I am a philosophical journalist since October 2020 so grain of salt and all that. I did get to ABD on a PhD in math(dynamical systems theory) so I am no stranger to abstraction. My guiding light in philosophy is A N Whitehead and the pragmatists. Every area of creative human endeavor has a craft stage. Western philosophy does have a real fondness for yammering. Asian philosophy tends to honor notions like emptiness where being quiet is a high virtue. However, many of these philosophies recommend practitioners to withdraw from social engagement. Analytic philosophy has a lot of overlap with the naval gazing that philosophy is often accused of. I heard that circular reasoning can be stopped with the metaphor of a hula hoop with an inward directed nail to make it a navel destroyer. Terrible humor aside, if you insist on talking, then a finely tuned craft of language is essential. It is no coincidence that the graduate major with the highest verbal scores on the GRE is philosophy. Few field workers (toilers in the field) are highly articulate in philosophical discourse but many do listen to the best philosophers to whom they are drawn. William James is famous for pointing this out. It is NOT an ad hominem argument but more of a birds of a twitter phenomenon.
