That probably doesn't make sense right now, but let me explain lol. So when a queen names their kit Owlkit, it probably means that the kit looks like an owl. Then, we have a warrior ceremony and he/she gets named Owlfur. The name doesn't necessarily mean that the owl has fur, but that the cat has fur that resembles an owl. Now we have names like Mousewing. The name probably shows a mouse looking cat and the -wing suffix shows swiftness, graceful jumping, soft fur, etc. Again, not that mice have wings. I don't really like the name either, but I'm assuming that's what the Erin Hunter team meant. Doefeather also is like Mousewing in a way, -feather shows that she is graceful and maybe soft or long fur. The SkyClan cats have daylight warriors, which as you know are cats that stay during the morning and return to their homes at night. Bellaleaf is one, and I'm just guessing that the prefix shows that they are daylight warriors. Still sounds really dumb xD but yeah. The name makes you think it's a cat with a loud tread, but according to traditional naming, in which the prefix is describing the cat and the suffix is either more description or skills. Heavy- means a large cat, yes, but -step is usually for cats who have good balance, if I remember correctly. So his name in a traditional sense is the opposite of what it sounds like.

There were some weird names there and the people with the kittypet characters didn’t want to change their names to warrior names. We had some strife about it because the leader said they needed warrior names. Kinda funny now that I’ve read some of the SkyClan stuff.

Snokthorn actually makes a bit of sense, since he was named Snooky after his housefolk and Leafstar just went with that shit and named him Snookthorn, so that means that the Warriors don't actually have to know what a snook is like they did with Bilystorm and Harrybrook. They don't know what those things are but went with it.

I remember doing a role play on old Warriors forums where cats who used to be kittypets joined clans. There were some weird names there and the people with the kittypet characters didn’t want to change their names to warrior names. We had some strife about it because the leader said they needed warrior names. Kinda funny now that I’ve read some of the SkyClan stuff.

You know the worst part of Harrybrook, his two sisters, Firefern (awesome name) and Stormheart, (also pretty great) died, but we still have Harrybrook left!
Snokthorn actually makes a bit of sense, since he was named Snooky after his housefolk and Leafstar just went with that shit and named him Snookthorn, so that means that the Warriors don't actually have to know what a snook is like they did with Bilystorm and Harrybrook. They don't know what those things are but went with it.
So... wh3n you think of it, the reason Leafstar let's the cats keep their first names is because that's what Firestar did when he first found them. Thanks a lot Firestar

Harrybrook, named after Sol. Leafstar appreciated the help she got from Sol when she escaped the two leg nest which she was trapped in with her kits. At the time Sol's twoleg called him Harry so she assumed it was his name. When she named them she told Sol that she named one of her kits after him, Harrykit. He them revealed his real name was Sol.
I do have a soft spot for weird names tbh. Like, things that end in -nose or -foot. I dont know, it's just charming.
