    I don‘t need many of the things I want. ;-)
    Currently I still operate an 4900, a predecessor of the 5300.
    That being said, as an engineer I would prefer the 5300 for its solid design.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  13 дней назад

      The P5000 [which I've still got here] is closer to the 4900 - it takes the spectroproofer unit for example
      Of course, the P5300 does finally get rid of the black ink swap!
      The P5300 is every bit as solid as the 4900 - you would find a lot of commonality in the construction. I like needing a strong desk to put them on ;-)

    I got the P900 rather than a larger unit because I'm not in production--I make one print at-a-time and wouldn't want anything larger/heavier. I rarely print "large" (>A3/13x19), so the P700 would work, but even though the P900's a bit pricier, the ink's much cheaper by volume, so in the long run, the P900's actually more economical (plus there's that A2/17x22 capability). Museum-quality results and very easy to use. If I need to up the volume (or size), I'll probably farm it out rather than turn our home into a print shop (my wife wouldn't be too keen on that).

      I bought the P700 about 18 months ago and like it plenty, however I suffer from buyer's remorse for not buying the P900. I was surprised to see your comment about rarely printing larger than 13 X 19. I think I would print many 17 X ?? pictures. Keith posed the question of what do you do with your pictures? So far I have given some away, but mostly they are piling up over there on a shelf. I am a mere hobbyist, but still would like to see my handiwork in larger sizes. If I were to trade up, I would likely develop buyer's remorse for spending so much dough.

    • @ddsdss256
      @ddsdss256 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@johnpollock6996 As appealing as larger prints are in theory, in actuality, relatively few people have the wall space and many prints simply work better in smaller sizes. It's a more "intimate" experience studying a smaller print (possibly in book form) rather than standing in front of a poster-sized print in a gallery or museum (or in a home, where lighting may not be ideal). It all depends on the image, and certainly some subjects work better larger, but IMO, those are in the minority (at least for the work I do). There is no one-size-fits-all solution here, but so far, I've printed more smaller than larger. That may change, but the main reason I got the P900 was for print , and it's the same in that regard as the P700 and the units Keith mentions here.

    Bang on, Keith. I certainly don’t “need” an A2 size printer but I have indeed wanted one for a while and a P900 is now on its way to me. Maybe it’s fortunate that I don’t have the physical space for the 5370 because I would otherwise be tempted. Ha. Thanks for your insight.

    We are looking to add this printer as a cohort machine to our Canon Pro 1000 and Pro100 when the Pro 100 finally fills the purge tank. Thanks to your reviews and Jose Rodriguez Photo Printing Techie we are aware of the differences. Epson has yet to showcase this machine on the Canadian website.

    Hi Keith, withthe P5370, i see that it is 30 inches deep. Does the table/bench need to be at least 30 inches deep or could a bit of overhang (my desk is 24inches deep) be ok or what that be unstable.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 месяца назад +1

      There is quite a bit of overhang at the back - the desk my P5000 is on is 24" deep, BUT it's 7" away from the wall. For front overhang beyond the 1" I've got, you would need to make some form of platform.
      A 24" x 31" sheet of marine ply or the like [~10mm] would suffice.

    Keith, been watcing most of your videos for some times now and I still can't make up my mind to purchase, ( preferably laserjet ) a colour printer that is suitable for a design that has ( more or less ), hairline details.
    Will prefer on the laserjet side - either A4 or A3 size, and for home use. I'm contemplating on starting a small scale T-shirt printing enterprise.

    What do I Need versus what do I Want? The answer to Both is a Really High Quality printer. What I don't need is a high volume printer. Just speaking for my own particular needs and not of anyone else.
    Overall, i love my P900, and it's sufficient for my needs most of the time. I just wish it had a better(optional) roll paper system, including a good, internal cutting blade. Not that I want or need to use roll paper very often, but a higher end roll paper loading/feeding & cutting system would be appreciated for when I do.
    About printing greeting & note cards, I've done it in low volume with desktop printers using Letter size paper making sure the image & text is laid out correctly and then folding the paper in half making a decent size card.
    For high volume card printing I've just turned that task over to a local printing company.

    • @MrX-zz2vk
      @MrX-zz2vk 7 месяцев назад

      I'd also add that for card printing, there are inkjet paper brands like Avery(found in most office supply stores)and Red River that make factory perforated, easily folding paper specifically designed & produced for greeting card use with desktop printers.

      @KeithCooper  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes - I've lots of card printing tests in the reviews for smaller printers - In the UK I've used a range of pre-folded media from Paper Spectrum, Fotospeed and Permajet

    I print for my clients and I'm considering changing my old 4800. But it happens to me that some clients sometimes ask for a larger format, in A1 but 90% of the time it's A2 maximum. I'm afraid that a printer like a 7500 is not suitable for printing a lot of A4 or A3 sheets, the 7500 is not practical for that, I am sometimes asked for 50 30x45 prints but the 7500 does not have a tray , a 5300 is more suitable for sheetfed production, isn't it? dilemma between 5300 and 7500 (Yes I know you can print A4 on a roll but I find that it is more beautiful to print on a sheet).

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 месяца назад

      One minor thing to note is that the P5000/5300 do not have an output tray, so printing a lot of sheets will need someone tending it every so often.
      I agree with you about flatness and A4 sheets - but printing off a roll does give you the option of borderless [or small borders]
      Remember the longer trailing edge margin for sheets

    What is the print speed difference between the P900 and P5370? I've been very happy with the speed but not the weight of my Epson 4900. I purchased a P900 but find that it is much slower printing compared with the 4900. I was thinking of upgrading to the P5370 but I'm curious if it will print as fast as the 4900 or as slow as the P900.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      Faster - but I don't have comparative measurements. It's not as fast as the P5000, but that has a bigger print head

    • @MichaelBrownArtist
      @MichaelBrownArtist 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks @@KeithCooper . The P900 is about 2.5x slower than my 4900. I was hoping the new P5370 would be as fast as the 4900.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      I believe the slightly lower speed of the 5300 vs 5000 comes about because the 5300 print head is the same one as the P900. The printer chassis may be faster, but the ink still has to get through the head and on to the paper. If you can find specs for the two [no of nozzles] you'll see.

    • @MichaelBrownArtist
      @MichaelBrownArtist 6 месяцев назад

      @@KeithCooper , When I compared the P900 to the 4900 I noticed that the P900 has resolutions that jump from 1440 to 5760, but no option for 2880. The 4900 has the 2880 resolution option which is in between. I think if the P900 had 2880, I could have lived with the print speeds. I'm hoping the P5370 has a 2880x1440 mode. I'll have to go to a local dealer to run some tests. Thanks for your videos and comments Keith. I love my 4900, but I also would like to get the newer heads with the 1.5 picoliter drops. (4900's smallest drop is 3.5 picoliter)

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      There is no 2880 mode
      The modes are
      720x720
      1440x720
      1440 x 1440
      5760 x 1440
      5760 x 5760
      However, there is rather more to it than just the numbers - you cannot truly compare like with like if you just compare P5000 and P5300 numbers - actual testing is the only way to see for sure if the differences truly matter@@MichaelBrownArtist

Latest (2) prints I'm getting smudged areas with a matt magenta sheen to them where is should be the darkest black, lighter shades appear ok with the same texture and sheen as the colour parts.
