  • Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, explaining the importance of a relaxed body and a focused mind during the execution of kata. This is the only way to minimize the energy expenditure and be able to perform multiple katas in rapid succession. This principle, together with balance, speed and timing, is fundamental to succeed in competitions.

Excellent and simple approach. Kata is about givin energy, not exhausting the body. Best regards, Paul,67

I'm only guessing, but I suggest he said something like body relaxed, mind alert; your shoulders down, natural, not tense. [Speed, muscular tension lasts only a small fraction of a second, then relax.] You're not tense during performance of a technique. Not so much 'energy'... good kata [leads to] not so much energy, good balance, good speed, good timing.
