area in boxing gloves compared to much smaller mma gloves.
How about elbow to the head ? Or a knee?
Those pads are only to protect the skin on your face. But, than same pad actually amplyfies the impact of the punch.
Gloves only makes your fist safer from the punches you make and it doesn't makes your enemy safer from your punches😂
@@masscrossoutgetting hit by a truck is much worse than a motorcycle. It’s a similar thing here. You don’t know how blunt force trauma works

So true. Even tough I got my worst injury in MMA (busted knee), I have not been concussed in MMA remotely as often as in boxing and I have to add that I have an iron chin, never even got knocked down. But at night I just got dizzy so many times. Concussion after concussion. You often dont even think about it, just going about your day with a mild concussion. Imagine competing in MMA with kicking, knees, elbows and on the ground? I have so much respect for MMA fighters for that reason.
I've boxed longer (barely) and I completely agree with this post bc I've done the research before and there's been less than 30 deaths in total in mma.... Idk if you've ever looked up how many people have died in the boxing ring but even when you take into consideration boxing being around longer and do the average per year, boxing doubles it so you can't let your assumptions blind you with bias. Mma might be scarier to you but that doesn't make it more dangerous 🤷boxing averages about 10 deaths a year lmao it's not something to brag about but in my opinion saying mma is more dangerous just bc it sounds more dangerous is kinda goofy
Well, well, well, looks like both boxing and MMA are in quite the knockout competition when it comes to fatalities and injuries. While boxing may have a longer history with a higher overall number of deaths, MMA seems to be giving it a run for its money with a lower total death count. But hold on tight, because when we shift our focus to sustained injuries, MMA takes the spotlight with higher numbers compared to boxing. That’s all I’m saying.
@@chaytonhotah1544 in terms of injuries?
