    Keith, in 1999-2003 I used an Epson 600, 840, 10xx inkjet (A4. A3). I used them 20 hours a day. Washed, dried the "diapers" and reset the chip. It was worn out to the point that the head guide was worn out. The saddest thing is that these photographs could not be preserved for long. Epson glossy paper absorbed all the debris from the atmosphere and it turned yellow in 1 year, faded in the open air in 2-3 months, and faded in the sun in a week. These photographs cannot be pasted on; they immediately faded to red. Therefore, I stopped studying this market and buying their products in 2003. The most amazing thing is that today I have several photographs left, those that were in the album and they were never opened. What is the current situation with the safety of modern prints on these printers? Preservation in the open air, in the sun, with a damp sticker in an album? (Google transletter)

      The new pigment inks are far better than the old dyes - new paper coatings are better too.
      That said, if you want to put a print in the sun you need signage type media, inks and printers.

    Never tried the cassette tray on the p5000 as a little nervous to try so will give it go will only cost me a sheet of paper cheers nice one.

      It works well - but do make sure the paper is OK with it. Normally I keep it with A3 plain paper in it for when I need 'bigger printing'
      I actually used the P5000 with A4 paper in it to print off the proof copy of my Tilt/Shift book...

      mm that's interesting did you turn the sheets and do both sides ? also may I ask which paper did you use as would be nice to print my small flight sim manuals. Thanks @@KeithCooper

      Turning the paper - not a chance for that many sheets ;-)
      It was really just a good quality plain paper for a final read through and checking the captions etc. all matched up. I find that much easier to do with printed copy than on a screen.
      I wrote the text and provided the diagrams, photos and captions for the book, but it was professionally laid out by the publisher.

    Keith, I'm considering purchasing a P5370, which I would like to use to create 8x10-inch prints on Epson's Metallic Photo Paper Luster using 8.5x11-inch cut sheets. In your experience, will using the paper cassette cause the prints to develop a curl, or do they remain flat? Lastly, thank you for all of your wonderful videos.

      Thanks.
      Whilst I don't know that particular paper, I found that basic photo papers worked quite well in the P5000 [and P5300].

    Hey Keith, good vid mate. Have you ever had it tell you there's a paper jam when there it not? Whenever I try the cassette on My P5070 if tells me there's a paper jam and to take the back panel off to clear it. I of course do and there is nothing ever there. I've looked all over it and cant see any issues. Printer works perfectly fine on all other paper feeds so it has me stumped. Not much info from Epson on the topic.

      I've not seen this with the P5000 or P5300 [same mechanicals] - except when I tried putting some already used plain paper in the tray. The tray feed can be fooled by sheets not separating properly, being just a bit too stiff or having damaged corners [which caused the misfeed I noticed]
      Can be triggered by dust on the sensors

    Thanks for doing this test. It looks like a very capable upgrade to my 4880. I was also looking at the P900 with roll paper adapter - that set is almost $1500 US, only about $600 less than the 5370. The advantages of the P5370 over the P900 w/ adapter (better paper handling, larger cartridges, more robust) seem worth more than the $600 to me, but YMMV. A lot less weight, though (35 lbs vs 117 lbs!). I've never had luck with sheet paper handling on the 4880, and I'd like to do some double-sided photo printing, which wouldn't at all be possible on the 4880. Maybe on the 5370?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  8 месяцев назад

      Glad it was of interest.
      Paper handling with the P5300 is a different league to the P900 ;-)
      I'll need to find some DS paper, but I suspect it will need manual feeding.

      I did the math and the P5370 prints are far less expensive in terms of ink, 0.48 dollars per ML vs 1.5196 for the P900. The Image Prograf is 0.675 I normalized per number of INKs. On the Other hand, the P900 is far less noisy, can print small sizes, and it seems it's faster (by specs in B&H) than this Frankenstein-like contraption. Pricewise the P900 does more for less. Now if you print in volume, or many large prints the superior paper handling and the lower per print costs will make the P5370 in my opinion.

