Stocking up and doing all things winter preparedness. A little every day and hopefully I’ll be where I want to be by mid October. If I give myself deadlines I’ll work more diligently lol! Keep going everyone🙏🏻
I used to do medical home visits in my job. I don't have prescription glasses, and have always worn cheap "readers" which are just magnification glasses of various strengths. I have usually bought them at the dollar store for $1.00 or $1.25. More recently I buy the better quality online, under the search term "reading glasses." When a patient I was visiting sometimes had broken glasses or couldn't find their prescription glasses to sign my visit form, I would offer my glasses to help them see. All of them were helped tremendously just with these cheap glasses. "Oh, my GOODNESS!" they would say, and some of them said they were better than their own glasses. My suggestion, therefore, is to buy a few dollar store or drug store reading glasses in the strengths most suitable to you and have them as extras. For a few dollars you can have several pairs and never be without glasses if you are waiting for your prescription I have a pair on right now, and practically live in them. I wear two different magnifications, one for computer work and another one for reading a book or small print. Dollar store glasses are great at times when you are standing in the store and you cannot read an ingredients label or a sticker on a piece of fruit, even with your glasses on. Whip out your cheap readers and put them on top of your glasses. Voila! Everything gets bigger. Have a nice evening!
I buy Dollar Tree glasses and better 'readers' but I also have conditions that warrant Rx most of the time. I got extra strong readers as they may come in handy.
One punctual workaround could be this: open the camera on your smartphone (if you have one, naturally) and zoom up those ingredients or the price of something. I have all sorts of other conditions, I need glasses all the time beyond reading. In fact, my eye doctor told me not to buy any more glasses but first have my cataracts operated on. Plus one more thing that may be an age thing with fluctuating eyesight: dryness / eyedrops to moisten your eyes. Or put a warm damp washcloth over your eyes for a few minutes. Meaning, yes, keep getting those eyes checked regularly from a certain age on!
@@joycef8443 I have a big fruit bowl full of them, left over from when I was working. I use them when I cannot find my better made ones that I buy online. You are very smart, as I found I was always sitting on them, tossing them in the wash in a shirt pocket or lying on them, so I went through them pretty quickly. I would also unintentionally leave them at patient's homes.
Taking vitamin d3 for 4 years and only had a slight cold briefly one time. So vitamin d3 helps, need to take 8ooo which is two caplets a day. NHS says only 400, not enough.
Remember too that you can get your glasses frames re-glazed with your new prescription. I did this with both my distance and reading glasses and it was a heck of a lot cheaper than buying new frames as well. Ask at your opticians.
I have to get mine checked every year due to macular degeneration and the start of cataracts. My prescription rarely changes, but it is good to identify any medical conditions with your eyes early on.
I have got my specs reglazed due to having eye surgery and the specs being quite recent. However the last time I needed to do this it was actually cheaper with the Specsavers offers to get new frames as well. I always have a spare pair of specs and prescription sunglasses too for driving ( varifocals) using the offers.🎉
The first of my waterproof jackets has been done with Nikwax Tech Wash and is now going through a cycle with the waterproofing stuff. 2 more to go and then I know they're all up for the winter weather. The winter boots are getting the leather conditioner and waterproofing treatment too - the route to the supermarket becomes a bog after prolonged rain. Not having a car, wherever I go, I'm out in the elements.
I go every year (to same local optician) and have the full eye test, have done since I was 40 as my mother and grandmother both had glaucoma and so my pressures and field vision have to be tested every year. So mine (and hubbie's) annual is due October. Also for insurance purposes, if you have a car accident and you need spectacles and your current prescription is not up to date, the insurance can nullify your claim. Also, opticians can alert your Gp to certain health conditions that actually show up in the eye first, for further testing, such as MS which my sisters optician picked up first. They dont tell you as such obviously but suggest you make appointment with Gp and alert them to what has been spotted -in my sisters case, signs of damage on the optic nerve.
You've reminded me that i need lightbulbs and batteries too. thanks :) Oh and make sure to get some of the button cell batteries if your car key fob uses those. don't want to get stranded coz the fob wont turn the immobiloiser off if no juice left in the fob battery.
I get new glasses every year due to an neurological condition. It changes very slightly, but i always keep my previous glasses. They are close enough to still use, so i always have a spare set. Also prescription sunglasses are a game changer!
I regularly use my previous glasses to locate my present ones whenever I have not put them "where I ALWAYS put them!"... 😂 I really ought to get big fat frames in neon colours next time... 😅
