FROM KIROVO-CHEPETSK ON THE KARINSKAYA NARROW-GAUGE RAILWAY TO THE MUSEUM OF RUSSIAN RAILWAYS

One of the popular tourist spots in the Kirov region suddenly became a narrow-gauge railway - a common thing in Soviet times, now a rarity.
The narrow-gauge road from Kirovo-Chepetsk towards Karintorf was built during the Great Patriotic War, when enterprises needed cheap local fuel - peat. Then the village of Karintorf was founded. It still seems to have frozen in the 50-60s.
With the abandonment of peat by the local thermal power plant in the 2000s, by and large, the road became unnecessary for the economy. And then she would have closed, but it turned out that the narrow-gauge railway is an important link between the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk and Karinthorf across the river and floodplain meadows, which is problematic to get to in a different way in rasputitsa.
As a result, the narrow-gauge railway has been preserved to this day and as an exotic began to attract tourists. A few years ago, the road was transferred to the Railway Museum created in Kirovo-Chepetsk. Now they not only transport local residents there, but also organize excursions.
