Yes this is a different era. This is off her self-titled album Aaliyah. Her third and final album. And, this was her final video she shot. It's a beautiful song and a lovely video.
I still can’t believe there were only three albums. She had more hits on those three albums than some artists have in a lifetime.

@@drewrayg I remember I got in the car and they were playing her songs all the way to the store and all the way home but the DJ never came on the mic. I thought “Is it her birthday or something?” Then I got home and it was all over the news😢😢 I was stunned.
This was quite a bittersweet week - I find it hard to revisit Aaliyah's music, but I'm glad I stuck with it and watched every video. Thanks PippBucket!

People are just picking songs because they are their favorites, when you introduce someone to someone’s music and image you give them the key elements and major b*llet points and than let them dig deeper afterwards, never start with songs that are not well known just because you love them, lol.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. I was in my late teens when she died. We were all so heartbroken over her death. It's such a shame she died in a completely avoidable accident. Her presence and talent will always be missed!

Yes, this album ("Aaliyah") was a new era/sound for her and was basically supposed to be her transition (look and sonically) from teen starlet to adult popstar but her time was cut short. "Try Again" was the transition to the new era. "We Need A Resolution" and "More Than A Woman" were the first singles released (if I remember correctly). "Rock The Boat" and "I Care 4 U" were released posthumously. She actually passed away on the way back from the "Rock The Boat" shoot, the plane was overloaded/too heavy and the pilot was allegedly on drugs at the time. Also, random fun fact, Carmit from the original Pussycat Dolls line up (red hair) is one of the background dancers in "Rock The Boat."

The scenes when she is in all white & on the beach were in the Bahamas. She finished shooting a day early so she decided to head out...😔 the scenes in the all white were her last hours of her life. If u noticed, there were shots with and without shoes because the boat's floor had gotten hot
FUN FACT: The song almost didn't happen! The producer, Eric Seats, was playing around on his equipment & was gonna delete it until her writer, Static Major, from the R&B group Playa, heard it and wrote the hook.

Every time I see Rock the Boat I get emotional knowing it was her last video and there was no need for them to be in the Bahamas shooting the video. She also had a feeling about the plane that was supposed to bring her back and Lenny Kravitz sent his own personal plane to get her and the director I believe took it while they gave her some sleeping pills or something to relax her and they put her on that bad plane.
If you guys pause the video at the end you will see (3) images of Aaliyah.
1. Her body appears to be lifeless & floating in the air.
2. Her spirit is ascending to the heavenlies.
3. Her face can be seen at the top with her head peeked down as if she is looking at something...maybe viewing us all still down here on earth from Heaven.

Joe and Mike the critical thinking in this video is something a lot of people need. You both are hilarious.
It’s funny cos I saw a few people complaining that they don’t focus on the song much and tend to focus on the video and in a way it’s their style. We have many reactors that do the song focused reactions but WT5 is unique that it’s 85% about the video & how the videos message makes them feel & 15% about the song.. It’s kind of like the VMAs of youtube reactors.

Sadly, this is the 3rd and final Aaliyah era, and her final music video. She passed away in a plane crash leaving this video set. Which is why for many it's a very bittersweet video and has a beautiful yet eerie feeling, especially the intro/outro.

Love the video, but at what cost... If only Aaliyah hadn't been in such a rush to return home. Commercial flying is much safer. 11:23 It's a Newsboy style hat. Kangol was an especially popular brand. 12:24 It's a reflection of the light source used to purposefully create the pinprick light effect in the eye. An essential lighting trick used in ALL professional film productions (typically by narrowing the barn doors on an Arri). No matter how dark or full of light a scene is, the pinprick must always be there.
We Need A Resolution was one of her best videos and they didn't react to it. The snake scene is iconic. 😭
