I'm returning to this tutorial after 6 years, when I tried it out for the first time. I had felt so proud of the outcome. Today I decided to practice an apple in watercolour again, and I searched out this video and happily painted away! Thank you for the interesting take, on an ordinary apple!! 🍎
Hi there. Two years ago in my junior year which art class is compulsory, our teacher assigned us to paint an apple. Everyone else drew the outline of the shape of an apple and painted the entire outline dry on dry. They colored the whole outline with a single shade of pure red. Me, on the other hand, looked up for tutorials on painting an apple. I stumbled across yours. After about a million (I exaggerated) attempts, I finally successfully painted a beautiful painting of apple. It's not that beautiful but it looks good to me. I posted it online and got so many compliments. They even thought I'm a painting expert. Even my art teacher couldn't believe I painted it.
Thanks so much for this thorough tutorial.
There's a whole other dimension to be discovered that isn't as hard to find as our minds like to suggest.
I don’t normally write comments but I followed this tutorial and I now look like I can paint. I look at the picture and can’t believe I painted it. Thanks! :)
Best Apple tutorial ever . Though I would stop at a certain point when the apple still looks pretty.
Every time he added paint I was like "awee he ruined it." and then i was like, "oh! no he didn't"
guys guys no matter what it had turned out to be at least you guys tried and im glad u did...
First I painted your way with under painting then did my another one without underpainting. Totally different and your way is much better. Finally getting the hang of watercolor. Thank you.
Love this video. Thank you.
I love the shades you have used. The end result is stunning. Thank you for sharing this technique.
Please help me!
I don't understand why he used blue in the beginning.
I need help cause I'm just starting watercolor.
I also have a lot of trouble with expressive color, this was very helpful to me! Thank You...Also if you put that reflective light on the bottom of your apple the shadow will be easy to define from the apple.
I like your rebellious attitude. Artists' use of representational painting have produced some of the most enduring works of art!
This helps so much especially for someone like me who would only use shades of red to paint an apple! Thank you. :D
Wow I have just painted the best apple thanks to you - would never have thought of underpainting in blues and purples but it's fantastic. Thank you.
I love what you did here, I just painted my first botanical apple and I like the expression here. Thanks!
Wow I just painted an apple yesterday and today, it’s a new day for a new apple 🙏🏻
I did the undercoloring technique with acrylics I was amazed at how it came out
If you look closely, the expressiveness of the image can also be a landscape that can be seen in the front of the image. The highlight looks like a sun and peaks and valleys of the shadows look like buildings or canyon high mountains like in Arizona dessert. Its really cool! Thanks for sharing and I hope you see it too.
Stunning! I am going to try my own apple painting today based on this. Thanks Virtual Instructor.
If I did this, I'm pretty sure it would look like one big giant blob lol. Nice job. :)

STEVE JOB would b proud of u...
If you don't have watercolor paper, you can put some tape in the borders and pre-wet it before painting. You apply water in the paper and wai it to dry before painting, it will prevent it to wrinkle. It works better for 100g-250g paper. After 300g you don't need to pre-wet. =)
Very expressive!
