My dog of 14 years is crossing to the other side tonight. I have been reeling with grief. I went to the piano and saw this song already open in the hymnal, and as I played and sang, my dog came to lie down and listen. I have sent this song to the rest of the family in his memory. It is perfect for him. Praise be to God.
I found a doe and her tiny newborn fawn bedded down in my back yard early this morning. This song immediately came to mind. Glory be to God.
I choose this as the final song at my husband’s funeral. I am grateful for the gift of his life and all the love and support I received from family and friends. Even though it was a sad occasion, there is so much on earth to be thankful for. This song plays in my head when I walk by the ocean❤️

On this day, five year ago, my husband passed away, and today when I took quite moment to commemorate the day he went home to His father's house, God moved my heart to play this song and found your comment, and your words even give me new strength to continue my life without him coz there's much on earth to be thankful for, as you said. This song is what my husband and I chose for our wedding in my parents’ backyard. One man’s voice singing with an acoustic guitar. Listening to it takes me back to that day. This year is our 12th anniversary and we have 3 beautiful children. Truly, our hymn of grateful praise.

I've been hearing this hymn in my mind of late and when my eldest texted a beautiful pic of hill and sky in Colorado, I was moved to find and share this song with my 4 children. It was my Dad Father Jack coming through. He always said after he lost my brother to suicide that he was his eyes in the woods, the snow, the beauty of this Earthly world. It was so therapeutic to weep with love and joy. Thank you Creator, for the beauty of our World.

You call it contemporary but still the contemporary line in the last verse is "to the world so freely given" not "to our race so freely given"... Otherwise a beautiful rendition. Thank you.
To 'Our Race' is as it should be. To 'Our World' is ludicrous. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself said that the World was condemned already. 'Our Race' is simply those who believe in Christ Jesus, whether Jew or Gentile! There are two 'Races' on God's earth, the circumcised in heart, and the uncircumcised in heart. Don't be so precious that you lose sight of your Saviour.
Political correctness is not contemporary. It's just oppressive. By the way, the phrase obviously refers to the HUMAN RACE. All of us.
They've changed the words and taken the gospel message of salvation out of the hymn. Evil vandalism of a sacred song.
