    These are the steps summarised from the video. Is there anything important I missed
    1. Obtain a tissue sample
    2. Extract relevant fragments-STRs
    3. PCR-amplify so there's enough to manipulate in lab
    4. Gel electrophoresis-Separate fragments
    5. Visualise results

  • @BenRulez420
    @BenRulez420 10 лет назад

    3/2. are same step. PCR works to amplify specific segments so that you don't have to use enzymes to cleave the DNA to obtain fragments.

  • @neilbanaman
    @neilbanaman 11 лет назад

    The PCR relies on primers designed to anneal to specific target sequences, such as those present in the STRs.

    Yes this is true. They have the same DNA as identical twins come from the same fertilised egg that has split, so they are identical genetically. However fingerprints are formed while the foetus is developing in the womb and is influenced by many environmental factors, such as the position of the foetus in the womb and the amniotic fluid swirling round the fingertips which forms every individual ridge. Therefore theoretically no two people can have the same fingerprints including identical twins.

    Of the 3 billion bases, only narrow stretches are of interest for fingerprinting. The selection is through the specificity of the primers. Is that correct?

    hi can someone explain to me how do we precisely excise out all the tandem repeats? I know you use a probe to attach to the start of the tandem repeat and then you PCR it but the thing is wont the probe have a multitude of sites to bind to- as they are tandem repeats"

    • @dangthatscool1
      @dangthatscool1 7 лет назад +1

      The PCR primers bind to sites on either side of the STR area, before the repeat (ex. ATGATGATG) has actually begun, and after that repeat has ended. The sequences that precede and follow each STR site are unique, and so we design our PCR primers to stick to those sequences. The PCR process then makes copies of everything inside these PCR primer "bookends." Those copied products will be longer if there are more repeats between the primers and shorter if there are fewer repeats.

    Not only smart, but artistic and creative. Because left handed people use the right part of the brain, which is more of arts/creativity. While right handed people uses left part of the brain, which is, however, more of analysis and logic. If a person is both artistic/creative and analytic/logical, then he/she is equally dominant, like me :D

    Left handed people tend to use way more both hands than right handed people, so left handed use both sides of the brain and "excercise" with it more than right handed. So they can actually be more "smart" altought this is not yet proved. (im in the med school)
