They were so ahead of their time! One of the best debut album ever
thanks
Still blows my mind that this album was mostly recorded in Tom scholz’s basement!
Rip Brad Delp
And Sib Hashian (2017)
I get a kick out of seeing you (and other reactors) discovering/enjoying the music that I've listened to since my teenage years! Boston is TIMELESS!!
Tom Scholz recorded this whole album in his basement studio mainly by himself. Before that he worked for Kodak and was a graduate of M.I.T. He invented the stuff he made the sound effects with. He plays a crazy good organ and guitar.
Actually Tom worked in the R & D dept of Polaroid.
Most women complain Foreplay doesn't last long enough.
True. But they love Long Time.
The harmonies are so good because it’s one person. Brad Delp did all the vocals Tom Schulz played all the instruments. When the album immediately became a hit, they had to put together a band in order to tour and play live.
Jim Masdea played some of the drum parts.
Tom did all the instruments except the drums. Brad did all the vocals.
A Man I'll Never Be is a great ballad. R.I.P. Brad
Don't forget it's basically one person playing every instrument😊
Other than drums, yeah, on the studio version. When touring, they added others to fill the roles.
One of my favorite songs of all time! Great reaction!!!
Mine too.
My favorite Boston song is which ever one is currently playing at that time...every song rocks!!!
As someone mentioned, the harmonies are Brad Delp harmonizing with Brad Delp.
1 - Boston’s entire first album is a masterpiece, one of the top 3 debut albums of all time. Do every song!
The Launch - Cool the Engines from Third Stage.
Yes, absolutely should be the next one she should react to. Totally agree 👍
MIT graduate Tom Scholz was the man behind Boston. Barry Goudreau was lead guitarist; Brad Delp did lead vocals. Sib Hashian was on drums.
Tom was the lead guitarist . Where do you get off giving her bad info ? Tom and Brad made the album by themselves and recorded these solos before anyone else joined the band .
@@michaelforsythe8682 Scholz and Goudreau shared guitar parts. If you reread my post, I said that Scholz was the man behind Boston, instrumentally, and in studio production. That is a correct statement. I apologize for not being clearer.
Perfect pick forr a first Boston song
I think she has done More Than A Feeling but i may be wrong.
Welcome to the sounds of my people in our teens. We got to live with these legendary musicians of so many different styles. Boston, Yes, Floyd, Zep, Sabbath, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac And oh so many others. Far too many to mention.
We were truly blessed.
Then we had the 80's.
We were spoiled to say the least
Boston is one of my favorites! I would have to say that my favorite track by them is Feeling Satisfied.
I bought the 'Boston' album while it was still new in stores. Tom Scholz is an engineer, and invented never-before-heard studio equipment for this album.
Boston had the world's largest traveling pipe organ (24') & the world's largest Hammond organ (same organ? IDK) at one time (not sure if those records have since been broken).
I saw this album release tour at the Cleveland Collusseum and I'd read they hauled around the pipe organ from New York's Trinity Cathedral in multiple trailer rigs. It rose up about 50 feet on a hydraulic platform for this song.
@@rimasmuliolis1136 I saw them twice at the Greek Theater in LA in 95 and another date near then I can't find. Set was full of pipes, but I couldn't tell what was real (pipes) and what was decoration, but they filled the entire width of the stage plus the organ in the center. (Probably a smaller organ then).
You could literally react to every song on their debut album and not miss. Every song is perfection.
You are so right ! Every song on that album got radio airplay.
Hi beautiful 😍 my favorite song off the greatest debut album ever
Boston was so popular because they had their own sound, when they came on the scene, everyone loved them and knew a song by Boston. Boston is unique, stop comparing them to every other band, that's not how they came acrossed in the 70's. Their girlfriends did the claps, I thought that was cool.
Thanks Maggie! Boston-Boston was one of the first full albums I bought as a Yute. Peace, Love!!
Don’t Look Back, Feelin’ Satisfied, Smokin’ all need to be on your list
A toccata is a solo piece for keyboard or stringed instrument designed to show off the performer's dexterity--rapid runs, etc. The term was first applied to lute music.
She's an opera singer. I think she knows
Another one from Boston that really resonates with me is “Than Man I’ll Never Be”.
Boston, Styx, Kansas, ELO, ELP, BTO, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Jethro Tull, Loggins & Messina…trailblazing bands of the 70s, along with trailblazing singers like Elton John and Billy Joel, and I will throw in Progressive Rock’s “Renaissance” group, and even Deadato’s “2001” theme adaptation.
In 1985 Boston landed into the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Texas and blew the Texas Jam into pieces what an incredible lineup And they closed it out in Boston fashion so memorible.
