You can use the Smooth Q2 with Filmic Pro. Once you activate „Volume Keys Trigger Recording“ in the Filmic Pro App, the gimbal‘s record button works fine.

This is the most convincing and well-founded review of the "Zhiyun Smooth Q2".
It is a pity that the author cannot compare the "DJI Osmo Mobile 3" with the "Zhiyun Smooth Q2"
in terms of stabilization at rest and with slow movements.
I need maximum stability and smoothness of a gimbal as a tripod replacement.
"Zhiyun" has many years of experience with its professional "Crane" devices
and should actually do better than other models, brands, companies?

El estabilizador smooth Q2 es de buena calidad pero tiene varios defectos graves:
- Si lo pones en vertical se ve el motor y te fastidia la toma, por lo que hay que usarlo siempre en ángulo de 45 grados
- No tiene botones para controlar el zoom ni el joystick tampoco vale para eso
- No tiene modo follow me (lo pones con el trípode y te sigue) o al menos yo no lo he encontrado

These types of gimbals are nearly always for smartphones OR for cameras but not both. Obviously the weight limit here is far too small for a camera, but it seems manufacturers are deliberately separating the two so you need to buy two separate devices, even though a slightly heavier attachment limit and a more flexible mount would easliy accomodate both a smartphone or sub 500g camera. Can anyone recommend a gimbal that can fit a camera as well for a reasonable price. (Current prices show that even small camera gimbals are more than three times the cost).
There is the Crane M2 and Feiyu Tech G6 max.
good video and well done for being objective also having problems with my camera / motor seemingly with a Huawei P30 and the vortex mode dosn´t spin/work at all ... cheers

You need to press the record button three times and then the axis hides.
Great video as always and nice demo of how to make the gimbal adjust itself in ultra-wide mode so it isn’t visible. Quick question, did you find the motors were strong enough to handle quick and fast movements? I had the old smooth q and noticed motor juddering in certain positions.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max with a Case. Will this work and hold that?
I would get a larger gimbal for that.
I know i'm nitpicking, but I can't help but notice that it still looks "phone-like" in quality despite its 4k and improved cameras/sensors. I'm guessing I've gotten too used to mirrorless/DLSRs.
Lighting makes a big difference. The question is can you shoot a movie that's scripted and not have a hard look to it. That would be all about post work. Although I shot a film with my old 5D Mark II and it looked a lot like film. No post necessary.
It uses a small sensor and tiny lens, so it will never have that classy look. For that you need good glass and larger sensor.
The Hybrid Shooter yes I understand. I guess I was just expecting more because every RUclipsr was hyping it up. It’s a great camera, so I’m not putting it down.
I just thought maybe it would look amazing because of its 4k and 3 cameras. It DOES look good, but definitely cannot replace any mirrorless/DSLR!

Guess 11 pro doesn’t need this, but what is the best clip or screw on wide angle lens to use with this gimbal and stay under payload limit.
Unfortunately, I have never used any smartphone wide-angle lens, so I can't help you with that.

No, as I have said in the video, filmic pro is not compatible. You can only start / stop recording.
If the phone is off is there a way to press a gimbal button to automatically turn the phone on and launch the camera app? I can imagine the constant stop and start process during my travels would get annoying and discourage me from using gimbals in general. I need a way to get from off to shoot mode as quickly as possible.
No, that is not possible. Get Osmo Pocket in that case.

Is there a trick to getting object tracking to work? I turn the setting on, box the object, but the gimbal does not track.
You need to have the latest version of the app, if that doesn't help, there is probably some compatibility issue.
Hey Man, great overview of the Gimbal. We use the DJI Osmo 2 and it stores the media on the app and you have to export it from there. Is this the same with the Q2 or does it record straight to the phone? Appreciate the help!
Thank you, I unfortunately don't know, I recommend using FiLMiC pro instead of gimbal apps for the best video quality.

How do you compare this gimble in general with Osmo Mobile 3?
I'm trying to decide which smartphone gimbal I should get. First I thought Osmo Mobile 3, but after seeing this review I'm in doubt again :-)
Big negative seems it's currently not compatible with Filmic Pro, but according to your review, the Zhiyun Smooth delivers maybe more smooth footage than the Osmo Mobile 3? The removable battery on the Zhiyun Smooth seems to me as a plus so it's easy to replace.
So many choices to make: Osmo Mobile 3 or Zhiyun Smooth? From what I've heard the app of the DJI is also more stable than Zhiyun?
I have never used Osmo Mobile 3, so I can't compare those two. Filmic Pro doesn't support either at the moment. Smooth Q2 is much smaller which is IMO the biggest advantage over Osmo Mobile 3.

Excellent detailed review as always. I am finding it difficult to create smooth pans and tilts using the joystick. Is there anyway to control the smoothness and sensitivity of the joystick?
I wasn't able to find joystick setting either. Turning the gimbal in PF mode is more suitable for smooth panning.

thanks for the video, I just bought the Q2...the face/object tracking does not work; spins aimlessly after applying the target box. Did you experience this?

