Do you carry a pocket mask each time you dive?

Wouldn't it be better to keep the unconscious diver's bcd on, after inflating it an perhaps loosening it a bit? Surely it would help with flotation

Time is of the essence with this skill, to get the diver out of the water asap and administer whatever emergency procedure is required, depending on the response (if any) of the diver.
The PADI standards as a part of the Rescue course require you to demonstrate the sequential process of skills required to get the diver out of the water quickly and a part of that is to remove the scuba equipment whilst towing the diver back to the boat (or alternative support).
If a long way from any boat and at sea then there may be a case for an extended time with scuba equipment left on to maintain buoyancy as towing will tire the towing diver. In this case, a judgement needs to be made perhaps based on conditions and the individual circumstances.
However, for the purposes of the rescue diver certification, students will need to tow and remove scuba equipment 😊

Also wetsuits float as well, especially the thicker ones without weights and bcd
