fun fact! they did reveal that they are going to keep doing larger updates, its just that they'll be more spread out and will release every 2-3 years amidst the new game drops.
I think it'd be super cool if for this upcoming drop, they add like a biome and creature. Maybe something called the Pale Gardens, and a spooky mob called like the Creaking. Could be cool I think.
One of the bigger concerns that comes with "game drops" is mod development. Modders are going to have a hard time trying to keep up with so many updates and will be forced to make theirs mods compatible with much more versions then before.
I don’t think we need to worry about the new dimension thing for a while, as Mojang stated they won’t be making any more dimensions until they’re happy with the current ones. And with the amount of people going on and on about an end update, which probably won’t be happening for a little while, I doubt that we’ll be getting a new dimension for a long time
I think Mojang are doing something great with these small content drops alongside bigger updates because we get more features more often and instead of the brand new big update hype dying a month after release, we can get tinier updates with more features to be excited for
There was no problem with the long one update a year development cycle, it was just that recent updates just aren't as ground breaking as the ones before. I remember spending weeks having fun with the nether update meanwhile I quickly got done checking out the trial chambers after a week. Also I would rather wait for one large surprise than to have it drip feed over multiple months. Best comparison to make is with Christmas morning. It's more fun and satisfying to wait for one big surprise than to have them all be given to you all the way up to the final day, it's just not the same.
In my opinion, I think the larger themed updates are more fitting for Minecraft. Think of it, every year, Mojang choosing one aspect of Minecraft that needs to be expanded on, and dedicating their efforts to it. And they’ve done this in several great updates already, revamping the oceans, villages, nether, caves, and terrain. And I do feel it’d be a little awkward to try and update the remaining aspects of the game in smaller updates, most obvious one being the End. Though, I do like your interpretation of the game drops, they could be a great way to add small features and changes that don’t necessarily fit a theme but would improve the game nonetheless. And I do agree that game drops could be beneficial for gradually improving structures and mob animations. So yeah, seeing a mix of small game drops between the big themed updates is something I think would work well, getting the best from both worlds
Personally I’m just hyped for a new wood type because this is a color I’ve been waiting for. Truthfully I really want a grey wood rather than white but I’m still quite happy for this.
I’m so glad smaller and more frequent updates will fill in the gaps between the big massive updates. It just makes so much sense to polish the game first and THEN add something new
good video! although i think drops will be able to work with any update even a new dimension they could slowly flesh it out over time like make it like the old nether and slowly add more biomes and mobs overtime like the nether update snapshots
also they did say the drops would "vary in size" so they could potentially work on a big drop while they release others what i like about this is an issue i had with the yearly updates is they had to focus a lot of development into matching the update theme so they couldn't make small changes like an inventory revamp or anything
i do feel for independent minecraft creators tho i wish mojang could find a way to update the game without breaking everything (blame notch's spaghetti code)
Fun fact: theyre not jus releasing game drops but releasing game dropw in between big updates to lead up to another big update its so they can keep us entertained throughout the whole year
When I heard they’d be doing drops I always assumed the drops would be a way to add in features that won’t tie into the “main” update. Previously when we’ve had updates it’s limited them to making sure everything in the update is somehow connected to the main update and then we get like one or two features that are less related to the update.
Hey man, you run an underrated minecraft-related channel and your "Every Minecraft X Ever" videos went suprisingly good, but unfortunely I do have a problem with Mojang's new game drop system and an amount of bite-sized content for small updates should've work just fine for returning players yet.
i have an idea for a game drop, The game drop would be focused on the dragon fight, first, it would be to hit the end cyrstals, this would happen by 1. there would be a change to the top of the pillars makeing it hitible only from larger ranges and 2. the crystals would shoot a beam that would instead hurt the player if the dragons at full health. The dragon itself would also dive-bomb the player doing massive amounts of damage. There would also be end city ship-wrecks. Also the dragon will fly away from the fountain if it is bombed by beds.
Big updates were necessary for Minecraft’s upkeep. There are 2 types of players: players who love Minecraft, and players who just like Minecraft and check it out when new things come. They need to appease the casual audience to bring back their player base majority.
they said size would vary, i think drops have the potential to be even bigger than the updates we're used to, im not gonna beg for it, a nether update sized expansion to the end is perfect for me, they could maybe even add another biome later if they get an good idea,
I'm worried by other thing than you. Look at trial chambers and think how extremely they have changed from Minecon 2023 to June 2024. During the whole year, the idea of chambers was de facto completely reworked from funny structure to combat with friends to gigantic dungeon with two levels of difficulty, special loot, mobs, etc. I mean, now, due to often updates, they will have much less time to polished ideas, and the game can get a lot of not very well thought out content. Knowing Mojang, they will not be keen to change freshly added new content drastically like they have never added stone chests to ancient cities (unfortunately). I wish Mojang would change their policy and let developers focuse more over reworking of old content because some things were great 10 years ago, but now they aren't. Wolfs' variants are a great example of how to refresh old content. They should also add more from spinoff games because they are mines of great ideas even if games itself didn't get success.
The drops aren’t gonna have features as massive and complex as the trial chambers. They’ll just be able to add quality of life features, progression fixes, and things like biomes and mobs that don’t need a whole lot of work to tweak. So I don’t really see an issue
I think the rest of the game definitely needs fixing (ahem enchanting and trading) before the endgame is considered. These drops allow them to take more time to think on an end update while still releasing new content in the meantime, I think it’s perfect
I think This should be the pattern they should go with [In my opinion] Mini update, Mini update,Big update And then do some mi I updates With the last big update or add simple changes
