They always struggle to beat good teams. It’s easy to say we win with game with a striker but the biggest issue is the fact that spurs seem to have all the chances but the first chance the opposition gets they always seem to concede. Is it that every team turns into the most clinical team against them?.. or is there a problem with the way they’re setting up the defense?
Personally I thought that was one of our better performances since the start of last season. We didn't get the result we deserved but that is football - sometimes the better team doesn't win the game. You need a bit of luck in most sports and yesterday we didn't get it, there is no need to panic and overreact to an unfortunate result.
Considering how much turnover Spurs have experienced over the last 12months and the amount of young players that are being introduced to the squad/ team, it should tell you this is NOT a short-term thing. Spurs are in the best place we've been in for a long time.. with a club and coaching team that both appear fully aligned, both in strategy and identity, with an extremely talented group of players who want to help the club develop. Progress is a process # COYS
While the defence played well they made two game defining errors in not tracking players and poor recovery. We can’t hide from that and it cost us the match.
Some observations: 1. Maddison is a problem because he thinks he is the best free kick/corner taker but in reality Son should be taking them. 2. Romero is a problem. He is a fantastic CB for any team but his lack of pace means it isnt ideal for angeball. Everything else abt Romero is perfect for Ange. 3. We need a back up for VDV, that is, a pacey CB. Highline means pace is important. Newcastles 2nd goal may have been prevented with a faster CB 4. Kulu cant play on wing as he doesnt have the pace 5. I dont understand why Ange doesnt have his mids/forwards/wingers rotate positions in game to give the opposition diff looks. 6. Ange made his subs too late. Angeball requires fresh legs as the run up and down pitch so much as all players are 2 way players. Spurs were dominating but regardless he should have made changes earlier to keep legs fresh
Basic principles of playing a high line- 1) stay as high as possible while there is pressure on the ball. 2) if a opposition player escapes the press, the defence must drop off together and quickly. (Otherwise, with no pressure on the ball, it’s all too easy to play a ball in behind in acres of space) The goal was conceded because- A) the press failed B) the line didn’t drop quickly enough
Agreed, but also, the way Maddison pressed on Joelinton wasn't good he had no one of his teammates behind him and was running in too fast. Everyone is blaming the high line, but the secondary goal is bad pressing from the middle.
The performance should have led to Newcastle being on the end of a defeat the size they have given us lately. A ruthless striker on the day would have caused havoc. I did like the team better when Brennan came on and Deko played as no 8 lI like him madders in midfield together esp against low block teams
I worry that we need a few more smarter players (footie iq) who understand the mechanics and momentum of how to create a goal and who can execute that final pass and/or shot. Maybe it’s just, like you say, that Solanke is missing. We shall see after the international break.
I think an interesting one I hear few people talk about is Spurs not going back for Antonio Nusa. This falls into line with players who really want to choose Spurs. That is fair and strong but sometimes you can’t be so stubborn with such talented young players that are being advised on moves. Nusa to Leipzig has led to the dominoes falling with Odobert to Spurs and Nunes to Brentford. Leipzig have ended up with Nusa (fee 25% less than Brentford), Geertruida and Vermeeren (loan, obligation to buy) BTW. Dragusin, Nusa and Bergvall would have been an incredible January window. I doubt it will be replicated but it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Solanke played against Leicester and it was a carbon copy of how we played against Newcastle. So please lets not kid ourselves that its just that we were missing him or Richie
That was solanke's first game with the team and he played most of it having been clonked on the ankle let's let him play a couple of games before we write him off maybe....
Pfft. "This is a team game - but on the evidence of 1 match - quality players don't need any practice nor game time with said team before they perform at the highest level." Sounds like you've also got beef with Mbappe. You should go play for Real Madrid and show him how it's done - yo.
Seems like we need to have 4 or 5 strikers instead of just a couple, to cover for the constant injuries we seem to have at the position. We need to eliminate the defensive mistakes, these happen far too often and are not the mark of a top 4 club.
