Here, Judy Garland is fully sober. Her performance shows all her presence of no abuse of alcohol or pills. Whe n she was on, she was on...bless her and that gift that seems to have worn her out and lost a freshness as this wonderful clip of her is captured as that consummate and seasoned pro. What a life.
The iconic Garland face: that particular kind of arched brow Smoky eye and lip seem to have been immortalised here in front of that pharaonic lightbulb monogram backdrop - the cocktail is heady and mesmerising. The way she walks towards the camera, into the audience chewing up the scenery is signature Garland and so charismatic. It's all of this that creates the magic she was renowned for. Entertainment is a form of spell-casting for this reason. While watching, you are lost, hypnotised. When you awake from it, you feel reborn. So there is something if not spiritual then certainly religious about the whole experience of "Judy".
The Greatest voice that God ever bestowed upon a person. Garland’s Voice is strong, clear and lives each word as she takes her audience on the ride of their life! Her stage presence is unparalleled and owns the stage. No matter who shared the stage with Judy Garland, it was as if Judy was on stage alone. The sheer power of this Legend’s stage presence, eclipsed all other talent. The World’s Greatest Entertainer is the perfect description of Judy Garland.
I couldn't agree with you more and on top of that this woman, Judy had attempted suicide over 20 times in a lifetime, making her a danger to herself. I will always ask myself the question why wasn't the fame enough, I guess like all the rest of us we really do need to have a personal love and she never got one.💔 However when she performed you never knew about her troubles cuz she never revealed it. That was the true magic of her performances, hurting so badly inside and never showing it in any way.🌈😭🌈
I was born in the wrong time. I live for this type of skill and power, and I’ll never see her like in my lifetime; I imagine no one will. We can, at least, enjoy these treasures!
PEOPLE, IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT JUDY, STOP WITH THE TRAGEDY THING. SHE HATED BEING CALLED A TRAGEDY OR A.TRAGIC FIGURE. SO IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS LADY, STOP WITH THE TRAGIC FIGURE STUFF.
IF ALL OF YOU WHO COMMENT, AND YOU REALLY LOVE JUDY, STOP REFERRING TO HER AS TRAGIC. SHE ABSOLUTELY HATED BEING CALLED TRAGIC. WITH EVERYTHING THAT SHE GAVE US, THAT'S THE LEAST WE COULD GIVE HER. I KNOW SOME OF YOU LOVE WALLOWING IN JUDY'S HARDSHIPS, THE MORE HEARTBREAKING, THE MORE EXCITING FOR SOME OF YOU. BUT, PLEASE STOP WITH THE TRAGIC TALK.
Terry, I think some are genuinely heartbroken to think of her problems, and it might be better to remind them that she had more joy in her life than 90% of the people on earth ever have, in spite of troubles like everyone has. To know that the best entertainment artists in the world all agreed that SHE was the best, to experience the adoration of hundreds of audiences, to have experienced Carnegie Hall-the greatest night in entertainment history, not to mention the joy her children brought her, and the love of friends!!
I think I figured it out. Somewhere during "Rock-a-bye" I realized that I was holding my breath...I stopped breathing for a while! I think they call it "awestruck"--like when you behold greatness in a work of art. What a sublime work of art was this unforgettable lady.
Yes, listening to Judy I find myself ever so slightly on edge, as if anticipating something. It's that quality of her singing that makes it feel like she is singing only to you and directly from her soul to yours. It puts you in a state of anticipatory excitement, as if to receive some profound message, which undoubtedly you do.
The concert segment at the end is closest thing we will get to seeing her at Carnegie Hall. I know there is the silent footage of clips, but how I wish CH had been filmed.
@@lolapavon4780 I read somewhere (several years ago) that Capitol decided to record the concert because she owed them an album on her contract, and they weren't sure she could fulfill that requirement. And it turned out to be (more than likely) the most successful album Capitol ever had. God Bless Judy. She was the greatest.
Judy left us 51 years ago, and she continues to gain more and more fans with each passing day. WHY? Because she emotionally touches people, plus she's funny and real. And gives her audiences everything she's got. AND SHAKES THE HANDS OF HER AUDIENCE, UNLIKE ANYONE I'VE EVER SEEN. HER AUDIENCES LOVE HER AND SHE LOVES THEM. She truly is someone very special. Besides she's the greatest talent and personality that ever lived.
The greatest interpretive singer that ever was; great understanding of both melody & lyric... not to mention a huge explosive vocal range... only a few others come close
Her husband at the time, though, said she'd been off the pills for over a year, after having gotten out of the hospital in early 1960. He said troubles started again when she lost self-confidence working with the director of "A Child is Waiting", later in the year.
Hey cunha, Stick it in your ear. Did you like ELVIS OR MICHAEL? TWO OF THE BIGGEST DRUG ADDICTS THAT EVER EXISTED. AND THEY DID IT TO THEMSELVES. JUDY WAS STARTED ON DRUGS BY M.G.M. "KEEP HER IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA". THEY GOT HER ADDICTED TO DRUGS. PEOPLE WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF HER.
Hey Terry. You are so right on. How anyone could carry on her life as well as Judy did is beyond human. The tabloids sensationalized everything anyway. Judy could literally give you a spiritual moment when she sang..OMGOSH ❣️❣️❣️❣️What an experience🙏🏼
Also, just for your 411, her mother started her about 8 on uppers when she was in Vaudeville friends say. She would say. “Got to get those girls up and going!”
Without a doubt Judy stands among the best to ever perform especially in a live setting. Her ability to connect with her audiences is unmatched. On top of this, she takes this Just In Time through so many key changes, it boggles the mind. And it is seamlessly executed. I am so glad that irreplaceable talent like this was captured for us today.
Sure there are great voices aside from her's but no one ...NO ONE can give life and soul to a song the way this woman did. One of America's greatest treasures.
Her singing voice is the sound the heart would make if it could make a sound . With or without your permission she reminds you that you are human with wounds as well as blessings to e grateful for . She’s pure love who found life hard to navigate with the users including her mother constantly enslaving her , taking the profits x.
I absolutely love every song I’ve ever heard Judy sing. Every-time I hear DO IT AGAIN. I think any guy who heard her sing that song would fall madly in love with her.
At every stage of her career she was wonderful. I can tell her voice from the age of 13 until her last song and when she sang them. There was never another like. The entire package was so incredible. Will always adore her.
What she does here simply canNOT be "learned". Sure, she was born to a "show biz" family, bred in vaudeville, and reared at MGM -but she shows a gift that is off the chain. The showmanship is all her. No one comes close.
By the way not all Garland fans are homosexual, Some of us are heterosexual, and believe that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God himself no one chooses there sexual attraction it just happens I for one am a a. This is on par with Judy's historic Carnegie Hall concert (that was not filmed). No disrespect (love her), but Liza never ever came close to this kind of insane talent.
I love watching these mini-concerts compiled here on RUclips. Listening to Judy and watching her gives me great joy. Thanks Buzz and God bless you Judy Garland, you wonderful, mesmerizing Black Irish Witch weaving your magical spell over my heart.

