- PADI IDC Skills Circuit for the New Revised PADI IDC Course is finally out! @MarcelVanDenBerg1 made this brand new video showing you all the 24 PADI IDC Skills Circuit skills in order.
The new PADI IDC Skills Circuit has been long awaited by PADI IDC Candidates, Divemasters, DMT's and Course Directors. Most skills in the PADI IDC Skills Circuit have stayed the same, but some have been replaced with new skills. PADI now recommends to demonstrate the PADI IDC Skills Circuit neutrally buoyant, or at least the PADI Regulator and the Mask Removal Skill to get a full 5.0 score.
PADI IDC Skills Circuit - New Revised PADI IDC Course Chapters:
00:00 Equipment assembly, adjustment, preparation, donning
and disassembly
09:33 Predive safety check (BWRAF)
13:48 Deep-water entry
15:53 Buoyancy check at surface
16:56 Snorkel-regulator/regulator-snorkel exchange
18:39 Five-point descent, using buoyancy control to stop descent
without contacting the bottom
21:21 Regulator recovery and clearing
22:50 Mask removal, replacement and clearing
24:46 Air depletion exercise and alternate air source use (stationary)
26:52 Alternate air source-assisted ascent
29:19 Free flowing regulator breathing
31:07 Neutral buoyancy, rise and fall - using low pressure inflation
33:21 Five-point ascent
35:53 Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent
37:12 Orally inflate BCD to hover for at least 60 seconds
39:31 Underwater swim without a mask
41:58 Remove and replace weight system underwater
43:57 Remove and replace scuba unit underwater
47:45 Remove and replace scuba unit on the surface
50:50 Remove and replace weight system on the surface
52:42 Surface dive while skin diving and clear snorkel using blast method upon surfacing
53:57 Disconnect low pressure inflator
55:04 Re-secure a loose cylinder band
57:10 Perform an emergency weight drop
If you want to get full points (a 5.0) on Regulator, Removal and Recovery and the mask removal and replacement skill, then you need to demonstrate those neutrally buoyant.
Demonstrating skills neutrally buoyant is popular. PADI IDC Skills Circuit neutrally Buoyant in this video.
Tips to get the most out of your new PADI IDC Skills Circuit or Divemaster Skill Circuit:
1. Do it Slowly, the slower you demonstrate the new IDC Skill, the easier it is to remember your next step and it also makes you look good.
2. Don't be a robot! Remember that no-one wants to watch or get's inspired from a static, boring Divemaster or Diving Instructor. Try to move fluidly.
3. Care about your scuba diving students. During your new PADI IDC Skills Circuit demonstration you should try and look people in the eye's, smile a bit and make people feel relaxed.
4. Use strong, but friendly scuba diving hand signals during your new PADI IDC Skills Circuit demonstrations.

During our Open Water training, the 2nd day in the pool, I started getting better at staying neutral. It's not as easy as I thought it was going to be, but practice makes perfect. I'm assuming it'll be a tad easier when we dive deeper during our lake dives. We're having a blast learning, and my 15 year old did excellent. I think he was born for SCUBA. He has excellent control, and he stayed calm and cool the whole time. We even swapped gear at the bottom of the deep end. Staying calm is key. Can't wait for our 30-40ft lake dives. That will be the deepest I've ever been.
Super cool to hear! Buoyancy will always get better with practice. Some take a bit longer than others, but you will master it fully when you keep diving! :)
Hey, thanks for this, Marcel. Going through my IDC and this was a good refresher - and a reminder on doing it slowly and deliberately!
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for video i do trenning DM for the moment in bali

Great video, thank you. I have one question regarding the pre-dive safety check (BWRAF). Why are you actually physically inflating your buddies BCD? I understand checking all the releases and air, etc but wouldn't it suffice to just watch him inflate his own BCD? Thanks again for posting this.
Sure that is also ok, just different styles :)
It’s because a mechanical failure can occur without notice.
Valves stick, hoses leak, seals give out, not presented until re pressurized.
I’m also curious about why you check each other’s primary second stage. I know COVID is not so current anymore, but I wouldn’t want someone else’s saliva on my reg.
Great video 😊
I have one question to the out of air exercise. I never turn of the students air and continue with the exercise - I only turn it of so that they can see how much air is left in the hoses etc and how it feels to run out.
Your demonstration is the correct way?
Hi Finn,
Thank you for your comment
This video is about the New Skill Circuit. This is for Divemasters and IDC Candidates.
When I teach Open Water Students, I do the same like you, I separate Air Depletion and the Alternate Air Source Skill.
But in the New IDC Skill Circuit PADI wants us to combine it.
I hope this help and have a great day
Marcel

