It really is amazing that this wonderful singer who died fifty years ago still speaks to us so directly. My friends think because I'm a gay dude that why I must like her. Lol. Nope. That singular voice!! That epic fat voice that contains multitudes. There is simply nothing else like it and nothing that even approaches it since.
Just when you thought you understood a song, Judy takes you to new depths! There was something so simple and regal in her interpretation of “once in a lifetime”! You were a giant Judy! She exudes warmth!
What is sad to me is that people didn't realize the treasure that Judy was! People in the business were so quick to just discard such a rare talent. But, she did know she was loved by her fans! Vic was always fantastic. They should both rest in peace!
She was immensely talented but also an immense drug addict ...people knew she was unique and very very special...but showbusiness is also a business and when you have to wait two hours for someone to arrive on stage if at all or got a set all ready with professionals and the star doesn't show up people tend to become a bit uncomfortable...she got a lot of opportunities in life and messed up a great deal of them..and still she was able to become legendary because of her great talent....the " poor Judy the victim" refrain I'm over now...she made her own bed and slept in it....
It's great to see Judy in color and in top form on The Hollywood Palace. She sang this on her TV show and it was great, too. Judy and producer Bill Colleran performed a minor miracle on her TV show, the last episodes were classy and Judy was superb.
She wasn't called "THE LEGEND" for nothing. It's been said that after the demise of her TV series in 1964 that Judy Garland began her decline but Listen to the end of "Once in a lifetime" when she's "great things!" She belts those words out of the park; You can hear her open full throttle.. She has and always given me chills each time I hear her sing! Too bad that we don't have any real singers like her anymore. There's a reason why she is still gaining a fan base almost 44 yrs after her passing
Judy looks so amazing! I have goosebumps...gorgeous clip. Thanks for sharing. If only she wasn't plagued by financial woes and drug addiction. Judy lives!
she looks so happy and full of life here..shame her life was going all so horribly wrong off stage...true legend of entertainment and as for Mr Damone..that voice wow !
Judy in top form when many erroneously claimed in total stupidity she wasn't...clearly looking wonderful, great duet with Vic Damone sublime & "The Palace" medley a stunning tour-de-force, with more support Judy would have gone on as she should have many more years...shame to those who kicked her down. Love & miss you Judy, RIP great wondrous one...
I have been on a Judy Garland kick lately, watching anything I can with her in it. This and the the clips of her with Mickey Rooney on her show, are probably some of the most beautiful clips I have seen. She looks healthy and radiant, and while there is some fatigue in her voice, she is really ON!!! This is how this wonderful and superbly talent woman should be remembered... Thanks for posting this!!!!
JUDY GARLAND! A superb lady and talent! How wonderful it is to see this video of her! I particularly love her duet of Maria with Vick Damone. That was simply beautiful! May God bless Judy Garland and take care of her!!
No doubt about Judy's greatness. I lived through these years as a child and very young adult - I recall that Judy and her contemporary performers were all over TV, appearing on each other's shows and singing the American songbook, to the point that as wonderful as it was, it became repetitive. It also happened in parallel with the British invasion, which made these performers look...old, though the rock n roll survivors of that age are still out there on stage at 80+. And Judy and the rest were 'there', until they weren't, and by the time people started to miss them, they were gone, as was the variety TV format.
Still in fabulous voice here!!!! The "medley".. what can one say? The talent that came from her wasn't just from her vocal chords, but, from deep down inside her, which poured out with such force and energy that she probably cracked the plaster that night!
Wow what a voice! I wish there was someone to make her happy in life and teach her life is more beautiful then pills. I hope she is more happier now though :)
The duet is stunning. To hear it live, and in colour, is incredible. The version on Judy's television series was pre-recorded and in black and white. Thanks for this, Bob.
wow! 1965! in great form-musically and visually. she's a little plump but that's better that ghostly thin! and when she is a little weightier her voice seems more full and lush and healthy! i don't know if that's just me.
Joseph Taylor it’s not just you. I’ve never had a voice teacher tell me to lose weight. They all want me to gain. No big voice should be in too thin of a body.
@@tjj5337she had many peaks. Young Judy.. Wizard of Oz. Young Adult Judy.. probably Meet Me In St Louis. Mature Judy.. A Star is Born and Carnegie Hall Concert. Unfortunately this performance we are watching was during a downward spiral at the end of her life. That being said, sometimes she’d still pull out that old magic out of her bag! She still had some left.. and this night was such a time! Bravo!!!
Yet another FANTASTIC performance by the legendary Judy Garland. Also-that was ANOTHER legendary singer doing a duet with Judy-the multi-talented Andy Williams!
I love her Palace medley and she acts it out so beautifully here. Watch her start "My Man" at 12.06, where she looks up in this way that breaks your heart, "I love him so," and you know its true and that she loves him against all reason. Then watch the ACTING that Barbra has go through to convey less powerfully the same emotion in "Funny Girl," and you understand the magic of Garland.