      Thanks - there are still many reasons for picking the 700/900 - this one is the nicest to use for bigger prints ad definitely for roll paper
      I'll definitely be doing a video on which to pick@@jaimeduncan6167

    Hello Keith, what is the minimum table surface on which the printer stands? So it's not the footprint - the printer can protrude a bit over the table - but the area that the printer needs to stand securely?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  5 месяцев назад

      I'd estimate [I can't lift it] 44cm front back for the feet underneath - 50 cm left-right
      Quite a bit of overhang all round

    • @KeithCooper

      It is the same chassis as the P5000 - I've never seen the issue in any printing, but that's only in my testing.

    Still watching your videos on the P5300 Keith. A bit confused about the supported cut sheet size for borderless printing. The manual says (p65) borderless printing is supported for sheets of the following sizes A4, A3, Super A3, SuperW A3, but you said borderless isn't possible with sheets. Can you please clarify? It's pretty important for me :) Thanks!

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      Sheet is NOT supported at all for full borderless [4 edges]
      The manual is not as clear as it could be - full borderless is only supported for roll paper through cutting.
      Sheet 'borderless' is just borderless to either side, you will still get borders at the top and bottom of a sheet, if it's a supported size.
      This is exactly the same as with the P5000 and other larger printers.
      I think I'll be mentioning this is one of the first paragraphs of the written review, for just this reason ;-)
      NO BORDERLESS PRINTING ON SHEETS...

    • @JamieKnop
      @JamieKnop 6 месяцев назад

      @@KeithCooper thanks for confirming. I think they need to update the manual as this is pretty misleading. If it says borderless, people are going to expect no border 😥

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, it is easy not to spot the distinction between 4 and 2 side 'borderless'.
      I had to check this several times just to make sure.

    So the only Rear Feed on the P5300 is the Roll Feed. For all pre-cut sheets, they need to go into the front-end paper cassette? Will that handle 17x25" sheets by Red River? Those are 3" longer than the standard 17x22."

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  8 месяцев назад +2

      No - there is also the top feed and straight through print path
      This video is about using the paper cassette, since it is not a feature seen on other high end printers.

    • @MrX-zz2vk
      @MrX-zz2vk 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@KeithCooperOkay, good to know it has a top feed as well.
      Since Red River offers that 17x25" paper for 16x24" type prints, I'm less reliant on roll paper for 17" width. However, it's when I would want the panoramic prints like the one you demonstrated a few days ago is when quality roll paper printers really come into play, and the P900 is somewhat less than ideal for that.
      I've made many 16x24(ish) prints with the P900, but have shied away from Panos so far. If the 5370 had been available here in the US back in 2021 instead of making us all wait 3 more years, I would've happily snatched one up.
      And I don't even know if Epson has a booth at CES 2024 or not; I haven't seen any mention of it. So when exactly the printer will be available stateside, idk. Sometime in the next month or 2 maybe.

      I just created a17x25 custom page size for a video on B&W printing with a 'fine art' paper which works very well.
      Gives a lot more flexibility in paper choices - this one use Hahnemuhle 'Natural Line' Hemp/Cotton 17" roll
      I will be covering sheet as well... @@MrX-zz2vk

    Keith,
    Daft question but here we go.
    I know you have perhaps more papers about the place than the average user,
    Do you mark your boxes to indicate which side up in the box is the print surface?
    I seem to remember in the early days of the channel that you got caught out by a box of paper.
    Perhaps when using the paper cassette, (Print side down). A good old fashioned marker pen on the box might save a bit of confusion or the waste of an expensive sheet of paper.
    Just a rambling thought that may help someone .. Dave B (Manila) with nothing better to do at the moment ;)

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  8 месяцев назад +1

      In general boxes will say something like 'printing side up' or the like - or it's quite obvious.
      However, some papers do look very similar - that's where I do the 'damp finger test' - the printable side is slightly tacky
