#DoctorWho #Reaction
There's an interview with Steven Moffat around somewhere where he said this was actually a backup script for the series. He read it and fell in love with it, so he actually bumped out another story in order to make this one. It's one of my favourites from Matt's era.
"You are turning me into you!" Rory is spitting facts right there.
God, this episode just rips your fucking heart out.
One of two 11, Amy and Rory episodes I watch when I need a good cry.
Every time...
I love your emotional reaction to her conversation with herself 🥹 I was crying with you
This episode has the most perfect description of love I've ever heard. When she's talking about Rory being the most beautiful man she's ever met.
Absolutely. The people we love become the most beautiful people ever, to us, because that's a part of what love's power does.
"I care we didn't grow old together!" Rory... Man, I wanna be like him though... He's so cool!
This episode and Rory saying "you're turning me into you" always makes me think of what Davros says: "The man who abhors violence, never carrying a gun, but this is the truth, Doctor: you take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons... behold your Children of Time, transformed into murderers. I made the Daleks, Doctor, you made this."
Honestly, I love the Ponds and 11th. But this is that one story where you can REALLY see how dark and cold the Doctor is, even though he wants to keep playing the "baby face silly Doctor", sticking his tongue out and making jokes. He straight up lied to all of them, sacrificed one of her friends knowing she wouldn't be able to survive AND gives, to his other companion, the choice that basically makes Rory a murderer.
Rory couldn't have put it better "This isn't fair, you're turning me into YOU."
It's what always happens, the Doctor projects himself into his companions, makes them want to be like him and it always goes BAD.
It even happens with old Amy, she survives until her last second by basically becoming like the Doctor, she even has a sonic probe (screwdriver).
The girl who waited is definitely one of the best and saddest episodes of doctor who
At first I never understood why people loved this episode, I found it predictable "of course we want to save younger Amy so that the dark timeline gets rewritten" since that's a common trope. But I finally get it now, you take that trope and say "but what if the person from the dark timeline doesn't want to cease to exist? what if they want to be saved too?" and the drama comes from that impossibility. A very sci-fi what if thing - who deserves saving more? Who's wishes are more important?
It's one of those episodes that could easily have been made into a theatrical movie. It was so well done.
Thanks, Jay! ⏳ That's another fine example of why the Doctor-Amy-Rory dynamic is my favorite of all, thus far.
This episode just kills me in so many ways.
I can imagine being old Amy, waiting for so long, becoming so jaded and angry, then allowing myself some hope again, but then finally accepting my life is over so the man I love can have the best version of me instead, and finally allowing the robots to do their "kindness"... because it really is a kindness as opposed to staying there alone.
I can imagine being young Amy and realizing the Doctor let a version of me die, alone.
I can imagine being Rory, faced with that impossible choice, grateful that older Amy took the burden of choosing off my shoulders, and really holding onto some hatred of the Doctor for a while afterwards.
I can imagine being the Doctor, having to lie to my best friend (both versions) and Rory, knowing that it was the only way Amy could be saved at all, thrusting that choice on Rory so that he would totally understand the stakes, and hating myself for every stupid mistake I made that led to this.
And Every. Single. Point of view. Is heart-breaking! Sometimes, this show plays hell with our emotions... and that's what makes it so good.
Quite simply, one of the greatest time travel stories ever made. Devastating.
Tom MacRae who wrote this ep, also wrote a very successful musical (famous in the UK at least) called Everybody's Talking About Jamie in 2017, so a few years after TGWW, and there's a song in ETAJ called "If I Met Myself Again' where the main character's mum sings about how, if she met herself again, she'd warn herself to stay away from all these terrible men and not make the same stupid mistakes, but then ends the song by saying that if she DID do that, then she wouldn't have her son, who is the centre of her life, so actually she wouldn't change a thing, and watching this vid made me realise that basically he took the whole plot of TGWW and turned it into a song. It's a lovely song btw, and well worth a listen. Maybe it's secretly about Amy...?
This episode always breaks me. I started crying probably halfway through this reaction just thinking about what was coming.
This episode is just a masterpiece!
Pretty sure that Karen Gillian won an award for this episode.
Nominated, but The Doctor's Wife won.
This one was the one where I started to truly love the Ponds.
It doesn't work that way.
@@chrislambert9903 Yeah it does
this episode is so gooood, man i miss this season. love you jay :**
I think the doctor meant that because it's the no1 destination in the universe, everyone opens up coffee shops to cash in on all the visitors
Great episode, love the somber ending.
One of my favorite episodes.
This show man...Rory is the man! Amy and Rory are such a great couple
This episode is just brutal. 😢
this make me think all the times we said that if we have the chance we would change our past. would we really sacrifice who we are know just for a diferent version of ourselves if we change sth?
karen was amazing in this, 10/10.
I was a blubbering mess the first time I saw this one 😭
This one is brutal!
Been waiting for this one cause in my opinion is the best episode of season 6 🥺💜
This one is always a tough episode to watch
Oh my heart 😭😭
Watching this again from your video made me realize that Amy at the beginning saying “I’ve been here a week” DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Because later in the episode - old Amy says “put their hands together learned that on my first day”. It doesn’t match up with the time stream as they show us. She doesn’t see the first bot until after she talks to her boys and goes into facility which is after a week not the first day. ANYWAYS let me know your thoughts
Maybe she meant the first day since she entered the rest of the facility after the Doctor told her to leave the lobby
@@Zreen001beat me to the explanation
@@Zreen001 makes sense but then my brain goes to wtf was she doing for a week, how did she eat or drink, did she just sit there for a week lol thanks for sharing your thoughts
@@Zreen001 I watched the episode again and retract my second statement
❤❤❤❤
Hey buddy! When are you gonna start reacting to season 4 of Torchwood? It's been like 3 months now.
Let's be honest though, season 4 sucks especially compared to the other seasons
