This changes the entire meaning of the song from child poverty in Germany to...all of Europe being completely fucked. 🤣
Still amazing in both languages.
I know basically no german but i was pretty sure from context and the word deutschland that this song was indeed german specific..
Some of their English songs are pretty close to the original German, this is not one of them. An important difference is that at the end of the original song, it says "in the year 2009, 2.5 million children live in poverty in Germany", which is a shocking statistic.
Some other major lyrics differences:
English: When the other kids are calling, "you're worthless too"
German: When the other children ask, "how much [money] do you have?"
English: La le lu, someone's got their eye on you
German: Le le lu, only the man in the moon watches
English: The truth is a big scam so let me sleep tonight
German: Reality is cruel so give me a dream
English: Let them eat cake someone said, when all the children want is bread
German Dry bread makes cheeks red, but everyone sits in their own boat
English: Let me show you prosperity, where children long for what they need
German: Now I'm showing you what wealth is, in a country that forgets their brood (i.e. forgets about their own people)
Also, in the original he sings to Deutschland (Germany), in the English song he sings to Europe, which makes sense.
True, this song does have some pretty big differences between the original and English version, but I do think the English version of this song still conveys what the band is trying to say, whilst being in a different language.
I love how oomph don't half-arse their translations - they properly translate the context as well. True, most people will most likely prefer the originals but their translated equivalents deserve recognition
this version, from just the English lyrics, is sooooo different
so true
I prefer the German version :s
Gotta agree with you, it kind of loses some of its charm in english.
This song would be perfect for a superhero movie
Still love this song
SIMPLEMENTE AMO LA MUSICA DE OOMPH 😘❤
me too, and ur hot with all respect.
So awesome! My brother played the German version for me yesterday and he explained the meaning (since he'd seen the translation video so many times lol). The English version is incredible too!
This works pretty nicely in English!
awesome lyrics! EUROPE WAKE UP!!!!
It has to be different from the original to keep rhythm of the instrumental beat, and at the same time make sense.
Cause the original translation would probably be out of key x.x
OOMPH! WERE THE FIRST OF NDH BANDS AND THEY ARE STILL THE BEST BECAUSE THEY ARE THE MOST VERSATILE! THEY NEVER CEASE TO SURPRISE AND AMAZE THE SAME TIME! THE GODFATHERS OF NDH RULE AND OWN THEM ALL!!!
Покойся с миром, Сэндмен.
fantastic song very good ..
Though I don't normally like their English covers, I think this song needed a softer language, it using sleep and comfort being part of its poetry and all. This is pretty much the only song by them I prefer to hear in English, and it's a really good one.
I still like the German version better
so far, all of their songs have stayed pretty kick-ass. they've wroked out grea. i mean, i still rock out to them but their OOMPH! and i'v been listening to them for like two-ish years now so it could be in greek and i'd still think it were awesome.
I kinda like how they included now whole Europe and not only Germany, not like this issue is only in Germany after all :)
love this song
Man I'm going back through my song playlists......I forgot how much these songs really speak to me. I miss it TT^TT
i LOVE this! i would say this one works better than the other ones that have been done in english!
Wow easy to understand the meaning once in English
this song kick ass in any language,,, Oomph did a great job with this album .
So unintentionally prophetic of modern Europe
- Lady Blond, Thanks for a Good_Post
AH yes, this song. I like this song :)
one of germany's best
I guess Germany was to long to fit in the time xD Still awesome song in any language!!

Does anyone have the video where Flux was dressed like a cow, Crap a cowboy, and Dero a native American?
ooh, BVB vibes!!
This is awesome snesman 16 brought me here
Part of his charm :D
nice
Wow.
The English vocals are beautiful very beautiful voice and they hit the high notes perfectly ❤❤❤
I’m planning on taking German and wanting to know the German lyrics as well:) I’m sure there just as beautiful as English ❤
I can't ignore the fact that the "la-le-lu" sounds exactly like the original
Hätte niemals gedacht das so viele Engländer Amerikaner oder so deutsche Musik hören
LOL Who wants a history fact~?
This song mentions Europe, starvation and "Let them eat cake.
Apparently Marie-Anntoneit (Or however you spell it) was ambushed by hungry citizen's of France. They all said "We're hungry! There's not even any bread!" And Marie said to them "Well, if there isn't any bread, let them eat cake!"
FUCK YEAH.
both the German and the English versions of this song are great, even if the context is largely different (as mentioned by others)
@1Salaya ..accualy if u watch the original video its about the depression that germany was in after ww1
Man this is so sad. It reminds me of World War 2. Its prolly wat its about. Man this is a really good song in German and in English. Brava.
He says fuck a lot in general lol
Also love the German version in English version ❤️
what are u guys talking about 2 M's??? do u mean N's?
Well,not anymore.