Hi Marcel
Thanks for the update :-)
Finn
Is there a place I can get all the individual steps (aka the text in the video) typed out?
I am working on a page to type all the skills out, in the mean time have a look here for some extra information: www.scubadivingtips.net/padi-idc-skills-circuit-new-revised-idc-course.html
Any special reason why the right hand should be first in the BCD when donning the equipment?
It's a matter of practice and doing it always in a standardized method when donning your scuba unit (BCD plus cylinder and regulator). The process for "doffing" (removing) your scuba unit, especially underwater, is the reverse. Once you've adjusted the buoyancy in your BCD to be neutral for the depth you are at you can remove the left arm without worrying that the scuba unitwill rise or fall in the water column. The reason that you remove your right arm last is so that you keep the regulator, which comes over your right shoulder, in your mouth to have breathing gas underwater. Of course, exceptions can be made to this practice ... for example, for handicapped/disabled divers who may have had to modify there scuba unit -- say, to bring both their regulator's second stages and BCD inflator/deflator hose(s) over their left shoulder and alternate air source (octopus) second stage under their left arm -- due to the loss of use of an arm or even, in the case of wounded warriors, the loss of a hand or arm.
Hi GiGi,
Technically you can also use your left arm, but I like to use the right arm because then I minimise the chance of getting the Alternate Air Source hose under the arm is much higher. Especially with beginner students this helps is saving time gearing (donning) up.
It's more style then standard :)
Marcel van den Berg
@@morganames8142 I completely agree :)
Marcel
@@morganames8142 the reason you gave doesn't make much sense of doing it in reverse in comparison to a standardized skill (uw doffing) that already exists and you described it well -and that doesn't answer my question at all
@@MarcelVanDenBerg1 in your video your AAS hose is under your arm. Which is where in most setups we find it no?
I guess I misread something or I just don't understand your explanation why?
Most students encounter issues in taking their arms in or out and they get stuck with something they 99% wear on their left wrist.
26:11 Seiko Sumo PADI ???
Yes correct :)
I am not sure if they still have them, but you can contact your local PADI office and ask if they still sell them :)
Yeh thanks, I don't want to buy, it just attracting my eyes (I'm just Seiko fan 😁)
I like the beagle. I have one also here..

check the hydro & vip? why? that's for fills - not for breathing.....
Wouldn't you want to know prior to diving that the dive center is giving you a tank that has hydro and vip done?
I understand Mike, but it is important to double check if the filling station / dive centre did a good job before you use their cylinder for scuba diving. That is why we check this before every dive/use.
I did my IDC & MSDT training at Sairee Cottage Diving with Platinum Course Director Marcel Van Den Berg and I couldn't have made a better decision.
The experience I had at Sairee was unbelievable; I learned so much in the short time that I was there, and I made amazing memories. The knowledge and expertise of Marcel and the whole staff are not only outstanding, but they manage to share it with you in such a fun and relaxed way.
I was definitely concerned before starting my IDC as it was a very big step for me, and I had heard about how difficult it can be. Marcel took that stress away. By the end of the IDC all of us were completely over prepared for the IE and I knew there was no way I was going to fail it (and trust me I am someone who over-thinks and over-worries about everything).
Of course all of the perks (dorm, lunch, equipment, etc,) that are included in the price of the IDC already make it one of the best options to choose from. But honestly even if that wasn't the case I would still urge people to come do your training at Sairee Cottage Diving so you can experience it all for yourself. I promise you you won't be disappointed.
Thanks again Marcel, Julian, Joe, and everyone who did the IDC with me. You've been absolutely amazing, and my IDC will be a time I will always cherish 🙂
(By the way I wasn't planning on doing the MSDT due to money concerns, but doing it at Sairee with Marcel was an opportunity I could not miss out on)
Thanks Julia, you are both amazing instructors and they will love you in Malta! Hopefully meet you both again in the future! :)
