I meant if nuclear war broke out in the intro not some random person with a nuke, I like my city.
I remember seeing the first gameplay previews for it and thinking it looked like Stalker and a CoD campaign had a baby. I've read all 3 books too :)
I'm hoping to get Road Side Picnic and Metro 2033 as books for christmas i've heard they're great

And I remember the librarians in metro 2033, when I was a kid I was just sprinting while listening to some dubstep because I was scared shitless 😂
I played through Metro 2033 multiple times throughout high school. Not just because I was trying to go for the good ending but I was finding new things every time that I did. The game had jank but I think it gave some charm to it. As a series, its always on my top recommendations for people to play

It's a very rough, but very fun experience.
I like to believe certain post apoc games coexisting in one universe (America - Fallout, Russia - Metro, Ukraine - Stalker)

I'll start off with Redux since I played it first:
1. The game looks brighter and more cinematic than the original, some aspects are changed and/or redesigned
2. Braindead easy stealth/combat compared to original
2.1 Enemies have normal to fast reaction times
3. Guns can be modded for a price throughout certain parts of the game
4. Guns are not obnoxiously inaccurate compared to original game
5. Performance wise runs better
6. Knives and pipe bombs are 1 button throwables, can't cook grenades or cancel throwing a knife
7. Camera has a slight bobbing effect when you walk, sprint and jump
8. You can find keys and safes to unlock and get extra loot and journals throughout the levels
9. Improved controls over the original.
10. Hardest difficulty lets you carry only 2 guns.
11. Hitmarkers, can be turned off though.
Original:
1. Graphics look more bleak, nuclear winter like, personally prefer them more over redux and I played it first lol
2. Guns are a slot machine in terms of where the bullet goes, even if you use iron sights or scopes, not knives or grenades though
3. Stupid high mouse sensitivity range, even the lowest is still pretty fast, and for some reason the vertical sensitivity is considerably slower than the horizontal, along with slight mouse acceleration that you can't turn off
4. Movement feels more janky, no camera bobbing except for when you sprint for a bit.
5. The trench knife, pipe bombs and throwing knives need to be equipped to use, you can light the fuse of the pipe bombs to time a grenade to explode on impact, and you can either equip your throwing knife, throw instantly by left clicking or holding left click to "charge" it and then letting go to throw, your mouse sensitivity is lowered when left click is held down to aim more precisely, and lastly you can poke stuff right click.
(Do not use the trench knife, unless you like gambling your chances of surviving longer, use it in redux though)
6. Guns can be found or bought with set attachments to them, cannot be modded, some have more than others.
7. No safes, keys to them or journals to be found as this is a feature from the sequel to this game and was ported to the redux version
8. Easy but brutal mistake punishing stealth, enemies have stupid fast reaction time once you are spotted, don't bother trying to not use stealth unless you want to die or waste a bunch of bullets and health packs.
8.1 Pro tip: don't aim for the head, aim for the throat with knives, knives bounce off if you hit as enemies usually have face masks or helmets
9. In this version you can carry a revolver, 1 automatic gun, and 1 semi automatic gun, oh and throwable equipment that I mentioned earlier, each with their own slot. In redux you can carry whatever the hell you want, 3 (or 2 at highest difficulty) double barrel shotguns no problem for example.
10. There are a bit more loading screens as some levels are seperated more often, in redux version these levels are one big level with no loading screens inbetween.
These are some differences I noticed playing through both versions. I don't think you can buy the original Metro 2033 anymore through but theres always good old russian sites to pirate ))

thank you I really appreciat ethat :). I would love to finish the entire series since it gives me a good reason to play them again but it's hard to dedicate so much time to making them knowing the overall performance. But I will keep this comment in mind when I need a video idea :)
