To me this composition show his awesome combination of imagination and music knowledge. The fact that he made a rock band
perform this on stage LIVE was perhaps a even more impressive achievement. I wonder how he did that?
I love coming back to this video!
Impressive!
Excellent! Cheers.
This is badass!!! I played this in college on an undergraduate recital. Very difficult. You made it look so easy!!
thanks for blending together the two craziest things I love!
Holy bajeezes, how did I never think of the notion of an arrangement for tabla!? That would be fantastic!
And even more uncle Frank developed a keen ear for Indian Carnatic music since the early '70s (or maybe before) and you can hear them through various Percussion/Drums pieces by Ruth Underwood, Chester Thompson, Ralph Humphries, Terry Bozzio and Vinnie Colaiuta
Indeed. I see a clear mixture of western classical music and knowledge of carnatic music in his rhytms. He created his own voice. Few people can do that. But he did
This is excellent, very accurate.
If you don't mind me pointing out, you rushed some phrases of bar 15 ever so slightly (the 3rd note should land directly on beat 2, beat 3 should fall *just* after the 2nd note in the septuplet, and the 3rd note of the straight 16th note figure should fall directly on beat 4). I recently did a video on my methodology of approaching nested tuplets, and in the process learned that bar intensely as my primary example (and still made a couple of minor hiccups!) so since then I've been particularly interested in how other people approach that specific figure.
Every other rhythm is spot on to my ear, so this is a minor point
Thanx for your feedback - I never analyzed it that way - and you are right (made it so much easy 4 me)
Sorry for my pedantry by the way! Great piece, lots of ways to approach it, and I like your use of konnakol to parse the subdivisions. What I find really hard about bar 15 is the septuplet that splits over the 3rd beat, I still perform that largely by feel (embarassingly - I should just practice more!)
You we correct - and it actually made it very easy 4 me to sing now. I just sumperimposed the whole bar in the video -
come'on man....
Incredible!
This is gold

Amazing!
I can't explain how much I like tuplets!
Then check out my nested tuplets konnakol video :-)
Love it!!
Very impressive! pretty avant garde
thats just Zappa in a nutshell ;-)
This is fucking awesome
You are a unit m8
legendary
I can tell you how he had Wackerman, bozzio and a list of other amazing drummers! this is so hard to figure out by the way
I know ;-)
No wonder uncle Frank advised Terry Bozzio to master it on drum set till he gets it right....rest is the history
cool stuff!!!!
Ok, now do that with Uncle Meat Variations. ;) ;)
Thats like doing a instrumental guitar version of Slim shady.
Your sheet music is in the wrong key