She sang with him three times on her TV series. Besides "West Side Story," they also did medleys from "Porgy and Bess" and "Kismet." They were all superb.
Several months before Judy Garland participated here, she learned that her life savings was gone. She discovered it had been stolen by her ex-husband Sid Luft along with behind-the-scenes executives David Begelman and Freddie Fields. You don’t get any hint of that tragedy when you watch this video.
SOBs Sid Luft, David Begelman, and Freddie Fields deserve to rot in hell for their respective exploitation of vulnerable singing artist legend extraordinaire, Judy Garland!
People took advantage of her since the SCUMS at MGM screwed her over with the Wizard of Oz, they used and abused her and the husband's she had used her and left her nothing. So damn sad.
Judy was a legend even while she was living and was not tragic its just the tragic things that were in her life and she made humor in all of that ! I am 65 years old and have loved Judy since 1967 but wanted to watch her TV show when I was 7 years old back then ! Had I watched it I would of been hooked on her but Dad would not let us watch her TV show had to watch Bonaza !
she was so proffesional and such a strong woman to put up with all the crap people put her through and still perform to this INCREDIBLE standard it makes you wonder what she could have achieved if she'd been given a little support from somewhere - she only scratched the surface of her amazing dramatic acting and comedy acting talents which were sepearate from the voice and yet just as big a gift she was on her own all the way through her life and in the end it was too much such a waste - she never had a chance from day one because from a kid all everyone wanted was to use her for money
judy screwd up a note, towards the end, vic gave her a weird, and you could almost feel her magical/legendary powers of "okay buster I still have two more shots of powerhouse notes, and I will be giving more than I think I can, but will find a way to do this and end this song the way I know i can" and Judy does. Something amazing always happens whenever Judy feels she misses something, something inside her wants/needs to overcompensate and really wow the audience. Judy Garland was and always will a magnificent talent that is the Gold Bar of High Standards. So musical, so brilliant, so Judy!
hi NFitalianguy !! how are you - havent seen you making comments for a while still loving Judy I see - great to see you making comments - I always read what you have to say xx
The Hollywood Palace was produced by one of Bing Crosby's companies, so if Garland was hosting the program (as she often did--in color, no less), it was with Crosby's approval. Some people in the business knew her worth and did not attempt to profit by it. I only wish that she had lived long enough and kept her health up to hear the praise she received only after her death. All the people who snubbed her in her final years put up a great show of grief at her funeral.
Hi still regard Judy Garland as one of the greatest singers of all time. No doubt she’s the top entertainer, actress and human being. Just listen to “I hear music “with Count Basie. No one has done better
He life was in decline, not her voice. Shemadeit great for us when backstage she was paining like hell. On a brighter note we do have great singers in In the style of Judy...the music business(gag) won't let them become popular. I go to broadway and downtown clubs and Harlem spots several times a month and let me tell you, music isn't dead! you gotta get out there and embrace the new Judys and Jolsons out there. If you compare everyone to Judy, you'll never love anything new thats just as good
Christine Ebersole comes to mind I'm in London and I agree - I see all the West End shows Garland was an All Time Great But Judy was so unique because of when she lived and her tragic story as well as being a bloody genius but there are still some amazing talents around now
Although this can hardly be considered her "peak" it is an amazingly controlled performance for so late in her career. She is far less frenetic and jumpy as she was through most of the TV series. The weight is up, and I can only assume her pill consumption down. She looks great. The sound is almost lush again. The pity is, she was still mostly singing her old chestnuts, straining to hit the familiar "big" notes. If she'd been picked up by another record label after Capitol dropped her, and was encouraged to try different, jazzy music and styles, it could have helped a great deal. That said, this is my favorite version of "Once in a Lifetime." Better than the rendition on the series, tho her voice was not yet as damaged.
Nope its not you, she looks and sounds great for so late in her career, although it is just 2 years after Carnegie Hall and 4 years from the end, and so much of the disintegration was during those last 4 years. Who knew she had sung from West Side Story? Imagine if she had lived to sing more of the Sondheim repetoire, she might have been amazing.
It really is amazing that this wonderful singer who died fifty years ago still speaks to us so directly. My friends think because I'm a gay dude that why I must like her. Lol. Nope. Speechless! Judy gave everything she had. No one will ever come close to equaling her talent!
Judy Garland the greatest performer of all times!
What is sad to me is that people didn't realize the treasure that Judy was! People in the business were so quick to just discard such a rare talent. But, she did know she was loved by her fans! Vic was always fantastic. They should both rest in peace!
Welcome to America, land of morons.
Just great