Dragusin has gone well when starting, he was great against City last season, and again on weekend - what happens with more time, honestly think Dragusin in the middle and VDV wide left instead if Udogie would be our best backline, Porro wide right.
What are you talking about? What other day? We have the same situation in every game. Creating tons of half chances but only score 1 goal. And then concede because of the high line...
@@iEditStuf yeah, Ange's gamble sometimes work out. But let's not forget that we were gifted the 2nd and 3rd goal by Pickford. If Everton were still in the game - not sure what would have happened in the 2nd half...
@@bohdan2084 but you said it’s the same in every game but our last game that was “the other day” literally wasn’t the same case so I don’t understand why you’re saying “what other day?”
@@iEditStuf Everton was an exception, same as Villa last season. In most games we have 90% of possession, create lots of half chances but only manage to score 1 or 2 goals. And concede 1 or 2 because of the high line. That's why I see no reason to say "was it any other day we would have scored a lot of goals". No, statistically, we wouldn't.
For me we played really well. If we had our st . We would of won it very easily. We was all over them . I can't wait for us to have them back and start cooking. Great stream so far coys
@jacklegros6614 last season Solanke scored 3/1 G/A against Newcastle in 3 games played. With all the chances Spurs had - I'd suggest a pretty decent chance he would have contributed towards at least 1 goal. Cheers.

It'll be great when we get the whole package. With kane, we played without the ball, sat deep, stole games. Without kane, we have all the ball, dominate, cant score. Im sure it'll work out, the football is getting better, though is a touch one dimensional in that, we get wide, cut back or cross.
Pedro stopping tracking his man at the edge of the box, allowing him to run free to get the second goal is absolutely shocking. If he's going to play for us , he needs to play is a winger , he can't defend
I say it was Romero he lost his man which causes Dragusin to leave his man who Porro just couldn’t catch. I’d give Romero the blame for both goals if he’d ran back instead of walking he would’ve be in position to stop that, the way it turned out he wasn’t even in the box.

Maybe it’s cause solanke hasn’t had a chance to make an impact yet but to me they look exactly the same as they did for the second half of last season. Ange ball is definitely miles better than conte but it’s horseshoe football 85% of the time. And they always look like they’ll concede even against mid table teams.
Players such as Romeo, Bent Udogie should use this international break n focus on match sharpness / fitness.. also I don’t think he trust the youngster against a physical tough team
Anybody found malingering in the sick room for the next match needs dragging out and told to get on the pitch . Maybe it's all too comfortable at Spurs.
Frustrating, yes. But we didn’t create a lot of missed good chances, just blocked shots (good defending) and wayward passes. I remain much more concerned about the way we did not defend their goals. We cannot succeed if this continues (+ Vardy’s😡)
Ange’s football style is much more aggressive compared to former coaches like Conte, Mourinho, and Nuno, making it enjoyable to watch. However, football is not just about enjoyment; it also requires results. If he doesn’t adjust his game management, it will be difficult for him to maintain his position as the team’s coach in the future.
There are some serious questions need answering. I please can we just stop playing Son down the middle. We are where we are, but lets not kid ourselves. Our season could be over by October if something mentally and I mean mentally does not change. We basically have the same squad we had last season aside of a few children ready to gain some experience. Most had a decent pre season. The deadwood has gone, yet here we are making the same mistakes and not having a plan to overcome the problems. Sometimes you need to close the shop and wait for the door to blow open. If arse and coventry does not go well and a slow start in Europe. I'd hate to think how the fans will be then. You would hope that Ricci is back by then. I'm not holding out for Solanke.
Destroyed everywhere except scoreboard. Easily fixed with a fit striker. No need for fans to hit panic button.
100% correct , Spurs fans always get over their skis
They give up at least 2 goals guaranteed without VdV. He should be kept in a cryo chamber between games.
