I recently purchased a huge coin collection from a family. Most of the coins we collected prior to 1980. This video features 2 Dansco-style Albums (pre-1970) filled with Key Date, Semi-Key Date Silver Barber Half Dollars worth a lot of money
The Barber Half Dollar is a fifty-cent coin in the United States that was designed by Charles E. Barber, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. It is part of a series of coins that also includes the Barber Dime and the Barber Quarter. The Barber Half Dollar was minted from 1892 to 1915.
Here are key features of the Barber Half Dollar:
Obverse Design: The obverse (front) side of the coin features a bust of Liberty facing right, wearing a Phrygian cap with laurel leaves. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed above, and the date is located below.
Reverse Design: The reverse (back) side of the coin showcases an eagle with outstretched wings, perched atop a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" encircle the eagle.
Designer: Charles E. Barber designed both the obverse and reverse of the coin. The design is characterized by a more classical and utilitarian style.
Composition: Barber Half Dollars are composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, adhering to the standard composition for U.S. silver coins during that time.
Mintage Years: The Barber Half Dollar was minted from 1892 to 1915, with various mint marks indicating the production facility.
Collectibility: Barber Half Dollars are collected by numismatists, and certain years and mint marks can be more valuable than others. Like other Barber coinage, the 1892-O Barber Half Dollar is known for its rarity.
Successor: The Barber Half Dollar was succeeded by the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916, which featured a new and more artistic design.
The Barber Half Dollar, like other coins in the series, is appreciated for its historical significance and is collected by those interested in U.S. numismatics.
