- To round out the introduction to Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 I'm taking a quick spoiler-filled spin through sandbox mode to go explore a junkyard, rummage around in a barn and pick up something shiny from an auction. I also then take a purchase around the race track and am pleasantly surprised at the new car handling.

I know. I'm nearly 60 years old and I felt like I was in a episode of Blues Clues yelling at the monitor. The only difference was Joe heard my daughter and responded while Colonel just blundered along ignoring my advice. 🤣🤣🤣

Not only is the barn on the map, and occasionally highlighted orange when you select barn in this video. But you yourself pointed out the barn icon on the map in the previous episode of this series.

In the early 1980s my oldest brother had bought a 2-door 1967 Lincoln Continental. It was in good shape, but missing some trim on the right side and had an aftermarket radio.
One day as he was driving past a junkyard, he saw in their holding area for recently acquired cars another 1967 Continental. This one was missing all the trim on the left side and still had the factory radio, but didn't run.
He paid $200 for that car.
However, proving the Colonel's point in the last video, the story ends with him selling both cars to a friend rather than with him removing all the parts he needed from the one and fixing the other.
I don't know what it is, but anytime I watch one of your videos, I find myself wanting to play that game

You went to the test track and I suddenly realized this game needs to tie into Wreckfest. In the immortal words of Latka Gravis: 'I quit!'. I can imagine Kiki, Stella, Stella, and Napoleon working in the repair shop; and that pickup sitting in a creek for a week at the bottom of a ravine.
Some of the best days of my youth was visiting junkyards.

It would be great, is if you could swap out the 6 cylinder in that pickup, for a v8, and take that to the track.

car wash is sort of non-participatory, that's a shame. Press button watch the sudsing action? Weird.
at least it doesn't make you keep track of the bolts you're removing, those are assumed to have been set aside safely and not lost or rolled under a crate or something.
You really have something there with the multi player.
Careful colonel. You just pull over to the side of the road and start rifling through some guys barn and you’re likely to find a shotgun in your face, or maybe hear a shotgun before you feel it.

The handbrake slide at the end made the whole thing for me.

The Mercury is closer to a ‘54 Chevy with a ‘58 rear window. Did spot a Mk1 Granada, E28 BMW, 1960s and late 70s Lincoln Continentals and at least four different years of Cadillac, Renault Clio Williams V6 and possibly a Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Just imagining finding a mostly complete car from the junkyard and doing the bare minimum to get it running, then test tracking XD

When I heard it was closing down, I decided on my last day and gave everything I had away to random people in the lobby. You've never seen so many happy petrol-heads in one place (I'd played since day 1, and while the racing wasn't so much my thing, collecting unique cars really was...)
that would be a great addition, Run What Ya Brung against friends for pink slips, Devs need to pay attention to that suggestion

I would think about buying this, if it had that racing multiplayer on it. The co-op would be fantastic! I agree with you that it would be a major overhaul of the engine to make that work. Maybe one of the next versions :)

I think that yellow number in the junkyard was some kind of new “mini”, it’s not mini though nowadays imho.

In have a feeling that multi-player maybe in their minds, due to the fact that there are multiple benches for the same thing, that way you can both work on different benches.

In the 2018 game a pretty decent way of making money was to go to the junkyard, buy *everything* from the junk heaps, repair whatever you can and then sell it all. I wonder if they adjusted the pricing to avoid that.

The Calliope is a take on the Clio V6 Renault Sport.
I just realized - they called the AE86 "Takumi" ... it doesn't get any more on the nose than that! 😂😂🤣🤣😂
I'd argue that the Supa is slightly more noticeably a Supra, especially as it doesn't require anime proficiency to figure out. :) But yeah, they didn't strain their creative muscle too much when naming cars.
Sounds like you have a hankering for a bit of Street Rod! And actually now i mention it... I think i could get in on some of that action. Now we only need a developer with som talent to grab the idea and run with it.
Back in the early 2000s I worked on a game called Motor City Online. If you've never heard of it, look it up it was brilliant.
@@colonelfailure Motor City Online is my greatest unachieved goal, as I didn't have good enough internet when it was around and it fizzled out by the time I got adequate connection... ;_;
If someone would do a decent remake of that (or Street Rod, I wouldn't complain about that either) I'd be a happy camper. A shame that the Street Rod 3 project got lost in development hell in the pre-crowdfunding and pre-perpetual-development days.
@colonel Failure dont take items lower then 50% from a barn, as its not worth repairing.

Is there a min % on parts in barns that can be repaired? in 18, parts had to be 15% or better (if less than 15%, they couldn't be repaired) and not everything could be repaired (like windows)
It does show you on the map the area changed colour, not sure what colour cus im colourblind, better than being totally blind though ;)

Has this new version improved on the two really big problems of the previous editions?
1) The game has always been an insane memory hog because it has insisted on rendering 3d versions of every single car part in the current location, no matter if you were looking at it or not. Developers often promised to improve on this, but never happened, so on my 2019 MSI laptop, 8 mb, Intel i7, I've had to turn graphics quality and resolution down to almost minimum in order to make it just bearable fps.
2) That damned mouse-emulation thingy. Instead of just using standard mouse control like normal games, CMS (and also Cooking Simulator) has used some weird mouse-emulator-fly-by-wire system, causing movement delays and lack of precision. This problem has also been pointed out numerous times to the developers, but they've always claimed that a) you can just turn the weirdness of from the settings screen, b) that it's not really weird at all, it was in fact wonderful and the weird ones were the complainers, and c) that it was necessary for them to build the game around this mouse-emulator stuff in order for the game to be inter-format convertible.
Mouse control feels fine, but I can confirm that it activates all the cooling in the known world on my pc. Runs as hot as Cyberpunk.
