Can a person be a hero without being honorable? Weapons like the blade in his sword handle aren't very honorable weapons in those times. Just an opinion. Maybe I'm off
I'm no japanese, no samurai but i know enough to hear my wife saying: Don't go after Zatoichi! Doing the opposite is like facing Mike Tyson, insulting him and spending the rest of evening collecting you own teeth: very, very silly!
@@cheerful_crop_circle Well, it's a saga going from early '60 to XXI Century and don't know how many movies. Found through Kitano's and went all the way back.
And yet, he more than held his own! he exploited Ichi's smaller/weaker blade and nearly won. Unexpectedly, he wanted to win like a true samurai, with his opponent on their feet, and Zatoichi took that opportunity to use his hidden blade. From my recollection, this may be the closest Ichi came to losing blade to blade. He also had a close call in "Zatoichi Challenged" but was forced to throw away his sword.
@@sullywinn4225 Yep, but Ichi plays always at handicap (no pun invented) so... Anyway, yes, i know samurais had right to cut anyone, anywhere, anytime if lower caste but i'm not keen to those who strike down women so my heart isn't bleeding. And yes, he acted right to Ichi. Yes, remember the blade-crack issue but don't remember what was the ending, but Ichi cutting bad guy down. That's always my favorite part...
Japanese movies from this era are so much better than Chinese. The sound effects were top tier for the time, their choreography was excellent, and the films were just more fun to watch. I respect the Chinese classics, mainly because some of my favorite martial arts films wouldnt exist without the classics, but its like watching children play fight, while the sound effects are so muffled they make me cringe. These are probably the best Japanese martial arts/swordfighting movies ever made.
Actually, the Chinese were influenced by chanbara movies. The template for martial arts movies is Sugata Sanshiro. Zatoichi 's production company Daiei was a well oiled machine for period dramas during this era. They had amazing directors, cinematographers , editors and writers. The japanese are great storytellers.

I was so impressed with his films I bought the beautiful box set of DVD’s. Great series of films.
4:09, hidden knife in the hilt. Cool. Ingenious.
まさか持ち手側にも仕込んであったなんて…

万里昌代さん好きだったですね〜どの役も薄幸な女の演技が上手かったですね🤔🙄🥰
素晴らしい間合いですね!

The old swordsmith cautioned him in a previous movie that his blade had a tiny crack near the handle and would break when struck there.
In the same film, the smith switched his blade out with a new one. Also, the smith happened to be an apprentice of whoever made Ichi's first sword.
That was 9 films later.
He switched the blade without him knowing, a parting gift
座頭市と浪人との戦いの前の音楽、ゴジラを聞いている感じがしました
Amazing film.thank you very much
Two sweaty men in a swamp, honor before a life in peace.
But the legend of Zatoichi must go on.

The true master never gives up....and this is exactly why!!!😊

The bad guy Samurai looks a bit like Toshiro Mifune.
まさに起死回生のシーン!市っつぁん、良く遣った!
Magnificent sword fighting, I love it !! ❤❤❤ ( 06-14-24 ) Friday
A gunfight in a western can never compete with this. No way
Or we can just enjoy things from different cultures and genres without making it a competition.
a legend

Is Zatoichi very popular?

Zatoichi El Fugitivo
Ichi needed a Hantori Hanso steel
I could see a version of this where Ichi goes to Washington and has to deal with the vermin there.
Ya that would be awesome, but these scumbag democrats are untouchable at this point. Even a blind man can see that!
It's on us now brother.
Intense.
I thought that was Akemi getting thrown off the horse for a split second
Fighting in the spirit world is still possible to cut with steel