Ive got to do my winter car maintenance. I need new tires, but that's gonna have to be a saving process. Winter Gloves , Hats , Scarves, need to check on. Medicine for winter is definitely needs to be stocked up on. An canned foods if we are to sick to cook like chicken soup, jello , hydration powders.
My inspection sticker is up in October for my car. I’m going to get an oil change at the same time so I can get two things done at the same time and get them both out of the way!
Definitely stock up, my list is paracetamol, cold and flu drinks, candles, matches, batteries, toilet roll and soap powder this week. I live in a village with no shops and uber eats etc do not deliver here so if we are sick you need to have things at hand or it's a 10-15 min drive each way.
Good reminders, especially the batteries. Arrived home thenither fay to my smoke detector chirping, so that was another journey to get a pack for all four detectors in the house. Thank goodness for YT as it wasn't very clear how to detach the unit from the ceiling base.
If it helps we buy the ones with the batteries in (fire angel) and write the date they expire on with a sharpie, also YT 'Under the Median' recommend testing all alarms on Jan first each year which I thought was very clever although I would probably do it Nov 5th on Guy Fawkes just before we start burning season for the log burner. Hope this helps
@@TiggersMum13 Bonfire Night makes sense as a good time to check them.😊 Our detectors are hardwired into the electrical wiring and the battery is there just in case of a power outage.
I have usb and solar lights so should be ok. stocked up on blankies and a decent sleeping bag. I have a shaggy rug for my living room which has helped keep me warm in winter.
Thanks for the reminder about glasses... While i sincerely hope we don't get a whole new lockdown because of the mpox➡️the opticians and dentists shut down for months last time
That reminds me to get light bulbs thanks. I rarely use batteries now. I was thinking about getting an alarm clock the old fashioned kind . And maybe a wind up torch or radio. I have a big torch radio with lights but keep forgetting to charge it. What do you use. I have some scented candles but none of actual proper candles. I remember when we had portable calor gas heaters with the flames. Before central heating. They were great for heating the rooms up. My dad would get the canisters in the car or have them delivered. I dont have anything like that apart from one spare electric radiator i got when my boiler was broken. I sometimes use that when i dont want to put the heating on and just need a wee bit of heat near me.
calor gas heater were great but you must have a CO2 alarm and carbon monoxide as they caused quite a number of deaths,. I am sure htey are safe if you have a well ventilated room and the detectors though.
I've been buying the pain meds this month ready for winter, next month will be cold meds, 2 packs a week should see the pair of us through a weeks worth of colds.
We both got new Rxs and new glasses, plus I have cheap readers and extra strong nes just in case. We've had dental work done. We're getting as many tests as they will give us, even though we have to wait for them. We are picking up medical Rxs as soon as we can and overlapping if we can; (I cut back on those I can and keep them) and we are refilling ones we don't use all the time, just in case. Over-the-counter medications , etc have been stocked.
You have got me ordering extra AA & AAA rechargeable batteries, an extra recharger, extra kirkland 300m foil.... Soon be the logs order for the winter 😁
I have enough batteries as have been stocking up monthly. I need to check my bicycle lights are working. I need to stock up on more dried food and canned stew in case I can't nbe bothered to go out if it is too cold or if I get sick or slip on ice.
Buy LED bulbs, smart bulbs if you can. they will use a tiny percentage of electricity compared to incandescant bulbs. Rechargeable batteries arn't that much more expensive than standard. If you need to carry oil in a car it's either a 50 year old car or there is something very wrong with engine. I get an eye test every 2 years through work.
@MaryGibbons-zx4xf I've found no detrimental effect on paint work! Wash the car in it every month! To stop freezing I just add alcohol to it in winter.
Well you have obviously sat through and watched the whole video, why bother if it upsets you so much. Others here enjoy Karen's videos, I do believe you are in the minority with your opinions.
Remember lavender is an antihistamine, peppermint, eucalyptus are decongestant, thyme and rosemary helps with chest congestion.

I am in the USA and have a woodstove I buy a load of wood through out the year every month that is the only way I can afford it
I am on as .

Yep. Need to stock up on cold/flu stuff.
Great minds think alike it seems. Wrote a list yesterday, for light bulbs and screen wash, and checked when I'm due an eye test.
Eyeglasses -- oh, right, I need to update mine, as well. Thanks for the reminder!

You can get 3 packs in pound shop. No limit I don’t think.
Legally in the UK you can only get two packets at a time to stop overdose but if they do more sounds like they didn't get the memo!

Replace light bulbs with LED bulbs, same fixture, cheaper to run and last for years

Why screen wash? Just add washing up liquid to water.
It is detrimental to car paint and polish. Also, it doesn't lower the freezing point of the fluid like proper screen wash.
