I'm glad you brought up how bad legendary primaries were and how we basically had Handcannons(among other things) be flat out awful since changes done in late 2019/Shadowkeep launch. Not surprised Bungie decided to cool down exotic primaries against red bars given how advantageous they were.
Even still with the 20% buff to red bars back in season of The witch, hand cannons especially legendary ones still feel like they could have a little bit more juice. Try running a legendary hand cannon with no surge or no overcharge in a legend lost sector with solo operative (15% buff), then try running without solo operative and you'll see that a 15% buff would put them in a bit better of a spot. They are pretty good against orange bars but once you get into under light activities, hand cannons still struggle. Pulses are getting a huge buff and they will probably rain supreme over hand cannons because they are going to do more damage than hand cannons and have more range
bungie : we nerfed how double special works to encourage people to play with primaries bungie the next day : *adds new tracerifles and rocket sidearms*
Double specials do still provide on average more heavy than a primary ammo loadout. Maybe not more than an ammo finder exotic primary but it’s about the same. It’s due to the ammo phase system. You can only get an ammo phase if you aren’t currently using the weapon. For example, you cannot get a heavy ammo phase when you use a heavy and you can’t get a special ammo phase with a special weapon out. This means that when you use a primary weapon you have the potential to either get a heavy or special ammo phase. But when you use double specials you will generally only ever get heavy ammo phases. It’s a simplification of the system but just know that you do still get an increased number of heavy ammo drops than primary loadouts but just not more than ammo finders. But that doesn’t matter because one normal brick equates to 2-3 ammo finder bricks.
Indebted kindness is like baby xenophage. Not best in slot for ad clear, not best in slot for single target burst, but it's very serviceable for both roles. And y'know... it has that crazy ammo economy
Enjoy it while it last. While I like to burn my Exotic slot for Buried Bloodline, special Sidearms will eventually get nerfed when more come out with stronger perks. Glad the team likes how they are, so it will be a bit!

Got into an argument with one of them over Cold Comfort 😂 When TFS drops, if one of those rocket sidearms aren’t attached to a dungeon and are more easily accessible, the game will do all the work for me. Till then, I’m gonna work em.
Can’t believe double special was nerfed so long ago. I get it was broken in terms of how much heavy you got but trace rifles were and still aren’t that good for add clear imo.
@@segue5104Yes it does. That’s how finders work. However, rocket frame sidearms are bugged right now, and they register as a primary weapon. So for the time being, finders do actually work with the rocket sidearma