She looks absolutely fantastic on this CBS television special. It was the network associated with great music. Also around this time on CBS, the Young People's Concerts were televised from Lincoln Center with Leonard Bernstein conducting 53 programs. Later in the mid 1960s there were the Barbra Streisand specials.
Magnificent. Thanks Buzz. I read about this in “Heartbreaker” and the difficulty in getting the charts together while they were confiscated by the IRS. (Sounds a bit like the drum chart for The Man That Got Away was still missing in action!).
Just as she sings toward the end “the losing dice were tossed She looks in the camera like I’m gonna let you have it and she just slowly build and build to a climax and you know she’s going there and yet she surpasses it that Scarlet
Just heard her story about she, Noel Coward and others listening to Marlene Dietrich's recording of her concerts, which was nothing but applause. "Not one NOTE of music", said Garland. Unparalleled performer, and a hell of a sense of humor.

She could sell a song like no other. Had the privilege of seeing her in concert in Detroit sooo very long ago.
What did they expect from this woman?
Was perfection not enough?
She was in really strong voice here!! I adore her now and forever.

How she could hide the tragedy of her life while performing is nothing short of brilliant
TJ Hughes Because she was a superb actress. And she loved her audience.
She didn’t hide them , performing lifted her from them , helped her look down on them not up to seeing it as insurmountable

Judy at the top of her voice. Right after Carnegie Hall. Rich, throaty voice. She had it all. To see her in person was pure magic!
Judy came a long way since "The wizard of Oz" WOW! Judy looked beautiful and healthier in the early 60s. OUR DOROTHY GALE! ❤️🔥

A 4’11” super powerhouse of pure explosive talent!
Performers like Garland will never pass as long as we have film clips
She was born in 22 so she was only 40 here. So young. Now that I'm old, she seems like such a kid.
Thanks so much, ... this from the 1962 special where In totally fell in love with her,
Meeting her in 1967 was the highlight of my life.
How LUCKY U where to meet or see Judy, WoW!!!!
Robert Henley wow can u tell us more

You can’t teach stage presence like that. She instinctively knew how to capture and mesmerize. There was no one like her and no one since.
These 15 minute concertsof Judy Garland are just amazing! There is no one like her and never will be again!

Nearly 60 years later, Judy finds a way to sing directly to me through my little RUclips screen. Extraordinary, what a gift!
Shes an everlasting superstar that WILL last forever, unlike all these new crap singers that think they are superstars!
who ever colorized this did an amazing job
Showmanship, a voice that shouldn’t have even been possible, and the rest was magic. Had to be.
No singer will ever be able to sell a song like Judy Garland. Thanks Buzz you brought so joy in the COVID-19 days.
