- Let´s get this Pendant Motor running!
Got some money left! Let´s buy this Foredom SR and see what we can do with this pendant motor.
In this video I share my experience as a beginner in silversmithing and opal jewelry making. I take you with me on the journey from outboxing, installment and finally on some work steps, forming, stonesetting and polishing.
Maybe you heard of this Fordeom SR flexshaft pendant motor, which is a highly recommended tool for making jewelry. You may find it is a quiet expensive rotary tool but at some points you may also think a dremel tool or something else will not do „the job“. In my case I recognized, that the dremel is not powerfull enough to grind away metal or to polish with a constant speed. Also think for opal cutting I need a high quality pendant motor to get the best result. Anyway, I bought this Foredom SR with flexshaft and this nice quick release handpiece to upgrade my small home workspace.
As always i try to add some more serious informations in this description:
Safety first:
- Wear eye protection and mask (best advise is a respirator and not a mask like I use)
Foredom SR Pendant motor:
- The Fordeom SR is very heavy, so pay attention, that you fix it correctly. A motor hanger should be your first choice, otherwise you can hang it with a hook on the wall like I did. Works very well but use large srews to fix the hook!
- The pendant motor can „jump“ a bit when you turn it on with the footpanel, so also take care, that it cannot „jump“ from the hook like a fish… or whatever :D
- The Foredom SR has a forward and reverse rotation direction. NEVER NEVER NEVER change the direction while the motor is running. That can destroy this expensive pendant motor.
- The Motor needs enough space around itself, because the motor will heat up a bit and you don´t want to risk overheating it.
- Take care of the Foredom also in future, cause you have to clean it sometimes from dust and after 50hours of working/running time you have to lubricate the shaft with the lubricationpaste that should be included in all the Foredom SR kits
- NEVER put the Motor direct on the electricity. You must have a speedcontrol between the Pendant motor and the socket.
Foredom foot panel speed control:
- The Foredom SR comes regularly with this foot panel speed control which is very sensitive. Before get startet on complicated jewelry projects, you want to get a feeling to control the speed of your rotary tool.
- With the foot panel you should be able to do the jewelry making jobs. If you need a constant speed like for stone cutting it seems not be possible to have a good control. Check out, if you need an extra speed control, like i show in the video.
- That low budget installment I built is not recommended but may help you out, if are on low budget like I am. It´s just not save, because there´s not a possibility to stop the rotation quickly…so this is on own risk ;)
Foredom quick release Handpiece H20 (for jewelry making):
- Connect it tot he shaft correctly. In the owners manual you´ll find the right way to do this. I really cannot explain how to do this :D
- Be sure to buy the right hand piece. Foredom has so many of them and you should inform yourself before buying the wrong one. In my case I wanted this quick release system for jewelry making.
- The Foredom handpiece H.20 is for use ONLY with 3/32″ (2.35mm) shank burs.
Fordeom jewelers accessory assortment kit
- The organizer is very nice to…organize all your jewelry rotary burs
- Help me out to use all of these jewelers accessories :D
- You better search for serious informations on the foredom product videos ;)
I share all my experience, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I try to give you some serious informations, if i can :D
And I like to put the link here to get to the flex shaft tools:

There you should also find some good videos to nearly all products. Watched a couple of them and found them quiet informative.

Thanks for watching guys!!! Leave a like, comment, sub pls! Appreciate your support! 🙏🙏🙏
@opal badger
Great cat interruptions!!!
I'm confused why you were drilling without water for keeping the bits from getting hot (which can then cause cracks in the stones)?
But, I DID enjoy and appreciate the video
You have honestly given me hope not only for lapidary and gem cutting possibilities but knowing that someone else out there can spend an entire day making up characters and laugh even when alone is so exciting for me because ive been so isolated or watered down. Thank you!❤
Thank you so much for these words 🙏! That is making me very happy! Go on, have fun and enjoy the wonderful world of gemstones
Really liked your video, especially the pedal solution, great stuff!!
File, sand, and polish your setting before setting a soft stone like an opal. If you slip, you will scratch the stone. Setting the stone should be the very last step. I hope this is helpful. I know not everyone gets the chance to take classes. Also, if you are using metal polishing compound on a hydrophane (usually Ethiopian) opal, there are high chances that the oils in the compound will oxidize and make the opal turn yellow over time.
Thanks. That brightened up my day.
Thanks for your words!! Appreciate that a lot!!! 🙃
Great results mister! Keep it going
Thanks mister!!!!! More stupid ideas are already in my mind 😉
Great stuff m8
Thank you Samuel!! Great to read your comment! 🙃 🙏

Happy, that you like it!! Always sitting here and ask myself, if I can put this or this or maybe more cats at some parts of the video. When it works and the video makes people laughing, I am very very happy 😊
That dog snarled at you before you pat it lol. This video was very creative.

