    It completely ANGERS me that anyone would throw away clothing in the trash. There are so many ways to donate them so that they don't land up in the landfill. Thanks for diving!

      Omg even the kids toys. Come on people... why not donate so another child can use them. Ugh

      Macy Simpler no I know. But that's not always the case. I've seen plenty of children's toys in the garbage before. At the very least, recycle them. It's just a colossal waste and our planet suffers.

    Yes ma'am. I am the same way about cards. I no longer buy em for my fiancé bc he just dont care about cares so why waste the money right... i love looking at my grandpas cards he gave me. Seeing his handwriting makes me a happy sad. I can remember the way he wrote my name with his cards and letters. Makes me feel close to him. Hes chilling up in heaven though waiting on me. Lol

      You'd surprised at the amount of cards I find on a dive. I feel bad for the person that gave them- they're clearly not appreciated.

      Especially the ones that are like Graduation and teenager birthday cards...I find big stacks of those and you know that the kid went through, pillaged for money and dumped them in a pile. Sometimes they don't even take all the money out (or gift cards).

    Something to think about...you passed on the pillow sham because of the possibility of bedbugs, but then turned around and took other clothing items from the same batch of stuff....bedbugs don't care WHAT they crawl into, they're just as happy in clothing or sofas as in bed linens!!! Just trying to be thought provoking!

      Yeah but I'm sure Mom the Ebayer washes that stuff when she gets home, and where she's diving at looks pretty upscale (not saying that's fool-proof, but it helps I think).

    • @pamh.5705
      @pamh.5705 7 лет назад

      HappyHandyLife I'm sure she does too (I mean, who wouldn't?!?) but I just said that because she purposely passed on that cute sham for fear of bugs but then took all that other stuff that was in with it.

    • @happyhandylife4101
      @happyhandylife4101 7 лет назад

      Ah, that makes sense. I thought the sham was cute too, but I also pass on all bedding in the dumpster, no matter how cute.

    • @jessicachungisreal
      @jessicachungisreal 7 лет назад +8

      HappyHandyLife what Pam H. is saying is that if bedbugs were possibly in the sham, then it would be the same story with the clothes.

  • @marciasanderson838
    @marciasanderson838 7 лет назад +4

    Thanks for rescuing the clothes for the homeless shelter! That lamp you passed up could be sanded down a bit and spray painted....even if it needed to be rewired its not hard or expensive to do and you could have made your self a nice profit for a few hours of work and also saved it from the landfill. If you are not crafty I bet you know someone who is. Thanks for sharing.

    If someone gives me a card and it doesn't have a personal note inside of it, I usually cut the front of it and use it for decorating my scrapbook pages! But only if the card doesn't have a heartfelt message inside :)

    Hello Mom the Ebayer just wanted to leave you a tip. That glass jar you found with the cracked top can be somewhat fixed. Take some sand paper and sand the broken part. This will take out that jagged edge and smooth it out making it safe to touch. I do it all the time specially with baking wear. It works wonders. Just a little tip. Be Blessed and keep finding goodies.

    Im with you on the cards thing. My mom, may she rest in peace, before passing made handmade cards that were AMAZING! She never got into the computer/social media/email world. She hated it because it was so impersonal. I actually have cards from my first birthday, letters from family that has passed away and even just cards from friends that i may not be friends with anymore. That box is one of my most prized possessions. I still send cards whether people trash them or not. Its the act of making someone feel special. Giving your time is more precious than money.

    I keep the written messages of the cards, and me and my kids reuse the front of the cards for crafting new cards. This way we give something we made, and they often look better than store bought. I also date and write in the gift, for my kids to remember what they got when they look back in the future.

TOO MANY to keep.. recycle bin recieved them well. I have learned in my Ebaying and gathering/hauling to let go.. I had a hoard..and didnt realize it.. omg!! taking care of Mom's stuff opened my eyes.. 18,000 books.. my obsession! I found books in the garbage.. by the 100s.. you can find them all day and night now.. no one wants books, I had to get rid of almost all.. cuz they wont sell, and are hard to even give away nowadays.

    Mom I hate to tell you but bed bugs get on everything. Not just bedding. The people who have them, have them on their clothes and lamps, and pictures and other furnishings, suitcases. So all those clothes could have been infested with them. People often have to throw away most of their belongings to get rid of bed bugs.

    Your right about the cards, ppl put a bit of themselves in the words they write to the one receiving the card. My Mother kept all the cards us kids gave her for ever, she had a small dresser full of them. it was neat as an adult to go back and see how I , as a child used to write. I guess it was the Mom thing however she even kept the ones we sent her as adults up until the day she died. :)

      Try the nearby colleges anytime honestly...especially any slightly off-campus apartments where rich foreign students live. You would not believe what they throw away, and not just at the end of the year. I tend to avoid the dorms because they don't throw out much that I would want, but the apartments and sometimes the frat/sorority housing can be goldmines.

