- How do we tell people apart by using their DNA? From murder investigations to paternity testing, DNA fingerprinting is an essential tool in the modern world. But how is it carried out? Find out in the latest Naked Science Scrapbook!More videos and podcasts from www.thenakedsci...
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! I finally understod what the heck my bio teacher has been talking about this whole time. Please keep posting videos :D
Kat MC YOU KNOW THATS RIGHT!!!!!
same
These are the steps summarised from the video. Is there anything important I missed
1. Obtain a tissue sample
2. Extract relevant fragments-STRs
3. PCR-amplify so there's enough to manipulate in lab
4. Gel electrophoresis-Separate fragments
5. Visualise results
3/2. are same step. PCR works to amplify specific segments so that you don't have to use enzymes to cleave the DNA to obtain fragments.
The PCR relies on primers designed to anneal to specific target sequences, such as those present in the STRs.
Are you alive
Yes this is true. They have the same DNA as identical twins come from the same fertilised egg that has split, so they are identical genetically. However fingerprints are formed while the foetus is developing in the womb and is influenced by many environmental factors, such as the position of the foetus in the womb and the amniotic fluid swirling round the fingertips which forms every individual ridge. Therefore theoretically no two people can have the same fingerprints including identical twins.
Of the 3 billion bases, only narrow stretches are of interest for fingerprinting. The selection is through the specificity of the primers. Is that correct?
pls how do we identify a bacteria strain using plasmid fingerprinting? looking forward to a quick and accurate response
does A B C at 4:10 refer to different people's DNA??? as in one person's DNA is A, another person's is B etc?
WOW, this is amazing. Thank you, this helped me so much!!!!!!!!!
Wonderfully explained, I hope that wasn't an expensive sketchbook tho 😵💫
How is paternity determined this way?
Do we inherit the repeats of both parents or only one?
Why is your marker running out all the time.?
I need an updated version, the 2017 edition.
Why are comments in the video in the old commenting system (ie. 2 top comments shown, "comment withheld", etc) ?
thank you for helping me pass my forensics test
hi can someone explain to me how do we precisely excise out all the tandem repeats? I know you use a probe to attach to the start of the tandem repeat and then you PCR it but the thing is wont the probe have a multitude of sites to bind to- as they are tandem repeats"
The PCR primers bind to sites on either side of the STR area, before the repeat (ex. ATGATGATG) has actually begun, and after that repeat has ended. The sequences that precede and follow each STR site are unique, and so we design our PCR primers to stick to those sequences. The PCR process then makes copies of everything inside these PCR primer "bookends." Those copied products will be longer if there are more repeats between the primers and shorter if there are fewer repeats.
Please help me to understand about DNA amplification fingerprinting?
this is an awesome explanaition, even for people who do not talk english as their native language. THANKS A LOT!
Appreciate your devotion ☺
👏👏👏
MY BRAIN JUST EXPANDED, THANK YOU.
EXCELLENT EXPLANATION! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
How dna printer works ?
why is it that the only bands that show up are non coding regions or str
So I was born on 10th september, completed a degree in leicester and want to study postgraduate forensic science. Reckon I was born for this!
Even as a GCSE student I understood that!!
You are awesome!
Are you alive
That is great speed art and a really clever description. Well done!
cuz the PCR is designed that way!
specific primers are used!
:D
running a gel electrophoresis is so much fun
Not only smart, but artistic and creative. Because left handed people use the right part of the brain, which is more of arts/creativity. While right handed people uses left part of the brain, which is, however, more of analysis and logic. If a person is both artistic/creative and analytic/logical, then he/she is equally dominant, like me :D
Really enjoyed that explaination. Decided to find out how it is done after watching "Code of a Killer" on ITV UK :-)
Excellent work. Graet clarity. Many thanks!
Thanks for the video!
But the person named "some random" at time 2:00 in fact looks like the dad... haha
SWEET HOME ALABAMA
your drawings and writing is so neat!
Are u Alive
thankss ime doing a science contest on this major help keep up the good work
hell of a website name
It cleared all my confusion thanks a lot
Thanks, this helps a lot! It is so easy to understand! Hopes you can continue to share your intelligence to the society!
god bless u ,u saved me from my next day presentation in class 😝
Incredibly clear excellent video
I not only got the information but i impressed very will
Wat
Very impressive in explanation of the topic. Thank you.
thank you a lot
tomorrow i will bring the full mark thanks
Oh my your drawings are great :) thank you very much for the explanation!
you are a brilliant artist..
Thanks for the explication!
awesome.. you make it so easy!
Thank you for such a detailed nice lecture
Thanks... But ur English is so fast please try to slow this.. So that we can able to understand this ....otherwise your english is so good ☺☺
This is amazing. Keep posting, this is great stuff.
Are you alive
incredible video. Thano you so much. keep doing what youre doing!
@Shehan because right handed people make them smart. comparatively speaking
love her work so much!
This was very clear, thank you for the explanation!
Nice piece of work. thanks
you are brilliant and an artist too!
This is sooo helpful! Thank you!
Are you alive
Very Helpful!
you are truely amazing ^__^
keep up the good work, great information !!
Very good video! Thank you!
thanks, that was helpful!!
I just found out how incredibly complex DNA analysis is. Amazing.
Left handed people tend to use way more both hands than right handed people, so left handed use both sides of the brain and "excercise" with it more than right handed. So they can actually be more "smart" altought this is not yet proved. (im in the med school)
Great video! Thanks.
thank you so much.. really helpful
Turn the subtitles on the RUclips video (the icon at the bottom which looks like a rectangle with two horizontal lines. This will allow you to get past that stupid law put in place :)
why do you call your channel naked. I don't understand.
What a great video!
a very good one! awsum!
Thank u now I better understand about DNA fp
great stuff!
very helpful
Awesome Video
i like the advertisement :P hehe
ur the best
Thanks a ton..
Very useful! Thank you!
thanks!
I love this chanel
Thanks!
Erklären Sie nach Spanisch......~..~.....Auf der Gitarre Markiert haben.....?
Awesome
Thank you :D!
Wait a minute, so u guys aren't naked? Haha good video though
easy
Thank u mam
your marker is going out! (that's all I got from this video)
Joe Hernandez hahaha
😂😂😂same
Very helpful thank you :D... "bye"
Why are left handed people so smart ??
@candy4life i will tell on u!
THANK YOUUUUUUU
you inherit them from both your parents!
since half the DNA in ur genome comes from ur mother and the other half from your father!
hope this helps!
:D
wtf is cheese
idk man
@@jeeikob its like. milk but really fucked up
its gr8 jobs
AHA !!!
CooL
Your srsly amazing :)
my sister s left handed. she's dumb. no offence sis >.
aaaaaaaaawesome
I LOVE YOU (L)
horrible
