Had a question or 2 about some of the other aircraft. Figured I'd give a rundown here. The one thing missing from the video I wanted to do, but ran out of time, was to do a quick interview with each aircraft owner and their aircraft. My S7 has a lot of custom mods, most documented on the channel, but the quick rundown is an Edge Performance EP912STi engine with a prototype high altitude turbo setup. Robert's gear, S-20 flap handle, 29's bushwheels, etc. The Red S-21 has a 180hp Titan, and Desser tires. The green S-20 has an Edge Performance EP912STi engine, the S-6 has a one off, custom, huge wing built by the owner, and has a 100hp 912ULS. It weights like 650 lbs empty and performs very well with a stock HP engine. The S-19 has a 100hp Rotax, and of course, the coolest mod of all - a horn!! -T
Best video yet. Monument valley wound reminded me of Hugo Montenegro “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly”. Don’t think you can have more fun with your pants on. Great; stuff
That's the best video yet GK. You have inspired me to head out to the States and tour Arizona and Utah, albeit in a rented 182. 4 weeks to go, can't wait!
I would say the wingtip was around 30ft away. Wide angle camera does distort things a little too. Not many places you can get up that close to something, and still have 500-1000ft below you that's open... it's an interesting experience for sure! I love that "3 dimensional" flying where you are really down in it. Like the canyon approach into hidden splendor... I rolled it over and into the canyon fast, power to idle, glide all the way in. Touched the throttle just a bit off the end as I picked up some burbles.. but had the runway made from up top... yet you get to be down in the canyon the whole way, really exciting flying, and yet, pretty safe not needing power to reach the strip. Can't do that many places.... Thanks Edward. -T
Another great Utah expedition, amazed to see where an S19 can go! Good to see your mates getting into Factory Butte, not too sure if anyone had ever landed there before your good self last year. And I'm not surprised it was 3:00 in the morning - monster edit, thank you - good stuff!!
Thank you my friend. This one did take some time, and I had to export it 5 times before it was over to get the sound issues worked out - still having lots of trouble with that stupid issue where the sound wont export for a small piece of the video, it will be random each time I export. Known bug that Adobe won't fix. But all good! The S19 is pretty impressive, Glenn can stuff that thing in some pretty tight spots!!!
An awesome video in every way- some great flying, awesome tour guide, loved Monument Valley and the music! thanks so much for all the effort it takes to bring us along!!!!!
Awesome video. Next time you land at Hiden Splendor, be sure to go see the old uranium mine done along the river at the "Canyon" end of the runway, you'll see the old truck in the bottom, super cool.
That was fantastic Tod, you have some amazing places to fly. We in Australia don’t have anything like that. But we do have some wild country in the outback. Thanks for posting. Cheers Wiz
We were in there about a year and a half ago. It was a backup potential camp spot for this trip. We convinced the 3 that left Dirty Devil to stop in there on their way back to camp, I think Erik rolled it and said it was pretty rough on one end, so they didn't end up landing. Sounds like it might need a little work after winter. Neat spot though for sure, nice piece of river there!
this is getting old! thought maybe we had done or winding for this spring.. seems it will be one of those years it blows hard until may.. hopefully not longer! ill get up there one of these days soon!!
Hey Terry, check out Mexican Mountain, Hidden Splendor, Mineral Canyon, Happy Canyon, Dirty Devil airstrips... best place to look those strips up is utahbackcountrypilots.org as many of these strips are not on a regular chart. Most of those are west of green river a little ways, and then main south west and south of green river. -T
Fab video, really enjoyed the content and very well put together. There are some really remote looking spots out there but invariablely there is a road in the bottom of the canyon. Why would someone go to the substantial effort of doing this? I'm guessing they were miners but what was the mineral/ore they were looking for?
What do you think about the Earth being flat with Peaks and valleys and mountains of course I know it's a weird question but I like your videos and you're up in the air and you see a lot more than we do beautiful scenery keep up the good work
That is an S-21, with the 180hp Titan 340. It performs great and we can't keep up with him when in cruise. The 21 doesn't have the gear to handle moderate to heavy off airport, and it won't slow down as much as my 7, 20, or S6... but overall it is a very well rounded machine, does great in the backcountry, hauls a load and has a very large flight speed envelope!
So some of these spots don't have road access (Mexican Mountain where we camped, dirty devil, happy canyon don't. But Hidden Splendor does have a road out there.... I asked someone who drove out once and they said it was an hour or 1.5hrs to a town if I remember correctly. Hanksville, Cainville, Green River are all towns in the general area - not sure which is the closest by road). Mineral Canyon (not featured in this video) has a road to it as well, and would be a neat spot to drive out to.. so check on that one as well.
If it's just me.. 25ish+ in the mountains and I'll usually pass. I've had 60mph winds in the mountains that were smooth wasn't supposed to be that strong, or would not have been up there). I've also been beat to crap with 15mph winds.. depends in so many factors. Typically where it gets exciting is when you have convective winds in the warmer parts of the year. Out on the flatter lands another 5-10mph is usually manageable. I've flown backwards a few times and it was fairly smooth... so it really depends on the type of wind. In the mountains is you really have to be cautious as it gets amplified and can be completely disgusting. Of course if I have two days to fly, and one is calmer, I'll choose that - Long turbulent days are not a ton of fun. But, it's windy here most of the time (blowing up to 90mph not far from here today actually), so I have learned to deal with it. I am a firm believer that calm seas don't make skilled sailors as they say... the question is how to no bite off more than you can chew.. that's the challenging part. Push it, and be challenged... to a point! The forecasts are usually wrong, so you will get stuck in it eventually here and need to be ready. Thanks for the question Mark -T

