He should be a starter, when 1 arm gets worn out he has the other
That was my exact thought he has two pitch counts going but also what a weapon in the bullpen how many guys r strictly brought in to face particular batters this guy fits two roles
They posted the rules in the video man. It's an at bat basis, so each batter the pitcher can switch but must stay with that throwing arm the entire at bat.
+Toolman329 i bet you you are wrong
Or he can be like two different starting pitchers. He pitches with his right hand one day and his left the other day. He would be twice as valuable as any starting pitcher
That being said, if solely based on this video clip, neither arm's fastball is actually in the high 90s and was getting hit a lot. He would be much better serving as a team's cooler where he comes in, and able to pitch to the worse side of the batter.
Switch pitcher vs switch hitter. When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object
This comment so slept on 😭😂🦇
Lol
2: 40 mark of this video : ruclips.net/video/5CNM-gsOuJE/видео.html
Technically they would be movable because they would move to the opposite of the pitcher
But the ruling gives the last word and the advantage to the switch hitter. To be fair should be that in even innings switch hitter should have to declare first which way he will be batting (and not be able to change during the at bat ) but on odd innings the pitcher must make the first declaration of which arm he will be using to pitch to the batter for the whole at bat. This gives the Switch hitting batter the advantage most of the time (1,3,5,7,9) and the switch pitcher the advantage sometimes but a bit less (2,4,6,8). As it should be.
it is absolutley mind blowing that he can throw with both arms.
Yeah but I bet he can't throw with his legs
Not only throw but pitch in the mlb!
Seriously, great pitcher. I'm a lefty with half of what i can do, the rest is history. I love being a bit different. He's a GREAT pitcher.
@@franksmith7419 Yeah but he can't throw with his feet. That's a bummer
Im not really into baseball, how common is it for someone to make their mlb debut at 29. How many years do most spend in the minors?
Instructions unclear. Tommy John surgery needed on both arms. It's gonna be a lonely summer.

He can just ask his mom if he can't use his arms.

That's pretty impressive. I'm always impressed with ambidextrous people because i can't do shit with my left hand.

Really I don't want to be jealous of me jk
I got good with my left cause I broke my right hand and had to choke the chicken somehow. Twice btw lol....tough times
I'm sure you can do one thing
Probably since you reached puberty you've been doing one thing. 😆
I remember seeing a special on this guy many years ago when he was in college. They said something along the lines of he would have to pick an arm to use all the time if he wanted to make it as a professional. Looks like he proved them wrong! The crazy thing is I was wondering just a month or so ago if he ever made it...good work, Pat!

Still one of the most unique players ever!
I got a chance to see Pat pitch in Triple A ball for the Nashville Sounds. I’ve been to thousands of games in my life and I felt so privileged that day. Regardless of his pro career, he’s a legend.
Agree.
@@slapyoazzniggah-no8qr He forced MLB to clarify the situation. They named the rule after him. There will be more pitchers like him, and he set the precedent. He was not just unique but necessary. You’re being a total drag here.
This is the coolest thing i’ve seen all Quarantine
i thought me being a switch hitter in my 10&U was dope
The cooler thing is using correct grammar, capitalization and punctuation.

Mike Masters he’s back in triple a unfortunately
I watched him pitch in Brooklyn when the Staten Island Yankees played the Cyclones.

Ken Brett, older brother of George Brett, could switch pitch, but didn't think he had major league quality from the left side so he threw right handed his entire career. George could throw left handed also, but since he played third base, he spend his career right handed also. I did an interview with George in 1975 in which he explained it to me.
if he ever played first base he could play lefty. it's a slight advantage
Moose is the same way.
That is just plain crazy. Not impossible, but CRAZY.
I kind of miss Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire, from the newer videos posted.

Well rn he is playing every other day for the Jays
He's in the Phillies org now but probably done. He's 32 now and after some injuries he hasn't gotten much opportunity since the year of this video (2015). Too old and too slow of a fastball to last in MLB.
He could go out, pitch a full game righty, than the next day a full lefty.
Would be awesome in postseason if he was an ace. Hell you could have a 4 man rotation the whole season.
He don’t throw hard enough for that
@Amp Blaster a world of blind sarcasm and wit......oh no!