Thank you! This is still the best option IMO. Hohem iSteady X is also a good gimbal, but I still prefer this one. I only have regular 12 Pro and it works the same as with 11 pro with Q2.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks! The 12 max weighs 228, so even with a case might be under the 260 max for this gimble. Next, I’m looking for a way to get improved audio with my iPhone while using this gimble. For example walking outdoors shooting a livestream. Do you have any suggestions for a solution?
Maybe using wireless mic with light receiver such as this one: ruclips.net/video/ys1ep_9nOcc/видео.html in that case I would get a larger gimbal.

Hi, i have a question. My phone is a Samsung Note 10 plus. I am concerned about the wide angle lens camera. What if I place the phone far from the gimbal joint and add counterweights to balance everything. Will the gimbal joint still show when using the wide lens? So I take a motion timelapse on the tripod using wide angle and the gimbal on a tripod. Do you think this will work?
I don't have Note 10 plus, so I unfortunately can't help you with that.

I watched this video and bought the Q2 cos you said it could do portrait mode. You should highlight that it cannot do portrait properly. I bought it for tiktok shooting but was horrified to learn it cannot tilt up while in portrait mode cos it will quickly rotate back to landscape ! So portrait is only 1 angle and you cannot do any angles . Can you advise whether is that any hacks like the original Q1 that can detach and attach the clamp vertically?

Really strange to me that you got object tracking to work reliably in ZYPlay app. I have iPhone XS Max and it doesn't work at all. I exchanged emails with Zhiyun Tech support who asked me to send a screen recording. They came back saying I was doing everything correctly and the problem must be in the ZYPlay App and they would tell their R&D dept. In the meantime they suggested I return the gimbal which I found to be an odd suggestion if its a software issue not hardware
That is quite strange, it should work fine on XS. Do you have latest FW in gimbal and updated iOS?
Yes to both - up to date gimbal firmware (was installed first time I opened the ZY App and iPhone os is latest version
New version of ZY Play was released today, maybe that will help.
Unfortunately the updated app hasn’t solved the issue. I got a DJI Osmo Mobile 3 and have been comparing the two all weekend. It’s tracking feature is flawless by comparison to the Smooth Q2. It’s unfortunate because I prefer the form factor of the Q2 but the tracking just doesn’t work. I also have the Smooth 4 and it’s tracking is better although still not as good as the Osmo.
@@rorykeane8672 That is really unfortunate, I had similar experience with ZY Play when updating FW on Weebill LAB. That worked with iPhone 11 Pro but not on iPhone 8 with the same iOS na ZY Play version.
there are so many reviews of the smooth q2 but no one mentions the cooperation with the zy-play app from zhiyun and for android phones. how is the tracking working? foulproof and reliably? no one talks about this point either. the zy-play app gets horific scores on google play but usually not in regard to this gimbal. could you make any experience with this feature?
Tracking was the same on android in my experience, but it depends a lot on specific phone and Android version. When it comes to camera gimbals though, almost nothing works on Android ZY Play app. Reliability of iOS apps was one of the main reasons why I switched to iPhone.
thanx for your quick answer. that's what i guessed and feared. it certainly is a huge challenge to adapt the software to the tons of different devices. i film with a note 9, filmic pro works fine, the OS is updated, so i will give it a try. maybe the coming black friday will help with the price 😉

Do you see a small part of the motor when using the wide lens ( not ultra wide lens)? For me when i pair the iphone 11 pro with filmic pro, i can see small part of the motor when on the wide lens .

Maybe try to put the phone in backwards and turn on the gimbal's selfie mode? I haven't seen anyone try this yet. It will block a portion of your screen but the motors will be completely out of view right?
@@KingDudu There is no need for that with this gimbal, there is special ultra-wide mode.
Sure, but the commenter said they still see part of the motor, so it’s another possibility.
@@KingDudu That is probably because he is not using that mode, or he didn't mount the phone correctly. Motor is normally not visible with 11 Pro.

May i ask why for some of the videos on youtube when they test the ultra wide mode on by triple pressing the record button 3 times using an iphone 11 pro, the motor can still be seen ?
That may be caused by wrong position of the phone in the holder.

Ďakujem! Ja som celkovo spokojný s chôdzou, najmä s ohľadom na veľkosť gimbalu. Na stabilizačnejšiu chôdzu je ešte lepší napríklad Moza Mini-MX... alebo iPhone 12 / Pro s hocijakým gimbalom.
@@TheHybridShooter já ho objednal ale když koukám na videa ..používám Samsung Note20Ultra tak snad to spolu dají.. mám to na prostřihání spolu s dronem nic velkého ale zdálo se mi že dle videí ta chůze vypadá pořád dost "houpavá" ale jinak moc děkuji za reakci.. 😉