What's your rough cruise speed with those setups?
Thanks for the close up intiimate look at some of the most iconic landscape in America. Appreciated.
This absolutely the greatest video of your flight with friends in a beautiful setting.
Awesome video, when the music stopped and you can hear the engine is the best part. Great job.
Tod you're killing it with the Synthwave keep it up excellent work.
Another very impressive video, Great scenery, nice job. Thanks
I am rebuilding an Avid "Fox" and hope to fly out there in a year from Northern Utah!
Very, very nice trip! Thank you so much for the ride!
I will repeat myself...you have some of the best aviation content on the Tube. Very well done...as always.
Thank you!!!
You have the best backcountry videos out there. Keep em' coming!
thanks!!
Espectacular video 👏👏👏👍
Wonderful video
camping and flying. 2 of my favorite things. You sure did have a good time. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed 😂 thanks Tom!
What a beautiful playground you have to fly in.....

that is awesome!!!!! have a blast!!
Very good video really enjoyed it.The scenery is spectacular. It looked like you flew very close to that wall at 7:18 from my view.

Oh, come to think of it I was noticed a structure down there while coming in.... I will do this next time!
@@GravityKnightFlying it's worth the hike, super cool mine you can go take a safe peak at. you'll love it.
FINALLY someone with real MUSIC in a flying video. Non of the mind numbing Techno Trash you usually here , thank you.

That was fantastic Tod, you have some amazing places to fly. We in Australia don’t have anything like that. But we do have some wild country in the outback. Thanks for posting. Cheers Wiz
Thanks Wiz!
Great video, as always.
Thanks, enjoyed it. Great job!
Cool stuff, my backyard. Love those spots. I was surprised you did not hit Mineral Canyon
I would have enjoyed that a lot!! Back in the day, I made many BASE jumps in Mineral Canyon.
We were in there about a year and a half ago. It was a backup potential camp spot for this trip. We convinced the 3 that left Dirty Devil to stop in there on their way back to camp, I think Erik rolled it and said it was pretty rough on one end, so they didn't end up landing. Awesome, great job on editing! Your a Pro
thanks Khris!
What a great Video thanks Guys
I wanna go flying with y'all!
Levi, I agree man!
Great stuff as always. Thx!!!
Great video
The south departure out of Hidden Splendor is a little more "exciting" flying two up and camping gear in an S-20 with the standard 912
Definitely doable! We left an airport once at gross and 10,650DA! Still got off in 500' and managed 300fpm minute climb in the same aircraft.
@@s19flyer she's a good one the S-20
The wind is driving me insane!!
Eric has been coming to breakfast, we ought to see how many Rans we can get over here.
this is getting old! thought maybe we had done or winding for this spring.. seems it will be one of those years it blows hard until may.. hopefully not longer! ill get up there one of these days soon!!
belle vidéo...!! nice
I would love to replicate this on Microsoft Flight Simulator! Can you furnish names of some of the best areas with landing strips! Excellent video!
Hey Terry, check out Mexican Mountain, Hidden Splendor, Mineral Canyon, Happy Canyon, Dirty Devil airstrips... best place to look those strips up is utahbackcountrypilots.org as many of these strips are not on a regular chart. @@GravityKnightFlying Thank you sir!!!
Can we see the flight plan and landing locations? Thanks!

Why would someone go to the substantial effort of doing this? I'm guessing they were miners but what was the mineral/ore they were looking for?
I think your right - I believe a lot of those old roads and trails were for mining. Not 100% sure, but I think some of them were for Uranium
What do you think about the Earth being flat with Peaks and valleys and mountains of course I know it's a weird question but I like your videos and you're up in the air and you see a lot more than we do beautiful scenery keep up the good work
Was the red plane and s-20? Or an s21? Do you know what engine it had? Your plane sure seems awesome!
That is an S-21, with the 180hp Titan 340. It performs great and we can't keep up with him when in cruise. Thank you for your videos. Can you tell me what kind of fuel you use?
Thanks! 91 pump (with ethanol). Rotax’s don’t mind ethanol, but your fuel system might… (mine is ok to use with ethanol).
How many hours would it take a 4WD to get out there from the nearest large town/city.
So some of these spots don't have road access (Mexican Mountain where we camped, dirty devil, happy canyon don't. But Hidden Splendor does have a road out there.... when you are flight planning what are the winds that are show stoppers?

If ya need a safety pilot, I’m just out in kfmm. About to put a strip in my yard
I'm going to need a track list sir.
33:51 is that an S21?
it is 👍
Epic
What engine do you have? Whats the aircraft cost?
Bro I don't know what that editing effect is around 35 min in but it made my wife throw up... And she's not a puker...
Sorry to hear that!, not sure what to say, there are no editing effects on the video outside of transitions and basic stuff along those lines.
@GravityKnightFlying, Can you please list the ICOA's, of the landing strips, you landed at, thanks in advance?
