Had a macbook and always handled it very carefully. Bought an acer chromebook not long after (boxing day sale… was so cheap/couldnt say no). Treated the chromebook like trash… dropped it all the time (once down the stairs). Take a guess which one still works today…

new ipad air with m1 processor(same as in macbooks) is all what you need, It is very durable, energy efficient, and handle video editing very well, cost only 600$, neither pc laptop can't beat that
Hi. Sorry about your bad luck. Regarding a more robust and still powerful laptop, at my work we have Lenovo Thinkpad. We often use them outdoors, in dusty or humid conditions, plus they are not always treated kindly. And they don't break that easily.
Sorry to hear about your laptop. Almost all laptops are not designed to handle the wear and tear, and all the vibration that it must get through your travels. I would suggest getting a laptop specifically designed for heavy duty work, like a Panasonic toughbook.
I watch your adventures not for the quality of your videos but the quality of your adventures. And you have great quality adventures and travels! So I'll enjoy your vids no matter how you make them.
Have you considered trying to edit on something like an iPad Pro? Could it be that it’s not Apple that’s at fault, but rather laptops in general? They’re pretty delicate pieces of equipment. Something like an iPad is designed to take abuse and the iPad Pro is capable of serious video editing once you get use to the interface. Just a thought. Love your stuff
Thanks Jack for the tip. I just checked the Ipad pro it costs 1700e 😅. Well to be honest during last 5 years I bought 3 products from Apple: 2 macbook pro , I edited around 40 videos and both dead. Also bought a I phone 6 worked only 6 months at the time. So now getting a Ipad pro with the money which I don't have is an interesting story. Also can I trust it really? 🤔 I tought the macbook is more durable than Ipad, you think Ipad is more durable? Have you used it? Appreciate ur input 😊
@@NomadsTrails I’ve not got experience putting one through the kind of extremes you’re likely to. But I’ve no doubt they’ll be far more durable on the road than a Mac. Put it in a good sealed case and it should be indestructible. Also, because there’s not much to go wrong, you can feel pretty confident getting one second hand. Definitely under 1000
@@NomadsTrails I don't know for sure but the first MacBook died after it rained into your room and the laptop probably got dropped on. One drop of water is definitely enough to kill an electric circuit. I am not a fan of apple but I also think it's just the damp environment or the extremes it gets exposed to. Electronics should just stay very far away from any damp area. So I don't think a windows laptop will be any better. Anyway nice videos and good luck with a new laptop!

In additional when I was cycling off-road I carried the laptop on a small backpack so it stays safe. Also I have carried beafor an old macbook model 2015 on bicycle and I didn't have issue. Also again my other macbook broke down when I was in Gambia for a year because of covid and I was not cycling. Still you think it is because of vibration? Thanks 😊

I would suggest you get an M1 Macbook Air. You can pick them up used for under 800eur. They don't have a fan, so no openings for dust and moisture to creep in. The new M1 chips are VERY fast and suitable for video editing. Batteries also last very long and you can charge via USB. Also store it in a drybag if you haven't already...

And those shops had limited amount of choices. Also Lenovo did agree to sponser us. And they did send a laptop but it was too good for editing, i had to send it back and they couldn't send a better one. It is easy to say buy this or that. But in reality things are a bit different 😊
Power and price ratio has always been worst with apple computers. You can always get lot more better pc with same price. Get yourself panasonic toughbook. Thts the best choice for travelling in hard conditions.
The only way to do a sustainable travel series is to have a crew following you in a truck. Don't worry about the quality. It is about an adventure. This is not a real reality TV show that is all scripted. with a fake story line and . This is a real adventure. If you only have your phone to record use it.

MCBook is a shitty computer, I can confirm it. I also had 2 labtops that broke down, the second time even almost catching fire as it was so hot !! Do not buy it, not recommended. Then I bought a Mc Air and that was 7 years ago. Wonderful machine. I would go on it. Definetely. Take care and stay safe

i just updated my mini with latest releaze firware now it a brick no camera view //what ever you do dont update it ..ps get ipad pro faster and faster editing than macbook less chance it break mac dont build like they used to they build to fail so you always updating… went through 4 macs in 6 years always fail after warrenty

10 year old thinkpads are still pretty capable, cheap, and very servicable, look into those second hand. You can easily switch around and upgrade components like hard drives, ram, etc. as you go. Initial cost (including a new ssd hard drive) can be about 100 euros or lower if you're lucky.

Damn Brother ! It is difficult to know what laptop you can buy that will withstand the life you are living………. A toughbook would but they are definitely no good for editing. Action camera-wise GoPro is it really I think. The Hero 10 Black nary gets a bad review ….. Camera itself ? Olympus TG-6. Waterproof, dust-proof etc but ? Does have limitations A real shame the MacbookPro is not up to the task. Steve Jobs turning in his grave

I will start by saying that I know next to nothing about computers. Now, can't you get some sort of military grade computer that is really robust ? probably quite expensive but we can help with that.
I really don't know, I can't say yes or no to be honest. But was very carefull with the macbook, I put it inside the foam bag the did rap it around my clothes and ur was always inside the dry big. Even when I was cycling crazy off-roads I did take it out and put it on my small backpack and carried it on my back in order to be less vibration. I think just these new macbook's are not made to last. 🤷♂️
@@NomadsTrails I would take the back off and see if any of the connectors have come apart, screws fallen out. Worth a look if can find somewhere clean and dry to do it.
@@nickwf70 thanks for the tip, but it was a battery issue. The laptop is not recognising the battery any more. In old macbook's it was possible to reboot this issue but in the M1 macbooks is not possible

I watched this ruclips.net/video/7UBy7L3YzLg/видео.html .. basically a blown capacitor shorts it out, blows the fuze then no power to board. Could be something like that in which case nothing to do with vibration but poor quality components.

