- Mando which originated in Goa is an event of music, song and dance, which was traditionally hosted by the elite and aristocratic families of those days celebrating a festive occasion. Dulpods then proceeded the Mando.
The Dressing plays a huge role in the Mando. The male performers, who formerly used to wear a cabai - a knee-length loose white top - later took to wearing a formal, European-style, 3-piece suit(Showing Portuguese influence). But the women’s 2-piece attire, a short embroidered top (bazu) worn over a sarong-type, ankle-length skirt (torhop) with a folded scarf or shawl (tuvalo) thrown over one shoulder has undoubtedly been fashioned after the garments worn by women across East Asia, particularly in regions that once formed a part of Portuguese Asia such as Malaysia, Timor and Macau, and also other countries like Thailand, Singapore, Laos and Myanmar. The ceremonial torhop-baz worn during the mando dance was of velvet or silk, red, blue or green in colour, embroidered with gold (rarely with silver) threads. A white or blue shawl was worn. The socks had to be white and the slippers ornamented. This was all graced with a fan, which enhanced the lady’s mood with a secret charm during the dance
The instruments put in the charm to a Mando.Portuguese-introduced instruments like the rebec (violin), piano, and mandolin, and nowadays even the box guitar, are often used as accompaniments for Goan music including the mando. But it is the beats of the Goan ghumot, a traditional percussion instrument, that provide the rhythm for any mando and adds to it that local flavor and vitality. The ghumot is actually a mud pot ingeniously transformed into a musical instrument. It has a wide opening at one end traditionally covered with the tightly stretched skin of the monitor lizard, and a narrower one that is uncovered. The ghumot is like a heart to a mando and is also declared as the State Instrument in Goa.
ABOUT THE GROUP
Goychim Lharam was established in the year 2016 under the leadership of Floscy Gracias, with the objective of promoting and sustaining Goan Culture. We strive to nurture Goan culture and bring to stage the aspects of Goan Culture which are slowly taking backstage and tapping local talents and being ambassadors of culture to the Global Goan Diaspora in particular and the world at large.
Sneak Peak
This mando video tries to depict the actual gatherings that happened in Aristocratic or elite families on occasions of festival or engagements or weddings during the Portuguese era.
About the MANDO
This mando is based on the daily encounters of two people over a period of time which gradually end up them falling in love with each other. Subsequently vows are made to spend the rest of their lives with each other with the promise or plans to give all of one to the other, living life with romance filled adventures.
About the DULPODS
These Dulpods are based on scenarios during elections, the fast foods that are slowly replacing home cooked traditional delicacies, etc.
A mention is made about the recent anxiety caused due to adulteration in fish which is a staple food of Goa.
MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM
We as Goans should strive to promote and make a place of prominence for this fading culture of Goa. Government and organizers should undertake responsibly the task of reviving and maintaining the fading culture and involve citizens to uphold their traditions by providing suitable platforms in addition to the current existing festivals. A sense of belongingness ought to prevail among the younger generation towards the culture and tradition of our mother land.
As a portuguese, I feel honoured to see that indo-portuguese culture still exists in India. Bless you all.

Bless youll ❤❤❤
Thanks Veronica!
Love and appreciate this music and singing now but when young we used to deride it by calling it an LP and fleeing from the scene, because
1 It was the same tone which became monotonous.
2. It was always long.
The woman's Konkani accent should have been improved. Unless she has a speech impediment. Bad. It is important to have the correct diction when singing Konkani songs.
The woman's Konkani accent is is faulty. I don't know why she is 'anglasizing' Konkani. Very disappointing. She turned a beautiful Mando into rubbish. Someone should have picked it up and brought it to her attention. This comment comes from an authentic Goan.
