He’s always been a grafter every day of his life and always been stupid/silly with me and my brother when he was around, gave us such a good childhood.. which made me who I am today! He has only one weakness - communication, but that seems to be like that for a lot of men from that era. What he doesn’t say with his words he shows with his actions. Thank you for reminding me

Go to it Bonnie ! I am 76. I 'work' for one hour every morning when it isn't raining too hard. (UK ! ) A little and often is the key. Patrol your garden (yard) each day to see what may need doing the next. I LEAVE WILD PATCHES for the birds and hedgehogs (I am lucky). I sit in a chair with my morning coffee to take a good look at mine and to listen to the birds. To me, the best compliment I had is when someone said "I LOVE your wild garden" 🙏
I turned 70 and started to get concerned. My whole yard is gravel or grass walkways and plantings. Trees, mostly Japanese maples, dogwoods and Crape Myrtle, shrubs and flowers. Nearly an acre that is described as the tamed part of an arboretum. I get sad at the thoughts of it getting taken over by weeds but I can't work like I used to.
You and your Dad just make my week. What an amazing job you do every single time. Mines about the same size and state and was quoted £3000 to clear it. You've brought some joy into this lady's life. Thank you for everything you do. Love to you and your family xx

Can I give a little shout for the brambles ? they are shelter and food for birds, hedgehogs and caterpillars of butterflies & moths. The trick is to treat them as a hedge - constantly cut off the long runners. It takes a few seasons !!! But you will end up with a hedge that you can sit by and watch and HEAR the wildlife; which is a burglar deterrent and is a source of berries for JAM. I'd support a nettle patch too - "Nettles are the food plant for the caterpillars of red admiral, small tortoiseshell, painted lady and comma butterflies. It's important to treat your nettles like any other garden plant if you are growing for the benefit of butterflies. Cut them regularly to get good fresh growth from the nettles. " (Natural History Museum London)
