To think that they were panicking that something would go horribly wrong on launch and that Baldur's Gate 3 would go out in infamy for being a disappointment. I think even if that did happen, not only would they have fixed it quickly, but they'd be forgiven and still would have won the GOTY.

Congratulations to everyone at Larian! I only wish this "awards show" would have let us meet more of the winners and see their reactions. Even when they let someone speak they were usherd off as soon as possible to save time for more ads. Astarion dude had more to say... Swen had more to say... NOT an awards show... make a separate event for new releases and let us see the winners during an awards show, not just rattle off the categories as fast as possible.
They had more time at the Golden Joystick awards, Swen and Neil gave nice speeches, dunno if you saw that.

Idk how it won. Never before has such a niche combat system won. I tried to get my friends to play and they hated the top down, turn based combat. I wish they changed that

it is so freaking good. if you liked bioware style RPGs with lots of moral ambiguity and just the best characters, this fills the spot. i barely know anything about DND but i know great writing and this nails it. SO many endings and options and ways to play
I love this game so much. I'm on my second playthrough (I play since August, but I also try to act like a normal adult - job and stuff ;) ) and I know I will play it again. There is so much stuff to discover.
I do not usually like playing a game "solo". I've played Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, etc, and now over 19 years playing World of Warcraft. I play games to hang with friends, adventure with my husband. We started Baldur's Gate 3 back within a week or 2 of launch (not early access) and started playing together, and i started a solo run through. After 2 or 3 times playing together I told my husband I was having more fun with the solo run (as I could decide which paths and decisions to make). He agreed LOL. Now on my second run through and I'm thoroughly addicted. We do have a 4 person co-op game going which is fun but I love adventuring with Astarion, Karlach and the rest of the companions. Since we started playing my son, his girlfriend (she's up to 9 playthroughs), my daughter, her fiance, my husband's brother and a couple of our friends have all become hooked. Hubby and I were late for a WoW raid waiting for the announcement of GotY and really, I'd rather have jumped in to BG3 for the rest of the night than raid LOL.

I am not a turn based RPG fan. Im not a RPG fan.
I love sims, rts, shooters, builders...
Yet each roll is addicting, the combat is just as fun as rts and fluid, the characters are well casted and amazing at their voice acting, the world is immersive and there are so many tiny things.
From being on a cliff and seeing a shiny far below I can go to, or how some characters react to things I do, no matter how dastardly.
Yeah I love this game. I completely get the hype and im here for it.
They did an amazing job with this game. Its really made with heart and soul..never in my life would I be scratching to play a D&D game!

Like i get it ,turn based games arent for everyone. I do dislike 1st person shooter games and such or stuff like elden ring. I wont play them but doesnt mean i cant tell when a game is atleast good or bad to some extent
Being involved in bg3's journey, larian's response to players feedback etc have all being really good esp when triple A studios continue to disappoint a lot
The best part is BG3 won the Player Choice award, the one which most of us expected it to lose to Zelda or Spider-Man 2. But it won, which means nobody can make the excuse that TGA are being jerks about choosing the GOTY.

@@viy4581 The Player Choice is supposed to be the only category that is 100% fan voted. The rest are 10%. And yeah, you're right, there would be a bunch of votes where people didn't actually play BG3 but voted for it anyway.
But that's the beauty of it. You have not just gamers who love games like BG3, there's newcomers who played the genre for the first time and then, we have folks who heard of Larian Studios being so pro-consumer that they had to support them in a time when the gaming industry is so damn greedy.

I am so happy to see how far larian has come. Iirc DOS1 wad a kick starter game and even that was very well done for its age. Then we had DOS2 which was very good and basically a gamble by larian afaik coz if it failed, the studio have been done. Then they gave us BG3
Dud I am also a day 1 ea player. I knew I would love the game but to see how far it blew up is crazy to me. They should have won best ongoing game and just my opinion best soundtrack. (FF16 best soundtrack are very good but the consistence in BG3 is wild)

But thank you what a fucking masterpiece and they really used the genre to its absolute fullest this is the most deep feeling game ive ever played in my life i am only finishing act 2 170 hours in lol but i will replay it, which i never do even with masterpieces like rdr2

I’ve played games inspired by Dungeons and Dragons like KOTOR, Divinity Original Sin 2 (Same developer, lol), Arcane on SNES, and Pillars of Eternity. But never games BASED off of D&D until Baldur’s Gate 3, and actually I’ve never played D&D itself. But after playing BG3…anyone want to break out the dice?

Currently playing BG3 (20 hrs in) and this game made me want to game for hours on end. Definitely could do more play throughs unlike with elden ring even though I loved that game as well
Baulders gate is an AMAZING game. I grew up playing all the originals and this one is a masterpiece. I hope they do a BG4

Larian took such a huge steaming dump on the modern AAA game industry that it is going to force it to change. Maybe not immediately, but it will happen. Having passionate creative visionaries with RESOURCES AND SUPPORT like Swen is SO IMPORTANT. That's how gaming STARTED and GREW - people who loved games making games. Marketing managers taking over the industry sucked all the life out of it and it's coming back now with this and all the amazing indie games.

Maybe for you low life nerds. But for the rest of the general public don’t care about Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s just another one of those generic medieval games with no replay value, probably another live service game, and dull presentation since everything is so dark and color grated.

Its not at all generic, its fantasy theme and lore come from the forgotten realms, a world which has been improved on constantly for more than half a century. One of the games main strengths is its insane replay value, the amount of choices you get and the impact of thoose choices is immense. It can litterally be played offline easily. With the color grading you just need to look at the games cutscenes.
