This changes the entire meaning of the song from child poverty in Germany to...all of Europe being completely fucked. 🤣
    Still amazing in both languages.

I know basically no german but i was pretty sure from context and the word deutschland that this song was indeed german specific..

Some of their English songs are pretty close to the original German, this is not one of them. An important difference is that at the end of the original song, it says "in the year 2009, 2.5 million children live in poverty in Germany", which is a shocking statistic.
    Some other major lyrics differences:
English: When the other kids are calling, "you're worthless too"
German: When the other children ask, "how much [money] do you have?"
English: La le lu, someone's got their eye on you
German: Le le lu, only the man in the moon watches
English: The truth is a big scam so let me sleep tonight
German: Reality is cruel so give me a dream
English: Let them eat cake someone said, when all the children want is bread
German Dry bread makes cheeks red, but everyone sits in their own boat
English: Let me show you prosperity, where children long for what they need
German: Now I'm showing you what wealth is, in a country that forgets their brood (i.e. forgets about their own people)
Also, in the original he sings to Deutschland (Germany), in the English song he sings to Europe, which makes sense.

True, this song does have some pretty big differences between the original and English version, but I do think the English version of this song still conveys what the band is trying to say, whilst being in a different language.

I love how oomph don't half-arse their translations - they properly translate the context as well. True, most people will most likely prefer the originals but their translated equivalents deserve recognition

Though I don't normally like their English covers, I think this song needed a softer language, it using sleep and comfort being part of its poetry and all. This is pretty much the only song by them I prefer to hear in English, and it's a really good one.

This song mentions Europe, starvation and "Let them eat cake.
Apparently Marie-Anntoneit (Or however you spell it) was ambushed by hungry citizen's of France. They all said "We're hungry! There's not even any bread!" And Marie said to them "Well, if there isn't any bread, let them eat cake!"

@ForeverAmuto Well the original song doesn't say "Europe (Europe)" so it kind of had to to fit the rhyme scheme, the original one said "Deutschland(Deutschland)" Plus some of the swearing actually gives the song a lot more power...some songs just don't have the same punch without the swearing, besides, Oomph! doesn't do like some American artists and throw in a swear word for the hell of it.

I prefer the German versions of oomph but my partner doesn't like lyrics in a language he can't understand....which I find funny because he listens to Italian opera , which is way harder to speak or understand than German in my opinion. Upon trying to learn German I found its not to far of from English and a bit more fun....Italian is easier for my relatives that speak Spanish

Mr123Paulie they had to make changes to the translation from German to English so it would fit the rhythm, the syllables would be off if they translated correctly, plus it wouldn't sound as good correctly translated
(Deutschland two syllables, Germany three syllables, change Germany to Europe to maintain the two syllables)