It can be also this voltage change in Africa, since here electricity is not so stable but from other hand many ppl here use laptop also so... I don't know really. I think these new macbooks are just not made to last.
Thanks for suggestion but impossible to upload videos on cloud. 2 days I tried to download 2 minutes clips for this video, and i couldn't. Another time it toked me 7 days to upload 20 minutes video. This idea dosen't work while cycling in different countries, data is damn expensive and usually slowe 😊
why do you put up with bad equipment? you can just merge videos with ffmpeg, and you could start and stop recording with a remote control for your camera. that way you never have to touch editing software and still have a video out. sure it's simpler, just consecutive shots from a camera, but i don't think anybody would mind as long as the story is good
@@NomadsTrails i'm not saying the result will eclipse stanley kubrick, or that it's even as good as edited content might be, all i say is you can arrive home with only the footage you need and no more if you get into the habit of frantically pushing the record button all the time, sort of "edit" while shooting. also dji makes bad drones that are difficult to fix yourself. a cine-lifter with an action cam can either be much better or much cheaper, but at the very least easier to fix. just think how much better can that couple thousand dollars spent on the fancier but disposable gear be allocated, even by just giving it away for a cause. instead it goes into a slightly different shade of blue sky in a video, and plastic into landfill. what i propose can be concatenated on a 10 year old library computer as fast as it can copy files, and of course it looks worse. (see my half-assed content for example of quality) that's what i meant. thanks for reading my rambling. your videos are good
just take a cheap windows laptop under 1000 dollars your editing work aint that intensive relatively , these days you can edit 4k on mobiles, and if windows breaks down easily u can get parts or buy new pc, I think structuring videos will help and yea everyone feels they have a slow computer a dude with a 1000 dollar one or a 5000 dollar one

I just know how else I can protect it to be honest. This macbook was in the foam bag , inside the waterproof cover, I did put some moisture absorber bag inside also. Then I rapoeded it around my clothes. Also when I was cycling too bumbpy off roads, I put it inside a backpack and carry it on my back. I can't really do more than this 🤷♂️

It is difficult to know what laptop you can buy that will withstand the life you are living………. A toughbook would but they are definitely no good for editing.
Action camera-wise GoPro is it really I think. The Hero 10 Black nary gets a bad review …..

I really don't know, I can't say yes or no to be honest. But was very carefull with the macbook, I put it inside the foam bag the did rap it around my clothes and ur was always inside the dry big. Even when I was cycling crazy off-roads I did take it out and put it on my small backpack and carried it on my back in order to be less vibration. I think just these new macbook's are not made to last. 🤷♂️
@@NomadsTrails I would take the back off and see if any of the connectors have come apart, screws fallen out. Worth a look if can find somewhere clean and dry to do it.
@@nickwf70 thanks for the tip, but it was a battery issue. The laptop is not recognising the battery any more. In old macbook's it was possible to reboot this issue but in the M1 macbooks is not possible

I watched this ruclips.net/video/7UBy7L3YzLg/видео.html .. basically a blown capacitor shorts it out, blows the fuze then no power to board. Could be something like that in which case nothing to do with vibration but poor quality components.
@@nickwf70 thanks for the link, I just can't trust those to spend money to fix it. I fix the other macbook last time and it kept braking down. It can be also this voltage change in Africa, since here electricity is not so stable but from other hand many ppl here use laptop also so... I don't know really. I think these new macbooks are just not made to last.

Thanks for suggestion but impossible to upload videos on cloud. 2 days I tried to download 2 minutes clips for this video, and i couldn't. Another time it toked me 7 days to upload 20 minutes video. This idea dosen't work while cycling in different countries, data is damn expensive and usually slowe 😊
why do you put up with bad equipment? you can just merge videos with ffmpeg, and you could start and stop recording with a remote control for your camera. that way you never have to touch editing software and still have a video out. sure it's simpler, just consecutive shots from a camera, but i don't think anybody would mind as long as the story is good

@@NomadsTrails i'm not saying the result will eclipse stanley kubrick, or that it's even as good as edited content might be, all i say is you can arrive home with only the footage you need and no more if you get into the habit of frantically pushing the record button all the time, sort of "edit" while shooting. also dji makes bad drones that are difficult to fix yourself. a cine-lifter with an action cam can either be much better or much cheaper, but at the very least easier to fix. just think how much better can that couple thousand dollars spent on the fancier but disposable gear be allocated, even by just giving it away for a cause. instead it goes into a slightly different shade of blue sky in a video, and plastic into landfill. what i propose can be concatenated on a 10 year old library computer as fast as it can copy files, and of course it looks worse. (see my half-assed content for example of quality) that's what i meant. thanks for reading my rambling. your videos are good

just take a cheap windows laptop under 1000 dollars your editing work aint that intensive relatively , these days you can edit 4k on mobiles, and if windows breaks down easily u can get parts or buy new pc, I think structuring videos will help and yea everyone feels they have a slow computer a dude with a 1000 dollar one or a 5000 dollar one

I just know how else I can protect it to be honest. This macbook was in the foam bag , inside the waterproof cover, I did put some moisture absorber bag inside also. Then I rapoeded it around my clothes. Also when I was cycling too bumbpy off roads, I put it inside a backpack and carry it on my back. I can't really do more than this 🤷♂️
