Exactly. I was actually just watching a video about an hour ago that, while very well put together and informative, recommended a "budget light" that was $1,200. This may be a budget for an established videographer or someone that is well-off, but it's well out of the range of being affordable for the average hobbyist/beginner.
The CRI is much higher with the $300 setup. Without the comparison you probably won't notice, but if you know what you're looking for, the differences are there.
@@swancoffeehouse5983 Yes, the LED strips were pretty green. Workable though. Getting high CRI LED strips would fix the problem and still cost less than the comparison.
"or/then you can buy a broom stick for one dollar, tape it on that and stick it in a pot with dirt (silence)" had me laughing out loud. Yes, sir, no excuses, sir!
Not only was this well done and informative, it was just perfectly funny too! As to the difference between the $30 & $300 setups.. Pretty close, with some good editing no one but a pro might notice? oh and subscribed!
Thrift Shop is the way to go. I used LED flood lights that screw into a normal socket and bought a socket from HomeDepot for I think $2. I have two large totes filled with cords (I keep all power cords to everything) so I had cords to wire into the sockets, otherwise you can buy a cheap two-prong extension cord from the dollar store. The sockets bolt into the center of the pans. I also used dollar store shower curtains as well for diffusing. For stands I mounted some on PVC pipe and a few fittings, some on just a heady duty clip from the dollar store, and one on an extra tripod I had bought from the thrift shop for $3. All together my lights cost about the same as yours. I did a 5 point light system and bought a few yards of green fabric for green screening (although with the filters built into video editing apps, green screening is practically obsolete). Same as you, I ended up duct taping the diffusing plastic to the bowls. I did make an enormous light that was about 9 square feet using about 10 sheets of dollar store foam board, hot glue, and aluminum foil. With the lights mounted inside it weighed so much I had to build a special stand for it out of 2x4's and a large gate hinge to tilt it. I put that one on wheels and used it for a lot of product photography.
Brilliant start to 2021! Now I'm even more excited to pimp out my home office with the new stimmy! Also, I need more videos with the character that starts at 0:11 seconds in. Like, an entire video, please.
@@TylerRostedt I feel like that is a real estate joke that I don't get, but I appreciate the comment back, man. By the way, I've always wanted to ask - have you ever considered doing a video where you speak in Australian for part of it? Maybe it doesn't make sense with your channel, but I've always wanted to hear someone who's fluent do like a sentence or two. I love the twang you have when you speak, and just saying I think it'd be cool to incorporate here or there. I can't speak it myself, but boy oh boy do I have one of the best Australian accents you've ever heard.
man only halfway through your video and the presentation is good and others are doing a budget $200 setup, you did it actualy budget friendly. I have subbed liked and also notified ! Keep it up!
Nice video! it was good to see being creative in finding better ways to meet the budget filmmaking :) I think if you adjust the greenish colour casting from the budget light you made, it could look really good!
Heyyyyy Danny Oh. Watched a bunch of your videos after finding you on clubhouse. Yeah I had wanted to mention the color cast from the cheap strips but left it out of the final edit. Definitely not the highest CRI on $7 strips. But was able to tweak it pretty easily with temp and hue adjustments. Thanks for the love brother.
4:13 I would have tried some steel stik from j-b weld by drilling the hole larger and then just setting it in with that putty. Heck! I might just try that myself!
i made jugad light after seeing indian youtubers.. but u guys went ahead....but finally i realised buying a cheap softbox and light is way to go to save time (time is money)
Spring for high CRI LED strips and you may well match that $300 setup for just $60, max. Or if portability and power consumption are of no concern, get those aluminum dish work light fixtures, and halogen bulbs. Nice warm light with sunlight level CRI. I love halogen, but it just isn't portable because they use a lot of power and need plugged in.
For a mounting solution, depending on how much thread you have to work with, you can just buy a nut from the hardware store and thread it on from the inside. If you get a locknut, or stack two on top of them, it's not going anywhere... Also, a strong threadlock is the way to go when installing threadserts metal-metal. *If I planned on using these consistently, what I would probably do, personally, is make an adapter. Get a peice of thick dowel, drill both ends for threadserts, one side for your stand, the other so you can thread a longer piece of all-thread, or even a bolt from the other side. That way you can do exactly what I mentioned above.* If you have a bolt that is too long, thread a nut onto it before passing it through the inside of the light, into the threadsert. That way you can tighten it again the bowl wall.
Great stuff. At a minimum, these give you a super affordable way to get started. By chance did you noticed how consistent the white point was between each light? Crazy times in post? Regardless, thanks Tyler . . . excellent video!
Excellent concept, you show how to do this cheaply, but still showcase your skill for the sponsor. Photography involves a lot more than just lights. You are so pro that you could probably make shots look good with a cigarette lighter! If I ever need a video or photo guy, I'll keep you in mind. Quick question, how many LED's for the powerful light, how many centimeters long?
Oh my god. This is so good ❤ Did you use cold or warm white lights? Wonder if that's the main difference between your lamps and the expensive ones! The copper bowl, is it copper color inside? I'm going shopping right away 😂❤
The problem with cheap LES stripes is that they have low CRI (RA). If you buy something with CRI >90 or CRI >95 the result be similar to 300$ Light. And prize for CRI>90 shouldn’t be much morę expensive that the cheapest one
Thank you for the video! This is a good idea, I'm still thinking of what to make the basis for my future lamp so that it is durable, now I think that your option may suit me. Greetings from Russia!)
4:30 that facial expression. lmao!! Very entertaining video! Id have questions though if the person that was doing headshots had ducktape all over the place..... 🤣🤣
I’m starting to believe the majority of the price for professional lighting comes from the housing, cool features (not necessary), and convenience. I don’t think they’re using proprietary bulbs or some magic you can’t buy on your own. Edit: I should add I think this about continuous lighting. I’m not sure how to diy speed lights.
The reason your lights are not as good as the studio lights is that you have to look up strips that have a CRI rating of 95+. With those they should be as good as any studio lights.
Bro how does this man make such good content! Sheesh he gonna be famous one day!
We gotta keep up with big twitch streamers like YaBoiLMoney. 🙌🏻 Appreciate you brother!
This guy gets it. So many camera channels think "budget" means like $1200. This is totally ghetto but effective.