First time I saw Boston was in 1977 and the tickets were 7 dollars boy how times have changed
Saw them in concert at the Sun Dome in Tampa, FL. in 1995. What a crowd! While waiting for the concert to start, we saw a man with greying hair in his' 50's walk in, wearing a Tux. His date was a stunning blonde in a light blue floor length evening gown with a tiara, diamond earrings/necklace and white elbow length gloves. 10 feet behind them, in walked a woman in her 30's wearing a black bustier, leather short shorts, fishnet stockings, thigh-high boots and black leather gloves. In her hand was a silver chained dog leash. This leash was attach to the collar of the man she was leading in. He was wearing black combat boots, black leather pants, a black leather vest (no shirt), spiked leather dog collar and a full head black leather mask with only breathing holes! I told my friends "This Concert just went to the next level"!! The concert was awesome!
I Purchased This Album The First Week Of Release
Boston has a unique sound all their own and is instantly recognizable due to lead guitarist Tom Scholz. He had a Masters Degree from MIT and invented and built the electronic effects that gave Boston it's distinctive sound.
Saw them in 79-80… A man I’ll never be - that song blew my mind. They were so good live- harmony and all.❤😊
The fact that you heard other songs in this one song tells you the influence Boston had on the rock world. When this album hit, we had never heard anything like it (and honestly, since then). Brad is up there with Steve Perry, Steve Walsh, Freddy Mercury as the greatest voices in rock history. Brad was an amazing human as well, well-known around the New Hampshire towns he lived in (and New England in general) as a humble, compassionate, and talented man. I knew him back in the day, not well, but well enough that he would beckon me over when we were in the same venue to have a 10-15 minute chat to catch up. I saw him a few months before his passing, I have no doubt the chronic pain he was in from his motorcycle accident had a hand (no pun intended as one of his hands had nerve damage from the wreck) in his choice to leave this world. Fortunately, he will never be gone from our hearts or ears.
I'd like to take her to a live show, to watch her react while the music continues.😊❤
TIMELESS PERFECTION! The rock era was simply amazing and then some!
Love the song and the reaction Miss Maggie.
I love a lot of the 70's and 80's groups, but Boston is my favorite. No one can duplicate Boston's sound!
Don't Look Back/The Journey/It's Easy from their 2nd album
Amanda, even if you listen by yourself.1
I loved loved loved this song when I was a kid. Back when Boston was popular, these teenagers with a garage band literally played from their garage, with the door open. Whenever I hear Boston I think back to those days when these teens gave the neighborhood a concert featuring bands like Boston, Styx, Kansas and Fleetwood Mac. 70s was a great time for Rock n Roll.
You are One of a Kind. You don't want to be placed in a box with other singers. You are You. So Is Boston, Boston and Queen is Queen. There are no comparisons to each other. Appreciate each for what and who they are. So busy filing and comparing, you miss the art. Take it for what it is, what it is, is great.
Boston, one of the greatest rock bands ever. 😎 First heard from my brothers records... been listening ever since. So many memories cruisin the strip on the weekends in my 1972 Barracuda back in the mid-80s...just wore this cassette out! 🔥🤘🔥
When I was still singing, my best friend gave me the title of "The Rich Little of music"
Rich Little was a comedian back in the day who could mimic just about any voice of any famous person.
That to me was the greatest compliment when I was doing cover songs. the fact he was one of the best singers/guitar player/ writers I knew was the ultimate compliment.
I took pride in making every song sound as close to the vocalist who performed the song as I could. From Udo to Robert Plant, to Bon Scott to Rob Halford. From Brian Connolly To Robin Zander, I made sure I did my best. To the point where I couldn't figure out my own unique voice when I started making my own music.
You should do "Yes - Roundabout" next I think. It's from the same time-frame, and also has an amazing amount of changes and transitions. Plus the bass riff is crazy good!
Boston is Worldclass
Thanks for reacting to this song. The album absolutely blew us away when it first hit. Boston was an incredible game changer. Excellent video.
Simply one of the best songs period! Fantastic band with a bunch of feel good songs from this outstanding album.
One quick note: Brad Delp sang 100% of the vocals on the studio albums that he sang on. All lead, all backing, and all harmonies. It’s ALL JUST LAYERS, AND LAYERS OF BRAD. 🙂
My favorite Boston song and one for personal reasons is very special to me is, “A Man I’ll Never Be”. I lost my youngest daughter on March 9, 2023. Ironically, I found out later that Boston singer, Brad Delp, also died on March 9th (2007). Then I lost my wife on August 9, 2024 suddenly from a catastrophic stroke. 😞 I listened to and reflected a lot to (and still do) the song, “A Man I’ll Never Be”. Can you ever be ENOUGH for the loved ones in your life that gave EVERYTHING to you? I don’t think so.
Thank you Dorkie
Thanks Dorky!
I still remember hearing this for the first time when the album came out. My friend and I sat there, mouths agape, listening to this masterpiece of an album. All hits!
This whole album is ah may zing
Boston has the BEST first album of all time!
The pictures on the album are guitars upside down. They look like space ships.
Foreplay part give me the mental image of their "guitar shaped starship" taking off.
Yes, Brad Delp did all the vocals, lead and harmony.
I remember seeing Boston in concert in Indianapolis in 1978. Still like the music.
