You can absolutely use a shifter with an integrated adapter plate to a standard transmission if you want to retain it and row gears. Most people eliminate the manual transmission out of convenience and also because of additional parasitic loss from the manual trans. You also have to be cognizant of torque application when using a manual, given the higher levels of torque an electric motor provides.
@@ampereevconversions Regardless of what transmission you use, muscle memory is better than looking for a dial or a push button. I can say this because I have to use industrial equipment that uses silly push button transmission.
@@Smithcraft1I can see how looking down could be a big disadvantage for a work vehicle, but I think for most people out driving their restored classic, having to look down to go into reverse is probably not a problem. I think the buttons are a good solution for a restoration, but in a new EV I do prefer a shifter on the column, mostly because it frees up space but I think it’s a little more satisfying that just pushing a button. But I’m never doing quick maneuvers so it’s mostly a preference.
The restored pick up is beautiful. Very impressive. I look forward to seeing your future builds.
Thank you very much! We will have more videos soon that dive deeper into existing builds and reveal some new ones!

Why doesn't anyone use a shifter instead of buttons/dial?

What would it cost to build a THX 1138 tribute car?

Problem un Virginia... if it's not mass production, it's an SCV.... a virtually useless ride, relegated to parades, shows, and events.
These vehicles are registered as new vehicles by the DOT. Much more than a parade vehicle.
@@ampereevconversions - So is a Shelby CSX... but in Virginia, it's still considered an SCV.
@@JamesCopeland-i1j that's unfortunate for Virginians. We recommend contacting your legislative representative.