Did mommy not love you enough?
Just amazing. My dad grew up in bklyn in the 50s and was a yankee and mantle fan. When i was born in 59 and we started playing ball when i was about 4 yrs old he made me a switch hitter like the mick. Still am today at 62, but now im a switch golfer. When i was about ten, around 1968 on little league i started throwing with my right arm. I was getting pretty good at it, but i hurt my shoulder pretty had so i quit doing it. It is incredibly difficult to do unless you start doing it at five years old. Switch hitting is much easier than switch throwing. Kudos to venditte. Just for making the big leagues is hard enuff, but a major league switch pitcher? Wow
People might think it's gimmicky but I hope he does well and turns out to be an ace in the future.
Nope he sucks
Average speed, super gimmicky, inconvenient to everyone
Its huge advantage to be able to switch from left hand to right hand. Can throw a lot of batters off. He's good.
Absolutely, quite talented, probably drove the coaches nuts. Hehe, IMA lefty in some things. Gods has a sense of humor.
ShadowBaofu he is in triple A now lmao
I hit 86mph right-handed back when I was 19, but couldn't get signed by a pro team, so I taught myself to throw left-handed too. It took about 2 years of constant practice but I finally got to the point of being consistently accurate in the low 80's. I never did make a pro roster, so I'm happy to see Venditte make the majors, and with the same velocity. And I can tell you, learning to use your opposite hand has the added benefit of making new connections in your brain between the left and right side.
Good luck to you sir! Hope you make it to the majors!
Jason Williamson Same here! im ambidextrous, play on a park league and have Venditte's custom glove from Mizuno, i can hit 90 tops with my right, but only 80 with my left. I never wanted to go pro, i wanted to become a biologist which i am currently doing, but i occasionally wonder what could have been haha
Irony is. ...the 2 years you spent learning to throw with the opposite hand probably would have gained you 5mph if focused on your right. Gimmicks are garbage, glad he made it; but all he really does is save them from using lowly specialists. His stuff doesn't look good enough to stay consistent in the majors.
Lefty*
When you learn from a young age to throw with both hands you don't lose out on anything else, Marik 444, its just a more disciplined development process. It's like multilingual people like myself.
I was taught Spanish, Italian, and English and I speak all pretty fluently. It's not like my English is less efficient just cause I was busy learning the other two.
When I started teaching myself left handed I remember going out at the age of 9 & playing/training with my right like everyone else..but at the end of the day I'd spend at least an extra hour just playing catch with my left with my friend to end the day. Once I learned how to throw properly by the time i was 12 it was time to learn detailed mechanics with my left...I would simply spend an extra hour or two per day practising with my friend or uncle (my trainer) than everyone else did. I never lost out on things with my right hand.
That final pitch was beautiful 👌
I remember watching him pitch in Omaha against my brothers team. Pretty impressive.
Thats incredible. Some people are just amazing.
~The Red Sox had a pitcher Greg Harris back in the 90's who could pitch lefty as well as righty, but his manager wouldn't let him try it in a game. Glad someone finally got to do it.
He did do it, but it might have only been a spring training game.
It blows my mind why people give things like this a thumbs down.... Jealousy? I just don't get it. Why would you NOT BE IMPRESSED? Such dedication!!!
What? Nobody did that….
this is absolutely insane, mind-blowing, I don't even know what to say next. just wow.
Its stuff like this that makes you respect mlb talent!
This is really incredible what he’s doing. I give you props! Even the glove he’s using is amazing.
They should add him in MLB 15 The Show! :D
I would want him on my DD team.
Aidan Bailey Yea, me too, and make everyone mad :D
They will but I don't think they will add the switch pitcher option til next yeah if they do at all.
Peter Donkey-Doo they already added him and yes they have him as a s/p
Marc Rodriguez No, in the game he only pitches left handed :(
Meet him in low single A and followed him through his career , nice person very determined and has a great family
You gotta feel good having him as your 7-8 guy or your closer.
I can't imagine that it would be viable to making him the starter.
met a guy in Houston Tx had similar talents and I was amazed by it at the tryout
First, the fact that this guy has more control over both of his hands/arms than I have over 1 is ridiculously impressive and it would be nice if he could share some of the talent.
Second, how does his pitch count work? Like, does he have one pitch count for his left arm and one for his right? It's not like his left arms getting any wear and tear on it when he's throwing righty
Then the questions get even crazier during contract talks. If I was his agent I'd make them pay him as 2 separate people too lol!
@@danr154 This video is so boring it gives me bad diarrhea LOL!
Summer after my 8th grade year in school, I attended Clemson Baseball Camp in South Carolina. They split us into teams to play games. One pitcher on my team pitched with both arms, just like this pitcher. He was a great pitcher also. He could pitch so many innings with his left arm and then the same amount of innings with his right arm. This was in 1988. I met some incredible ballplayers at Clemson. I felt like a Big Fish in a small pond after I left there. I realized that I may have been the best in the South Charlotte area at the time but there were so many players more talented than I was at that camp. It opened my eyes and made me want to work harder everyday from then on. I did go to play 4A high school baseball and made the American Legion Team in my city. And went on to play NCAA Division II College Baseball. To make a long story short, there are always people more talented than you and you have to work hard every day to get better. Never settle for being the best in your area.
1:46 The Venditte Rule covers every scenario !!
😄🤚⚾️✋😄
This guy is a revolutionary player....there's gonna be more players like him who are gonna gun it harder than he does and will be invincible
If he struggles with one arm will team send half his body back to triple-A while keeping the good half (arm) in the majors? 🤣
then they could call up another half of a player. maybe only the bottom half of a really fast player to use as a pinch runner?
Crazy Talent & he’s in the MLB !!!
What the fuck is wrong with this crowd?? THE MAN IS THROWING WITH BOTH ARMS!!! THAT IS AMAZING!!!
My friend says u must have something special for ur first name to be Pat and I said this guy is special switch pitcher never heard anyone that can pitch with BOTH hands soo amazing!
Gotta be kidding me! I never heard of a pitcher with both arms. How does that work?! Very cool!
Wow really? You only know pitchers with one arm? That's crazy. Every baseball player I've seen has 2 arms 😱
He was definitely interesting, but his Professional Career was pretty short. He played only 5 years and a majority of that time was spent in the Minor Leagues. He only managed to rack up a total of 72 innings in the MLB. Eventually he was sent back down to Minor Leagues and then disappeared into Free Agency where he wouldn’t be picked up again.
As interesting as he was, he wasn’t as great as you would think someone who could pitch from both sides would be. He only topped out in the mid 80’s with both hands, and his repertoire consisted of basically fastballs and a slider on each side. Essentially, he was Batting Practice for the MLB veterans. The minuscule advantage you have pitching to the same side isn’t going to matter when they’re going to smack the meatballs you’re throwing them.
He's got more velocity in his right but more break in his left.
He's natuarally righty
Peter Donkey-Doo Exactly.
He's said before he can throw 93 fastballs with both arms so
He's said before he can throw 93 fastballs with both arms so