I think they had a vibe and sound all to their own...
No rabbit holes.
All of the groups and music you were "reminded of" were after Boston and could have been inspired by them. Boson, lead by Ton Scholtz, was in a class of their own. Bradley Delp, lead singer, was a fantastic vocalist that didn't understand his "wealth to music in general" and ended up falling into depression so bad that he committed suicide. Tremendous loss.
My all time favorite song! Love it!
I am truly shocked it took you this long to get to Boston. You will be rewarded for reacting to the entire first album, since every one was a banger.
No, sweet mag! It’s Boston! Listen to more! They are great! 😊🤩🙏🏼
Boston was very popular and just "FIRE" during my last 2 years in high school, graduated in 1977, they had many hits by then. Love them! I love every song on their debut album. Noone can replace Brad Delp in my opinion.
Man.
We had some great, great music in the 1970s, when I was in high school. 😎😄😊
My favorite is SSSSSSSMOKIN'!!!
Boston was a league all their own.
Ever since their debut album in 1976!!!
Brad Delp sings higher than Steve Perry but Steve is considered the Voice.
the impact this had in 1976 when it was released as phenomenal. imo nothing sounded like it at the time.
And the effects were produced by manipulation of the instruments and not by "artificial" means.
Dude! Just enjoy the band in front of you- Boston.
Great reaction! 👏
If you want to check out some more songs that have different musical passages, I highly recommend two songs, both by 10cc:
I Wanna Rule the World
and
Don't Hang Up.
Both songs are from their album, titled How Dare You!
You'll thank me later. 🙂
I must be missing something here? It's Boston they sound like Boston. How does 2 or 5 notes make Boston sound like Pink Floyd or Queen. BTW NO ONE sounds like Pink Floyd.
Smokin is the tune I like to listen to while driving my Corvette. I bought the CD just for that reason.
I burned out my original vinyl ablum of this debut and had to buy another... insanely great and unique band... whole first album is absolute gold. its been considered one of the best albums of all time. awesome
Thank you. You're a doll.
You're over thinking it.
I remember being at a Boston marathon, and Beetlejuice band was playing close to Copley square. Brad delp founded it, playing only Beetles songs.
Now to add to the brilliance of the music look closely at the album cover. Notice that it is an upside down acoustic guitar made to look like a futuristic spaceship (blue flame coming out of the sound hole in the guitar body)
Another epic, sequential set of tracks comes from the Album "Third Stage"
I'd recommend the following.... #2) We're Ready, #3) The Launch, #4) Cool the Engines.
Funny how the Toccata & Fugue reference came up. Check out Smokin' (also from the first album), a boogie-rock number where Tom Scholz plays an organ solo that quotes from Toccata & Fugue.
Brad Delp did all of the background vocals in the studio. It wasn't until the last album he recorded with Boston that other people's voices were used in the background chorus. Also, I believe it was on that album that Tom Schultz sang co lead with the female bass player. Brad wasn't on the fourth album except for background vocals on one or two songs. He was also in a Beatles tribute band on the side with the guitarist who played on the first two or three albums.
Fan of them before you were born beautiful
There's a lot of great songs of course (this one included). If i had to pick ONE song, my favorite is 'Don't look back'...'More than a feeling' is a very close second. A lot of these songs are such a staple and such the legendary songs to the ear and a lot of them simply group up at the top as 1, 1a, 1b, etc. (There's no wrong order!) 🎤🎸🥁
Released in 1976, this album was the best selling debut album in history until Guns and Roses finally broke the record in 1998 for Appetite for Destruction, 11 years after it was released
In certain 3rd world countries, they throw Boston interupters off roofs.
I don't expect you to do a reaction to this album, but it's become one of my favourites. Check out "Vanitas + Viriditas (Original Soundtrack)" by Zac Tiessen here on youtube. He's a music prodigy and is 99% self-taught.
One of my all time favorites, such a great road song! Also check out Hitch a Ride, with a great guitar solo!
reminds you of their space ship on their album .. so cool and love the build up
You sing opera but never heard of a fugue?! Whaaaa?!
She's a poser who loves the sound of her own voice.
R.I.P. Sib Hashian drummer of Boston from my hometown In Massachusetts…
Take your time, just take your time.
Blue oyster cult is from Long Island
Thankyou very much Dorky. 1 8
Picture 1976 14 years old I buy this album Russ and I put on record player crank it up smoke Big joint lol listened to whole album our minds just slipped away bye bye
This was the year that I was 20, in my last year of nursing school and engaged to be married once I graduated. We bought this album and I think that by the time we divorced in’88, wore out the vinyl.
Corporate America is a brilliant and very under-rated song featuring Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo on vocals. Equal in quality to their biggest hits.
Hello Renee
Looking forward to this event. 🤓
You should check out the Tom Shultz documentary!!! Fantastic as he is an MIT engineering grad and founding member who plays a lt of instruments!!!
Vocal Cross-Overs like Skid Row's Sebastian Bach, doing Phantom on Broadway!!!
