I just did my IDC "Christmas edition" with Marcel Van Den Berg and Julian Pico! I'm more than happy about the course provided ! They truly care about you and they're always here to help. They even stay late after class to help you out. It is more than just a course, the people you meet there become your family for a while and it really is an amazing experience. We switched last minute from the pool area to the beach because the pool was rented that day. We tired to get a cover for the beach, but it was unavailable at that time. We washed the regulators carefully. Have a good day buddy :)

Marcel, love your content, but putting together a kit, on the beach, and dropping the regs on the sand after cleaning them....maybe not... :-). a Mat or Towel under the kit might have been a better way to present this, if you only had a sandy beach to put your kit together on. Merci
Good tip! It was a last minute change as we could't film at the pool where it was planned and we had no access to a towel or mat at that time. No sand entered the first stage and no sand can enter the hose when you don't press the purge button. Only some sand can enter in the mouth piece of the second stage that can easily be washed out in water. Especially after putting pressure on the regulator, no sand can ever enter. But you are right it would have looked better on a towel. Thanks for the tip! :)
Hi Yosanant, Thank you for your question. I have changed it that way because of my BCD. The hoses didn't move that easy the normal configuration. It doesn't matter as First Stages work both ways up. You just change the hoses to the other side. At the moment I have it back to the original configuration as I am using a new BCD with extra space :)
We actually switched location from the pool area to the beach last minute. I preferred having a mat on the sand so the regulators would not touch the sand, but it was unavailable. We rinsed the regulator carefully after the set up in the water. And yes I agree try to use a blanket or mat when you are setting up on the beach :)
Hi Patrick, We had to temporarily removed it, we are trying to get a new soundtrack in, but the TY editor is having a bit of issues with this as it is such a long video. We are working on it :)
Why is it, for a free flow regulator, that we don't teach students to simply grab the octo, and use that to surface? If we have free flowing regulator, and a perfectly good one on our side, why risk a new student (OW Diver) and potentially create a panic situation. This is the way it was taught to me, but in hindsight, should probably be amended in the PADI handbooks
Hi Patrick, I believe the skill is taught that in case you don't have access to your alternate air source or when your second stage and your alternate air source free flow together you can still use this technique to safely surface.

Marcel, love your content, but putting together a kit, on the beach, and dropping the regs on the sand after cleaning them....maybe not... :-). a Mat or Towel under the kit might have been a better way to present this, if you only had a sandy beach to put your kit together on. Merci
Good tip! It was a last minute change as we could't film at the pool where it was planned and we had no access to a towel or mat at that time. No sand entered the first stage and no sand can enter the hose when you don't press the purge button. Only some sand can enter in the mouth piece of the second stage that can easily be washed out in water.
Especially after putting pressure on the regulator, no sand can ever enter. But you are right it would have looked better on a towel. Thanks for the tip! :)
3.45 Why you put 1st stage upside down?
Hi Yosanant, Thank you for your question. I have changed it that way because of my BCD. The hoses didn't move that easy the normal configuration. It doesn't matter as First Stages work both ways up. You just change the hoses to the other side. At the moment I have it back to the original configuration as I am using a new BCD with extra space :)

Good demonstration overall, just did'nt like to see the octo in the sand.
We actually switched location from the pool area to the beach last minute. I preferred having a mat on the sand so the regulators would not touch the sand, but it was unavailable. We rinsed the regulator carefully after the set up in the water. And yes I agree try to use a blanket or mat when you are setting up on the beach :)

We had to temporarily removed it, we are trying to get a new soundtrack in, but the TY editor is having a bit of issues with this as it is such a long video.

No need for sound(if you are a DM candidate);
that proves the power of the clip.
Why is it, for a free flow regulator, that we don't teach students to simply grab the octo, and use that to surface? If we have free flowing regulator, and a perfectly good one on our side, why risk a new student (OW Diver) and potentially create a panic situation. This is the way it was taught to me, but in hindsight, should probably be amended in the PADI handbooks
Hi Patrick, I believe the skill is taught that in case you don't have access to your alternate air source or when your second stage and your alternate air source free flow together you can still use this technique to safely surface.
