Lovely seeing the family of Coot's, and many people will be surprised that they are not Ducks. They are in the Rail family (Rallidae) and are only distantly related to Ducks. (Some great shots of their feet that are not webbed). Another piece of useless information from Edward Griffin, ha ha. :-)

It's an amazing feeling to find an object or artifact and to know you are the first to expose it to sunlight. The first sunlight it has "seen" for hundreds to thousands of years.
I love that tea mug and the Coty compact. Good job you recognized that the grenade was not exploded and notified the officials quickly. That was not a tiny pop.

I still find it amazing that with the amount of rocks & stones on the foreshore that things as delicate as pipes & pottery stays intact , wish my history lessons were this interesting when I was at school I might have studied harder . My father couldn't be drafted for WWII because he had rheumatic fever just prior to getting the draft notice and it left him with a heart murmur. He did work as a contractor for the U.S. government helping to rebuild the airfields on Oahu, HI. He saved the Honolulu newspaper with the headline that the Japanese surrendered. I still have it. The grass skirt bit the dust a few decades ago.
Absolutely loved this episode! I always feel a little tug on the heartstrings when I hear any mention of the Blitz or V.E. day. My Mother was a London girl from West Ham and was in the A.T.S. during the war. She drove an Ambulance and I remember her stories of the bombing of the London docks and other locations. One story was about a sugar refinery or warehouse that was hit and the poor souls there were covered in burning sugar! On V.E. day, she was driving an ambulance and got caught in the throngs of happy people from Piccadilly Circus to Trafalgar Square!

Finding the mug intact was fantastic, it's nice to have an historic cuppa, when I lived in Devon some years back a local secondhand shop had a lot of ex-prison crockery all marked with the HMP mark, I bought a dozen pint tea mugs from them to give to friends as gifts, the oldest of those was 1938 and purportedly came from HMP Dartmoor. If you get caught with the government pen, you could be transported to Australia!!
Nicky - I'm from Texas and grew up in a place called White Settlement! It's a suburb of Fort Worth. When Ft. Worth was an army outpost back in the 1850s, it was a settlement among a few other indian settlements so it was called the White Settlement and the name just stuck.