Thank you Sara! I'm happy it made you feel like that 😊
Wunderbar! Ich hoffe, dass ich eines Tages einen Foredom bekommen kann.
Thanks for watching Roy! Means really a lot to me! May the Foredom also be with you 😉
Please post a link to the level with the vices you used on the pedal or what they are called. I have the SAME issue with my prodigy pedal which is exactly the same as that pedal, and using some kind of vice like you did was my theoretical solution, but I've never seen anything like these.
For the 100 or 120 I paid for the prodigy, it is quite DECENT except for the lack of speed control and I have thought about buying a foredom pedal for it, but I'd rather not do that after seeing this video.
I love ❤️ 😍 your video l need this drill for my jewellery
Lol you! Thanks. Yay flexshaft!🎉 Next upgrade could be a speed regulator for it😉. Then a hammer handpiece.
Yay!!! 🙃 Need that speedcontrol! If I had the money for all the nice stuff, I would buy really everything 😅
Bester schlangen beschwörer :)
Danke Henno! Bester Zuschauer 🙏
Also, check out videos on how to flush set so you can learn to hold the tool in a way that gives you more control. You should have your thumbs locked or a finger on the piece to stabilize. If I could remember which video it is, I would just tell you, but I am almost certain it was on a flush setting video, perhaps by estona. If I come across it again, I will post it for you.
Bueno Camino!
Thank you my friend 🤩
Mit den Worten des großen Borat: very nice, very nice. I like it !
😂 😂 😂
Looks like a nice tool wich reqires a bit of skill to handle. Would like to see your improvements with this machine. Mushroom Mushroom
Jewelry crafting lvl200 is the goal 😅
I just got mine ordered a blue one and got the red one ? Do you know the difference because ,I don't want to find out if its the wrong one ? Thank you !
Hey Oleg! I can't help you out here, cause I really don't know about any difference between them. Was asking myself the same question. I'm sorry
@@opalbadger9367 Blue is rated to work on the 115 v like on the USA electricity usage system, and Red is working on 230 v for UK type of Electricity usage

@@tommytitmouse thanks for this! 🙃 🙏 Think few more guys won't know the difference, when they just see the color 😅. It's like the blue and the red pill in the Movie Matrix you know 😄😄
@@opalbadger9367 No problem , just happy to help because it could be a costly mistake if the wrong voltage is purchased ,so I made an extra effort to find why there were two colours ,and that's what Foredom tell you in the technical info so I didn`t end up blowing my head off my shoulders. LoL
I didn’t get the Foredom magazine!
That's a cheekiness 😅, everybody should get the same stuff. In my case I didn't get an original foredom box. And the handpiece looked, like it was used before. But anyway, a great machine, that I never want to miss for jewelry making
@@opalbadger9367 I will be setting it up and trying it out today.
😂😂😂😂😂 What is wrong with you, WTF... I've had to restart the video so many times to rewatch the intro 😂😂😂😂😂.
There is NO Excuse for the foredom foot pedal to be like that. My cheap flex shaft has a crappy pedal like that, and the foredom pedal my jewelry teacher had was not a crappy piece of plastic like that. You have NO CONTROL on pedals with play in them. Make them send you a new one. If that one sucks, make them send you another new one.
Hey Andrea! 🙃
First of all: thank you thousand times for taking all the time to give me these informations about things I propably would learn in a hard way in worst case with risking my health 😣😣😣. I don't know where to start with answering but will do this. Right now I'm a bit busi with private life so when I get back to work I will definitely give much attention to your hints and Tipps! Again big thank you for watching my videos and all the comments ❤️❤️❤️
Shocking review. Fail