    Bed bugs can be found in clothing also ,and I'm happy that you donate because it just don't make sense for people to be with out when stuff like that is sitting there, but bed bugs can be found in clothing also.

    I agree with you on the cards. I keep cards too! I love looking back on cards that I've received over the years. Some people just don't feel the same way unfortunately. Oh well.

    If you take clear nail polish and paint it around the chipped part of the lid ( a few coats) will keep anyone from getting cut & it will feel smooth

  • @pamh.5705
    @pamh.5705 7 лет назад

    BTW, "Mom", you can smooth the sharp edges of that chipped jar lid with an Emory board or sandpaper (of course, throw the board or paper away afterward cause it will have glass on it!) and then coat it with several coats of clear nail polish to take away the sharp edges....I know you have young children, so I thought of them. I also thought, you could have cleaned the base of that floor lamp and painted it with high-gloss black spray paint to change it up!

    Wanted to let you know bed bugs do not only stay on bedding. If you find bed bugs you can be sure bed bugs will be on everything near where you find them. In 2016 I decided I was going to pick up a vacuum my neighbor threw out. I noticed by baby had some strange bites then little by little within 6 months everyone in the house was being bit. One of my teen boys was able to catch a live one, that is when we found out we had bed bugs. The only new item in the house was the vacuum. We ended up passing them to my brothers house. The way he got rid of them was he heated his house to over 150 degrees and held it for 45 min per room.

I like to give cards and I always have along with something else but I've seen so many people throw them away that I just dont really get cards for people anymore. The cards that people have gave me I have always kept! I still have a huge box of cards from like 10 years ago. 😄 I just love to keep them!

    I keep all of the cards I get too. It's memories to me. All the cards I give I hand make them so when someone goes to throw them out, they'll feel bad about it because I put so much work into it. Then they won't want to throw them out lol

    Here's what you can do with discarded cards, especially Christmas cards:
    1. Get a used card.
    2. Tear or cut the front part from the back part
    3. Throw the back part away.
    4. With a pencil, draw a line at the exact middle of the card widthwise.
    5. You have made a postcard.
    6. On the right side of the line put name & address of recipient.
    7. Write a note to your Pal
    8. Postage for postcards is cheaper than standard stamps.
    8. Drop in mail.

    Well, I'll admit to throwing away cards, but I do keep the special ones. I find so many cards diving though, and you are right...sometimes there are gift cards in them! Same with wallets and purses that get thrown out. Sometimes people leave old gift cards in those too.
    The people in your diving route throw out some nice stuff, I gotta say. The cold and the snow must keep everyone inside while you're out diving which is nice too :)

    I personally don't like getting store bought cards that are simply signed and throw them out often. However I do keep homemade cards. For some reason knowing there isn't a hundred copies of the exact same card at hallmark makes it feel more genuine.

  • @quigli

    I think the purpose of a card is to convey whatever message is written on/inside it. Some people will spend a fair amount of time picking out the "perfect" card for a particular person, or writing out a heartfelt message.
    I do not, however, see the purpose in hanging on to them once you have read and enjoyed them. At that point, for most people, they just become clutter, as they are rarely (if ever) re-read.
    That being said, I know a lot of people feel that same compulsion to keep gift cards that you do, which is the reason I don't often give them anymore.

    I tried to keep my kids cards, but after the first 10 yrs I had to let them go. I still have lots but they will never want them. I kept their diaries and I did a journal for each of them when they were growing up. I sat in bed each night and documented the day..Friends, places, good times and bad...all through the elementary years and teenage tears I wrote in their journals at least once a week. They each have one and it is the safety lock box . There are pictures in them through the years, pictures of favorite dolls and toys even clothes, friends ..everything spevial.All their childhood memories. It will be all they need as a adult and auxually hear my voice in their head reading it to them. I have tons of video tape on to DVD. I only keep really special cards.. The journals have entries from me to them telling them how much they mean to me ..I even left all kinds of advice on life's problems......I filled 4 thick journals both sides of the paer. They each have two with their life to date...

    I keep cards from my mother, granny and husband. all other cards are displayed through the holidays on the wall above our bar. then they get recycled. I do keep cards from others when they have sentimental value (kind words , words of encouragement, love etc.)

    Yeah, I agree on cards. I was taught to make my own since I was a little girl. If I need a card, I have a stash from garage sales and thrift stores. If I buy a card- it is at the Dollar Tree. They have nice cards for cheap!