Guess i'll think that everytime now /:
Sandman from COD MW3

wow his english is really good! or at least the pronunciation is very clear, though I know singing and speaking are very different
The lyrics are different but I like that. It's something new although I do prefer the German original
I agree. But They have a way to make German sound soft. I guess I just don't see the 'anger' in the German language. I've been teaching myself it and Turkish for awhile, and I don't see it. I love OOMPH
Haeleigh Wood It's normal that everyone thinks German is one of the harshest languages since everyone in translation videos yells german and normally speaks the other languages.
I like this one cuz he says fuck
@ForeverAmuto Well the original song doesn't say "Europe (Europe)" so it kind of had to to fit the rhyme scheme, the original one said "Deutschland(Deutschland)" Plus some of the swearing actually gives the song a lot more power...some songs just don't have the same punch without the swearing, besides, Oomph! doesn't do like some American artists and throw in a swear word for the hell of it.
yeah, i know... but there is only one M... there are 2 N's. that is the german way to spell it. if it were spelled the english way, there would only be one N. i really dont see where this extra M is supposed to come from...
I know, labyrinth or if i didnt spell it right then correct that too
Ich stimme voll und ganz
💋❤️
Changes the meaning a smidgen but still good.... I prefer the German versions of oomph but my partner doesn't like lyrics in a language he can't understand....which I find funny because he listens to Italian opera , which is way harder to speak or understand than German in my opinion. Upon trying to learn German I found its not to far of from English and a bit more fun....Italian is easier for my relatives that speak Spanish
sounds better in German, but its great either way ^^
"Cant you see your children lined up???" Children in russia training for the military be like:
"Let them eat cake someone said"--- No... I mean technically "someone" did say it, just not...
not to be rude but isnt the proper translation of deutschland germany, and not europe
Mr123Paulie they had to make changes to the translation from German to English so it would fit the rhythm, the syllables would be off if they translated correctly, plus it wouldn't sound as good correctly translated
(Deutschland two syllables, Germany three syllables, change Germany to Europe to maintain the two syllables)
The actual lyrics are Deutschland meaning Germany
Royal May it's so they can keep up with the syllables. Germany has 3 whereas Deutschland and Europe only have 2
Oliver/Ollie I get it now, but I still hate it
Кто от Ванделея?
Ahora en español :v
Gut , aber ich bevorzuge die deutsche Version.
Das Lied ist gut im Englisch, aber weil ihre Muttersprache Deutsch ist, finde ich dieses Lied besser klinken im Deutsch
why is it so different than the German??
To keep the original rhythm, it would be impossible to make it have the same meaning and also leave the song untouched
@@jared8515 I guess, "Germany" does somehow have more syllables than "Deutschland"
@@TabbiCat101 Ger-Ma-Ny
Deutsch-land
@@TabbiCat101 So yeah, the song would be very out of sync if it was just translated and sung as is
They still could've fit the part about the Man in the Moon in tho
I only like the German version-Ich mag nur die deutsche Version
das lied finde ich ziemlich gut aber ich mags besser auf deutsch, hört sich einfach besser an :D
I cannot understand why Rammstein is more famous than them .... =/
Oomph are German so their music should be spelt as German otherwise what is the point.
Nathan S Templeton The song is in English? So why should the title be German? There is a song that is called 'Sandmann' the german song and the english song's title is in english. That's how it is. It is their decision.
This does NOT sound like Oomph!
no the video is about the depression cause by the treaty of Versailles that endded after world war one (1918)
Ja und Sie haben Europa weck auf(Europe wake up.) geschrieben. Auf deutsch, sagt es Ames Deutschland (Poor Germany). XD
B1itZKr3iGC4 Versuch mal Poor Germany in den Rhythmus reinzubekommen ohne dass es lächerlich klingt. At least they stayed in Europe and didn't say world right?
Because it's just a German Problem right? -.- it's good that it is that way.
This is an awful translation XD "Deutschland" is "Germany" in German.
Its not a translation...
It's not europe it's Germany Deutsch means German so Deutschland is Germany clearly
It's transcribed this way to keep the original rhythm and syllables of the song, it's not going to be a direct translation. This is how Oomph! wrote and sang the english version
+Shadow Bro They needed something with two syllables, and this version is directed at English speakers, so they'll identify more with lyrics talking about all of Europe, not just Germany. There's a lot of unnecessary changes though which change the meaning, I wrote out a list above
Sandmann where the M otherwise it ain't German.
@Sean39109 song=ruined now.
Die deutsche Version ist besser
englisch Version is terrible xD
maybe as a standalone its good but along.... just no xD
Is it about the Nazis?
Cherrina Bradley Girl, are you serious? No, it's not about nazis just because it's a german song.
Occult Lover Maybe he just missundertood the lyrics, the song is about how europe(or germany in the original) gets worst every year.
Many Europeans are seeing that they were actually right. So many lies were told about them.