This is the lighting setup I need at the moment. Thanks for the extremely brief tutorial on the sick product video too
Appreciate your comment! Glad I could help. They really do work good for the price!
rarely I find such a QUALITY content! thanks!
I think on the $30 set up, if you put a more "warm" lighting with it. It would look more "genuine" to the $300 light setup
My thoughts exactly. Because the only difference I can see between the two is that the $30 light makes his face look more washed out
Awesome... Honestly, your DIY on this budget lighting trend has been the best so far. Well detailed, and most importantly, FUN.!
What! I don’t even need to produce any content and I want to make one of these lights!! Great comparison video, totally worth it 🙌

OMG how am I just finding your channel. You are amazing, these videos are brilliant! Thank you
"...in a bucket with some dirt " caused me to spit on my monitor from snort laughing. Thank you for your service.
Cool project! Would love to see more stuff like this.
This needs more love!! Funny and educational. Love it
the examples at 6:30 are SAUCE. its sick that they are RGB color too
For mounting you could make use of "rivet nuts" or spare adhesive gopro mounts.
Cool idea! Once the snow melts I can get some dirt for my next light stand.
Great video. Colour grade the thrift setup = winning!
Thanks Devon! Looking forward to see yours!
Jono bring me here!! BRuh this is fire x,D!!
Jono is the man! Thanks dude! 🙏🏼
Such a very useful video for me to save money for start a youtube channel. Thanks a lot
You are a God send my boy!!! Thank you for showing the fails too saving me so much time and money

Great ideas! Absolutely will be trying this out!
Thanks for the love Alex! Looking forward to Van content 🙏🏼

Thank you

Very nice setup

Sans the greenish hue on the budget option - $30 bucks wins. Easily correctable in camera or in post.

@@TylerRostedt HAHAHA I just now got it. Classic my man
All you need is to find led strips with a high CRI and this would look like the $300 set.
Biggest problem in the DIY lighting is the low CRI value that makes the colors bad. If you fix that you get much better outcome.
what would happen after colourcorrection?
Fantasti!
The reason your lights are not as good as the studio lights is that you have to look up strips that have a CRI rating of 95+. With those they should be as good as any studio lights.
I think you should make a video stressing the importance of high CRI
Excuse me while I go to the dollar store... now where can I find some dirt 🧐
BYU landscaping should be able to help you out.

you can buy a brroomstick and you can stick that in a bucket with some dirt! ahahahahaa im laughing out loud fuck sake :D
literally the only difference is the warmth of the light. and that could be fixed in post
4:27 😂😂
That seems to be the common feedback so far 🤡
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, TYLER?! 😢
Double sided 3M tape
Miles Teller look alike
Neat
Why dont you use just halogen lamp instead of led. Cheap Leds color rendition is poor.
the 300 dollar light are 4 times better than the 30
And 10x the price. It's not about the quality as much as return on investment. And with teaks I believe they can rival them even closer.
