  • If you're having the same problem - remove your lower arm, take a tooth brush and a cup of vinegar, dip the tooth brush in the vinegar and scrub out the nozzle that the lower arm attaches to. There's an orange ball in there that acts as the valve actuator to send water to the upper arm - it gets stuck from sticky gunk buildup in the valve/tube.
    I originally uploaded this video to share it to get some help solving the problem. I figured out the what the problem was and need to upload a another video sharing the solution, but until I do, hopefully the text above will help solve your problem - use some vinegar and a tooth brush to clean out the valve.
    My journey to figure out this solutions involved a couple trips to the hardware store, buying a new pump, water filter, and finally calling the repairman - who didn't figure out the problem until I cleaned out the valve for him.

    Wow! It worked. I’ve been putting off calling a repair person for longer than I am willing to admit and it was such a simple fix. THANK YOU for posting!!!

    Thanks @deeguh and @TacticalHVAC for the comments..... been meaning to post an updated video of what I figured out was wrong with it: the diverter valve has an orange ball in it that was getting stuck. I dropped $90 to have the repair tech come out who said the filter was dirty. He cleaned it, stuck it back in, and gave it a shot. Having the gopro in the dishwater and being able to view it on my phone in real time was good so i could show the repair tech it wasn't a dirty filter. I changed the motor and water filter before having the tech come out so I knew it wasn't those. I even removed the diverter valve to see if the orange ball in it was something my kids stuck in there.... but after seeing the ball stuck on top of the valve, i realized what was going on - stuck a toothbrush in the valve with some vinegar and scrubbed it out.

      Wow, thank you for this knowledge. The same problem.. lower arm and upper arm not spinning. I added about 8 cups of hot water and the sprayer arms began to spin. I’m not sure which “orange ball” you are talking about nor what a “diverter valve” is but I will try a 2 cup cleaning vinegar plus 1 cup baking soda wash and see if that solves the problem. . . I’ll send a report after that.

    I had the same problem. Just a difference: the actuator is a round piece that's rotating through each tube. It was stuck because of some food residual. Open the tube and clean it. 5 minutes work.

      I am trying to access those tubes. Can you share how you got to them? I got the lower arm off, and flushed what I saw with vinegar (no clogs in the arm). I removed 3 screws around the lower assembly, but could not work out how to access the tubing itself. (Didn't want to 'try' too hard, as I don't want to cause more harm than good).

      the tubes are what the lower arm attaches to. All you have to do is use a toothbrush to clean them out.

    Hello. Great footage. I had some massive backup into the washer and had to take pipes out to clean the gunk out . After re-fitting them I have similar issue that the arm does not seem to spin. I can check the diverted value but can you share how to do it . Is it possible without removing the dishwasher ?

    Hey Garret, thanks for the video. I have a very similar looking dishwasher - I believe mine is model GDF540HGDBB. My problem is that the mid and upper arms are not spinning. Did you ever solve this issue? Thanks in advance!

    Where is the diverter valve???

      @GarettMcDermid  8 месяцев назад

      Hey Larry, sorry for the delayed response. I guess I should enable comment notifications. Hopefully you found the valve, but in case anyone else has the same question, if you take off the bottom spray arm, it's directly below that.

    Looks to me like either a clog or the diverter motor is shot that would do it.

    • @GarettMcDermid
      @GarettMcDermid  4 года назад

      Thanks for the comment..... you are partly right. there isn't a diverter motor on this model, but the diverter valve has an orange ball in it that was getting stuck. Some vinegar and a tooth brush down the valve pipe did the job.

    • @dgerlach646
      @dgerlach646 Год назад

      @@GarettMcDermid How do you access the valve pipe? I was able to remove the lower spinner arm. I dropped in the entire contents of vinegar. But after removing 3 screws total, I can't seem to work out how do access the tubing. Not sure if I am focusing on the right area.

      Tooth brush down the tube