HaHaHa!
Holy shit! I remember seeing the video for him when he was still in the Yankees organization, and I thought "wow". Then watching this live. It was crazy!
why am I JUST NOW seeing this in my recommended list???
Even if he got knocked around, to be able to throw from both sides with control and velocity to me is insane. Few can throw good with one arm, but with another arm that is amazing.
Reminds me of the movie Perfect Game when Angel keeps switching with a switch hitter
There was a veteran pitcher in the 80s and 90s named Greg Harris who did this once - he was a righty throughout his career but in his last career major league game he pitched both righty and lefty in the same inning and didn't give up a run. I think he was the only other pitcher to ever do this but his was just a one-game deal because it was his last game.
"Amphibious Pitcher" meme brought me here
This guy has incredible ability that he has been blessed with and the A's put him back down to the farm system. Only the A's would do that.
Knowing Billy Beane, it won't be long until he's traded.

Known about this guy for quite a while. Happy he finally got the call. Even said a few years ago on an old video of his while he was still in the minors that I would like to meet the guy. Not to get an autograph per say, but for a simple game of catch. Not going to happen but it is a nice dream... :)

Crazy what a talent to be in The Majors like that ...WOW
I'm a little jealous haha
I'm also a switch pitcher, but i play recreationally with friends and for a park district over summer. I can throw low 80's with my left and high 80's/90mph with my right. Been playing since HS I'm 25 now but decided to pursue my studies and just admire baseball on the side.
When i see Pat im happy for him! we're a rare breed (and hopefully we'll see more in the future)
I've just started doing it because of my ability to do everything else with both hands and it's so much fun. It isn't extremely useful for me because I'm very adept from the right side but I figured if I needed to throw slower and keep hitters off balance I could do it.
Omar Morales Luna your not a rare breed, it’s not like your gifted with two pitching arms, practice makes perfect and anyone can do it
Wrong path kid
Aren't you just the coolest
High 80’s nothing
That is beyond impressive. Absolutely incredible.
I was a pitcher I threw 90 with my right and prob 10 mph with my left 😳
mikeggg1979 I’m 14 and I can throw around 65-70 righty, and probably about 40 lefty. I don’t know why either. I was pretty accurate with my left hand too. Unfortunately I’m more invested in football, otherwise I would try to switch-pitch
Oh my friend, thank you for honesty. You made me laugh big time. Love you honesty
@@atomicstorm7006 hey big guy none of us know why, we call it a blessing. I'm lefty with a few things and righty with others. WE ARE SPECIAL. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.

The new "ability" pay gap. So does he make 2xs as much as a normal pitcher?
No because half of his pitches make contact. Better pay comes with faster balls and good curves
U would think:as a starter, reliever or closer because he can give u twice the work load
this is an amazing talent.
I grew up as a switch pitcher. My dad trained me with both arms since I was 3 and people always marveled when they saw me doing it. He got ahold Pat Venditte and his father when he was at Creighton and I met the guy when he came to Indiana for a game. I pitched to him with both arms and he signed both of my gloves. Unfortunately my dad was a dick and drove me to resent throwing with both arms. Looking back on it I wonder what had happened if I stuck with it instead of dropping the left arm altogether. I always looked to Pat for inspiration. Awesome story.
Happened the same to me in tennis, but I didn’t let my dad change it and have stuck through it, he got me into being an ambidextrous and he fully supports me again
I wish him the best, he is obviously a hard worker. I just saw he pitched for the Gi-Ants last year, but only two games and got bombed. I predict he will go to my Angels where the sick, tired and huddled masses all go before retirement.
