You can just take a paperclip, unfold it, cut a bit of it on one end with pliers and BAM! It will have a sharp end. Then just turn it a bit while applying pressure on the point you want to drill a hole in. Hope this helps!

The physics behind this is quite simple yet interesting.
Edit: For those who don't know how it works-
Take the thumbnail for example. The middle string holding the suspended top frame makes the frame try to rotate to the left. The two strings on the right counters the rotation, meaning it literally stops the top frame from spinning to the left. The design and force is just enough to suspend it in the air while being able to carry stuff.

I've just finished a 4 point version with partial success. My own construction is faulty, and I've also reached the conclusion that the 3 corner would be easier to balance. Mine is a bit sturdier however made with 1/4" plywood for top and bottom with small steel angle support pieces from the hardware department. It's intended to be a cup rest or a plant stand.
I used Berkeley Fireline because of low visibility, high strength, and negligible stretch. It's my favorite fishing line. If this one works well enough after modifying it to the 3 point design I'll make a chair as a conversation piece. I love the concept and the visual mystery it portrays to the first time viewers.

I'm not great at this internet stuff, but I hope many commentors will find value in my words. To answer at least 1 or 2 questions I have seen, this is not a trick. It is real and incredibly similar to - and representative of - tensegrity models.
The 3 materials appear to be wooden popsicle/craft sticks, glue, and string/cordage.
The 8 glue joints are all fixed connections (the glue makes assembly much simpler). 6 of them represent pinned connections, but the other 2 represent fixed connections. The fixity of these 2 connections is necessary for the function of this structure, and because of these 2 fixed joints (and at least 1 or 2 other nuances) this is not technically a tensegrity model. I am, however, delighted by it, and would enjoy correspondence with it's creator (Yoshiny Yo?). I will likely be building one soon. Thank you for sharing this creation with the world.

It's not about gravity because gravity is acting here only in the middle where one stick(lower) is suspended on the other ( upper) . Upper stick is acting here as a beam on which a stick is suspended and going further on the above portion we found out that the other two sides can't fall coz it will force the other stick to go above which isn't possible coz string isn't elastic enough to do so,can be related to seesaw where for making one side down, other side have to go up..
    So it's not antigravity,though it's beautiful..

    I'm no science expert,
yet simply by looking at this model you can tell there is a counterbalance
    near the middle section.
Having such a short thread means it can't fall or rotate easily to the other sides so long as the remaining three outer threads can counter it.
That's as much as I got.

The middle string holds the top triangular platform upwards, connected from the two popsicle sticks in the middle, slanted at what I presume is a 75° angle. The two strings from the bottom triangular platform at each point, which is part of the same side of the popsicle stick in the middle, keeps the top triangular platform from falling down and away (at a pivotal angle) from said middle popsicle stick. The last string at the final point of the bottom triangular platform is providing balance between the other two points so they do not sway from side-to-side. All this, ironically, held in place by gravity to create a "gravity-defying" building.
What a wonderfully simple piece of architectural engineering.

Which makes a nice desk decoration.

@@ivantheterrible7696 No, I'm litterally saying that the string in the middle (maintaining the two parts appart) isn't maintained by gravity but by the tension of the strings themselves (the ones around that pull the two parts closer).

    • @twoheartsoff3255
      @twoheartsoff3255 3 года назад

@@ivantheterrible7696 Well, I already understood everything you juste said but what you didn't understood is the fact that the strings don't need gravity to work, if you put this tructure on the side it won't fall apart (I tried this by myself), the tension in the string don't come from gravity but from the fact that the strings are all a bit too short for the structure.
If it came from gravity (the weight of the wooden pieces is so low that gravity don't has that much effect on them, blowing on it would apply nearly the same force) you wouldn't be able to move it without making the structure shater.
Gravity would be an explenation to this if the structure was heavy but with little sticks the tension applied in the string wouldn't be strong enough to perform this trick.