I love that Damone is so overwhelmed by her singing you can hear him say, "sing" during her first song. Amazing.
The "Palace" medley was beyond everything and anything! What a timeless talent! Love you, my darling Judy....
It's great to see Judy in color and in top form on The Hollywood Palace. She sang this on her TV show and it was great, too. Judy and producer Bill Colleran performed a minor miracle on her TV show, the last episodes were classy and Judy was superb.

Exactly!
And she makes the belting, look effortless!!!! My God!!!!
The respect and admiration Saxon C conveys to the legendary Judy Garland is infectious!
I forgot how beautifully Vic Damone sings! And what can you say about Judy - she is perfection.
Judy looks so amazing! I have goosebumps...gorgeous clip. Thanks for sharing. If only she wasn't plagued by financial woes and drug addiction. Judy lives!
This is what is known as entertainment, great entertainment. It is uplifting, joyous and it makes the heart smile .
That mink trimmed gown in the second set is quite simply to die for!!!!
The genius of Bricusse and Newley to write such great music and lyrics, are wonderful to hear being executed so well.
Bloody hell what a voice !!! Thrilling !!! Judy Lives On !!!

She looked radiant in color!
I love the Palace medley… she is bringing back music from the 1920s back to 1905!!!
You know Heaven's gotta have the best to sing or it won't be Heaven. What a talent, like no other.
Vic Damone not only sang but acted out his song. Judy was also superb. Great moments to remember,

Locate her duet with Vic Damone doing the Kismet medley - to me it's the peak of peaks.
@@dickwilliams6195 It is totally phenomenal one of the greatest duets ever if not the greatest, Judy kills it Vic holds his own...
I've never seen this. Absolutely beautiful.
she looks so good I wish I had the chance to see her in concert

Anybody but me wondering if the very definition of heaven includes a two hour Sammy Davis / Judy Garland concert for new arrivals?
Excellent Idea!!
That would be the summit of perfection for me.
Of all the singers who made guest appearances on her show, she and Damone together were the best.
I think she also sang so well with Jack Jones and Diahann Carroll.
She did pretty well with Streisand, too!
She was real big super star singer .
Unbelievable!
